Have u lost any since u made chain link lot? I have same as u but 5 together. i do lock mine in a house @ night, i wish i didnt have to & could leave coop house door open . can u tell me if any predators have went under the fencing? my runs are completely also wrapped with smallest chicken wire top to bottom. i have 19 in my flock. its Sept 2024. ps love your flock!!Im in NC
@@zoemarialawson8943 Hi! Unfortunately I lost all my chickens. I made a video here about it: th-cam.com/video/zcYkdlCGKTU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nM_LSD3ksKkT-9eb
@@zoemarialawson8943 Raccoons were able to come in over the top and open the plastic netting.
@@jannawebbon67 oh no. the main thing do is put a panel of chain link on top not net & use hardware cloth over that & tin. A chicken tractor is too small a life. secure chain link top with the same clips that attach the panels together. Im so sorry for your loss. Get brahamas they are big for day time predators to get. Congrats on your pregnancy.
@@zoemarialawson8943 thanks! We don't have chickens or goats anymore. Hard to balance with a kid and a full time job. Just the dog and a fish tank now.

Love the native plants
I would love an update to how the goats are doing and the goat area!
I don't have the goats anymore, I wasn't able to keep up taking care of them with having a human kid and working a full time job. I rehomed the goats and gave the new owners a lot of the equipment. The goat area has been returned to grass backyard.
I totally understand. I have 4 kiddos and they take a lot of time!
Do you still have the goats?
No, unfortunately I don't have the goats anymore. I had a baby and wasn't able to keep up with taking care of the goats and my human kid. I was able to re-home them with someone who had a family farm.
The hack to attach the t post to the shed is incredibly helpful!! We will be getting Nigerian Dwarf goats decently soon and I was planning on putting the shelter at the edge of the run but was struggling to think of a way to keep the goats from trying to push past the t posts on either side. What a great idea!!
Hooray, glad that helped!!! That's all my husband's idea and execution.
Place a cover over the hay feeder or use some chicken wire and raise it so it will hold more but not allow them through the top.
What size shed did you have for them?
It was the Arrow 6-ft x 5-ft EZEE Shed Galvanized Steel Storage Shed from Lowes.

What are dimensions of the dog/ chicken run and coop?

Update about chickens being killed and lessons learned: th-cam.com/video/zcYkdlCGKTU/w-d-xo.html
Something I read about is to get the minerals up off the ground and in a sectioned feeder hanging on the fence or whatever your feeding station is because goats don’t like to have their head down to eat. They are foragers, so anything at eye level and above. Also with a sectional feeder you can put baking soda in one part, other minerals in the other parts. One other thing I read about is wood stains and paints are poisonous to goats. Hope this helps. 😊
That's a great idea! We have sold our goats for now but I hope others see this comment.
Did you end up transplanting the middle one? Sword fersn tend to have extremely deep roots and are very difficult to move after they get too big haha I was wondering if you had any luck
I haven't transplanted any of them. They seem okay for now but I might need to eventually remove one.
This is so helpful, please keep us updated on your suburban farming adventures!

Which goat breed have the mildest tasting milk?
Nice! I'm guessing Alderwood mall here in Wa.? .... Cool I'm watching your video. I was thinking about going to Left Foot farms! So I think that's a sign. Curious,What was the cost per doe? And are they ever loud at night? Thanks
The does were $350. Honestly, it took a while to get them from Left Foot Farms. The Northwest Goats has a lot of goats for sale, including registered Nigerian Dwarf Goats. facebook.com/groups/163475833805767/
Left Foot Farms does have farm stays which could be cool especially to see what their set up is and learn some goat chores. And yes, referencing Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood. I just think it's very funny to name my tiny backyard farm after a suburban mall.
They are actually quieter than our chickens were. When the goaties were very lil, they did cry quite a bit especially when they saw us through the windows. I think they get loud again when they're in heat. In general they aren't very talkative at night and bleat more during the day if they want our attention.
@@jannawebbon67 Thanks a bunch for fast reply and the FB recommendation. Looks like it will be a great source for finding 2 or 3 Doe sometime soon. Looking forward to it. Have you had any issues with them getting out of that type of fencing you put up? I wanna get prepped before I get them... Your little goaties are super cute!
@@1luckystrike I haven't had any issues with them escaping from the enclosure. When I open the gate, they always try to run out and then sometimes I have to lure them back inside with alfalfa. They like to rub their backs along some of the panels, so I'll probably reinforce those with an extra T post each. I hope you find some nice does!
How noisy are they? Do you think neighbors would complain about the noise?
They were noiser when they younger. The neighbors seem to like them. The kids like to peek over the fence and yell at them to get the goats to yell back. We've had some neighbors over to play with them.
That’s my biggest concern 😢 I’m not trying to make enemies!
Hi what size is your shed?
Here's a link to the shed we have. It was difficul to assemble, so I don't necessarily recommend this specifc one. www.lowes.com/pd/Arrow-Common-6-ft-x-5-ft-Interior-Dimensions-5-5-ft-x-4-5-ft-EZEE-Shed-Galvanized-Steel-Storage-Shed/1000246405

Just listened to a fello on u tube, talking about hay that has been sprayed with herbicides killing garden plants and bushes, even after being composted and also in form of manure. apparently clears animal in 1 to 2 days, if fed untreated untreated hay and pasture. can remain in feed and pasture up a year.
fun to see. thanks for sharing.
we love our goats ... fun all the time... new subscribers alot of times at lowes you can get free spools from wire... just cover the holes on top
Nigerian dwarf goats are the sweetest ❤️
what do the neighbors think of the goats ? do you live in the city?. I live in Washington state also, outside of the city but in city limits. we got chickens and rabbits but thought about the same type of goats you have.
They don't seem to mind (as far as I can tell). We invited the ones right next to us to come over and play with the goats and they loved it. They were louder when they were younger and are quieter now. When we first got them, kids in the neighborhood would pop their heads over the fence and go "baaaaaa!" at the goats to get them to respond.
I feel like the goats are less smelly than chickens and they don't start squawking early in the morning to be let out.
Hahahahaha.. its like having a 2 yrs toddler running around the house😃😃😃😃😃😅😅😅😅🥰🥰🥰
They definitely act like toddlers!
You look beautiful Janna 💓💕💗
I love your chicken house 🐔 🏠
Where did you get the fence panels ?
I got them from a local co-op: www.co-opsupplyinc.com/marysville/ But they're the same as these. www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/horse-fence-panel-5-ft-x-16-ft 5 foot tall, 16 feet wide, 2×4 in opening. Smaller openings since they can get caught. Once they're full sized, 4 feet might not be tall enough. We used 6 feet tall T-posts and might reinforce where they like to rub up against.
@@jannawebbon67 okay thank you !
Cute. I want goats but the only concern is how loud they might be with the neighbors in mind
Yeah, they were especially loud when they were little babies, but now they mostly only yell if they see me. Our neighbors haven't complained yet! The neighbor kids sometimes will pop their heads over the fence and yell baaa at them to get the goats to baaa back.
@@jannawebbon67 oh cool, if I end up getting goats it would be on an airbnb vacation rental property so it could be especially cool for people on vacation to let their kids go over and pet the goats
Awesome idea. My husband and I just bought our first home. The city changed said we can have up to 6 chickens. We have a backyard large shed were going to convert into there chicken coop. Then for there run we have large dog kernel with a roof. Then were going to put chicke. Wire around to protect them. ❤Excited to start having chickens

Not sure if I missed it but how tall is your fence?
5 feet! I probably didn't mention it.
@@jannawebbon67 so to confirm, they are 5ft with a 6ft T post, right? Have they tried or been able to jump over the fence or get put of their yard? Love the shed idea for a barn.
@@kellykaus4039 Yes, 5 foot fence with 6 foot t-posts. They've never gotten over the fence. They're still about half size. I'll probably need to move away chairs from the fence so they can't use those to jump over when they get bigger.
Congratulations! ☺️

I agree, a couple years ago we had an empty room that we would brood chicks in but now that's our four cats room so I've got to keep my four chicks in my room and it's not comfortable at all. I'm going to be going to Sam's and I'm gonna get some cardboard to do this. Awesome idea, thankyou
Make your own feeder with the fence panels. The 2”x4” openings keep them from pulling out too much hay. Making a trough under the feeder to catch the falling hay is also helpful. As you’ve probably discovered, once hay touches the ground it’s poisonous. Apparently. 🤷🏼♀️😂
Thanks!!! That's a great idea. We have extra bits of the 2"×4" we could do that with. That would have also prevented them from getting their heads stuck when they were smaller.
Might put chicken wire inside hay rack
Thanks for info
You have it nice living in the city. I’ve had my Nigerians I’ve had 5 of them for a year then we got babies now we have a total of 11 where did you get your babies from are they Registered and show quality. I haven’t shown mine yet. I’m new at this.
I got them from Left Foot farm. I think they're pure bred but I haven't gotten around to doing paperwork yet to get them registered. I consider them more pets and won't be showing them or building a herd while we live here. I will breed one of them at some point mostly because I want the experience and want to learn how to make my own goat cheese.
Fanrastiic idea. The only change I would do, is put a window for more daylight into the coop. I would also put a roof over the run for protection of sun and rain.
