Thanks so much for the video! At 21:20 why does the interest rate decrease? Isn’t the interest rate just the federal funds rate and therefore exogenous?
@@superorangebody no. In this version of the model used by mankiew, the interest rate is endogenous. The interest rate is not the fed funds rate or central bank's interest rate. The policy tool of the central bank in this model is money supply. The interest rate is notvdirectly controlled by the central bank. The central bank can influence the interest rate by changing money supply.
@@geostadt578 that clarifies things! Thank you!!!
Finde die drei Fehler.
I did the same thing with Korea’s data, and I got a r square of 0.17. Is it okay to get a R square as small as this in this specific analysis? Is the model still useful?
Thanks for your question. I think: In case that it is an assignment at school /university... you should point out that the R^2 is low. It is an important observation... and you get some additional points for this remark. Afterwards: Think about what went wrong: Is the relationship unstable over time or over the business cycle? Can you see outliers in your scatter plot? Can you think about other factors that influence this relationship? When you raise tehse questions... you will get extra credit!
@ thank you so much! Thanks to your advice, I could try the same analysis with more data and a few outliers removed, and got a R square of 0.51. Hope you have a nice day!

can i know where is the part 2 of this chap
Yes, it is here: th-cam.com/video/DX54GVEMED8/w-d-xo.html
You find all links and slides and Kahooot tests onmy webpage (lower part) www.wiwi.europa-uni.de/en/professuren/vwl-makrooekonomie/lehre/index.html#05-ima-tutorials-makrooekonomie-151253575

First of all, thanks for the good video. Can you recommend any other literature that deals with the freemium model or the two-sided market model mathematically at a not too high level (similar level as in the video)? (I have to write a bachelor thesis about one of these)
You have to cite Osterwalder, Alexander; Pigneur, Yves (2010). Business Model Generation. Wiley. They cover all business model patterns in the digital era. But it is not a technical book! Just verbal
Does the time series has to be seasonal adjusted or not ?
Yes, seasonal adjusted would be good,
@@geostadt578 thx
1. If I want to run model without log, but to find output gap I am using log, then I will get output gap in log. How to get with log output gap? 2. Also my variables are in rates, so I don't want to convert to %.

Hello Professor Stadt, this is an amazing presentation that you have put together. Really simplifying the model thus educating many households of the speculation and misinformation that leads to incorrect expectations. Your time educating us is greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much suuuuper like
Jede Bank will irgendwann ihr Geld zurück.

It is standard practice to set lambda at 1600, when using quarterly data, and 100 when using annual data... Hence, once more... it depends... it depends on your data frequency... and 14,400 for monthly data.

Thank you for your explanation. Really clear. I understand the importance of lambda, but I am not sure which value to use for lambda, it seems a little discretionary. Could you elaborate on that, please? I use Eviews 12 and I have not chosen a value for lambda. I only press the filter button and magic happens hahaha. You managed to explain the magic. Thanks for your efforts.
When you have not chosen a value for lambda, EVIEWS has used the default option... Whatever that is.
It is standard practice to set lambda at 1600, when using quarterly data, and 100 when using annual data... Hence, once more... it depends... it depends on your data frequency... and 14,400 for monthly data.
