Doesn't Christianity contain the same element of "enlightened self interest" as atheism does? What is the supposed value of moral action if it doesn't generally (on the whole) favor the interests of moral people? I understand the sentiments in the video, from a theological perspective, but it seems to fail to recognize the mechanisms at the bottom of religious morality, which are functionally the same as in a secular worldview. A universe without "cosmic purpose" is not a universe void of meaning. It's a mistake to claim that nihilism is the inevitable result of atheism when conscious experience is the foundational grounding for value, including moral value. You seem to be make a categorical error here. I'd love to chat about this more if you're up for it. cheers.
My Catholic Faith teaches me all of this. The whole Truth. Amazing! Why aren’t you Catholic?
Awesome sermon!
Yes, I agree. I know that God loves people. We are responsible to our Creator and to other people. You're right. Treat others as you would want to be treated. That's the Bible's "golden" rule. Thanks
Racially "White" long-term unemployed and isolated people get neglected by pious affluent Christians, as well. In fact, Sundays are special days of neglect. Ask those pleading for mercy who have naively entered the church building. Nobody, actually, will actually ask them.
Beautiful :)
This is such an amazing exposition of what forgiveness is . In an offence a debt is incurred and must be paid for... If you can tie up the process with how Jesus can take on and absorb the debt if we ask him... If forgiveness were up to us, it would take years, but knowing Christ is paramount in helping. Bring it back to Christ Pastor Jason. Thanks.
Thank you pastor Jason. I greatly appreciate these teachings you give, they're really helpful , and must be followed as such.
Thanks Jason, great message.
The gospels changed with the passing of time. The woman caught in adultery is not in the oldest manuscripts.
I don't need superstition to know morals and behave like the social primate I am
This is a great short!
The Messiah Hello Jesus is the Messiah The Son of God The Son of David The Son of man The man God has chosen to be his anointed king The man God will judge the world through The man God raised from the dead Jesus has a God There is no triune god in scripture Jesus said the Father is the only true God! Thank you for your message of encouragement. Please pray for me. My life living with lupus and heart disease has it’s ups and downs. I’m in a lot of pain swollen joints, fevers out of nowhere and fatigue are just a few, because of my condition I declined the vaccine, and was fired over my decision. Since than I’ve been struggling to provide for myself and my two autistic children. Every month is a struggle. My husband passed away three years ago, so I’m all alone. I have no family nor friends. Both of my sons are non verbal so as a mommy things can be a little more challenging. My situation already has me down, and depressed. Every month I feel like we are facing eviction. Because each much I’m having such a hard time coming up with my rent. I’m in constant fear we are going to end up on the streets. Because every month is a struggle. I’m so embarrassed because of my situation. I have no family nor friends to help me, I have been mocked and laughed at over my circumstances, but I have nothing but Faith that God will provide. Keep Faith in Him. Please pray for us durning this time. Thank you.
Hi Miles and Nutty Squirrel, In response to your comments--That is correct. Josephus was not an exact contemporary of Jesus as we was likely born a few years after the crucifixion, perhaps in 37 AD. Nevertheless, he grew up in Palestine as the early Christian movement began to grow and certainly would have known people personally who had heard and seen Jesus during his earthly life. In a previous video, Jason discussed how the Roman historians, Suetonius and Tacitus, also likely referred to Jesus in their writings. Neither possessed a vested interest in Christianity, but both confirmed the existence of Jesus despite the negative perception of the early Christian movement within Roman society. Moreover, Tacitus provides further evidence that Jesus was crucified under Pontus Pilate and that Jesus gained an even great following throughout the Mediterranean world after his death. This is strong corroborative evidence for many of the central claims of Christianity coming from outside of the Bible. Finally, one could also read the letter of the Roman Governor Pliny the Younger to Emperor Trajan written around 111-113 AD which establishes several important aspects of early Christianity. We may make this the subject of another video.
Hi your video is really helpful to me. Thanks.
We are so glad!
@@CentralChurchNYC hope to watch more videos and get information from you. thanks.
@@patlynyanda4271 We just posted another video yesterday, "Can we trust the Gospels?" We hope it is helpful to you!
@@CentralChurchNYC Thanks. I'll view it.
Question please. According to Matthew 27, after Jesus was crucified and resurrected, _"many"_ who were dead came back to life. The Bible says these people came out of their graves and interacted with the general population. *Are there any sources outside the Bible from that time period which confirms this mass resurrection?* Thanks.
Are there some other contemporary accounts of Jesus in addition to the one by Josephus?
From what I understand, meaning I could be wrong, but Josephus *did not* live in the same time period as Jesus. Josephus was born after Jesus was executed so he could not have been an eye witness.
Jesus is a fictional character.
Curious to know why you think that. Care to talk about?
@@somechap _"Curious to know why you think that."_ According to the Bible, a star appeared in the sky leading to the birthplace of the prophesied messiah; Jesus was recognized at birth as the prophesied messiah; A "multitude" of angels came down from heaven and told "everyone" that god was born and "everyone heard it"; Distinguished foreigners (maji) traveled to bear the infant god gifts, guided by a star; King Herod killed all the male infants in the region in order to eliminate the baby god; Jesus traveled the region for thirty years; his fame “went throughout all Syria” and he and his entourage were followed by “great multitudes”; Jesus performed 36 miracles, including calming a storm, walking on water and through walls, and raising three people from the dead; Whichever city Jesus went to, everyone who touched his clothes were healed, including the blind and the paralyzed; He was tried by the Sanhedrin High Court, the High Priest, Roman governor Pontius Pilate, and King Herod Antipas; Jesus had a very public execution from which he later became undead and his corpse disappeared from a secured tomb; After Jesus became undead, he made 12 appearances to more than 500 persons; After his resurrection, all of the graves opened and the corpses rose out and walked into town and "appeared to many". Yet, there was no contemporaneous memorialization and/or corroboration of any of that, in any way. In the entire first century Jesus is not mentioned by a single historian, religion scholar, politician, philosopher, or poet. His name never occurs in a single inscription, carving, sculpture or monument, and it is never found in a single piece of private correspondence or official record. The only Bible author who claimed to have met Jesus described him only as a bright light. None of the Gospel writers were witnesses to Jesus. Jesus himself left no archaeological evidence of any kind, such as artifacts, tombs, dwellings, works of carpentry, or self-written manuscripts. Wouldn't you think if a baby was recognized as God at birth, and met dignitaries, and this God was walking around town for thirty years, performing 36 miracles and raising the dead, and was publicly executed and then his body disappeared from a secure tomb, and then the graves opened and the corpses rose out and walked into town, and the sun went dark for three hours, that someone at the time would have noticed and memorialized it in some way?
@@somechap Why do you believe Jesus existed?
@@EvilXtianity Thats just an assertion.
@@Mike00513 Provide evidence Jesus existed.
I wrote you a short greeting some years ago, from the little city of Malmö in southern Sweden, where I live. I´m still watching sermons and other stuff from your church., that´s been to a great blessing. At that time you said that your wife had roots in Sweden. I have a little question about a thing that I wrote to relatives in Australia (an aunt of my wife and her husband). My wife and I had about 46 years together. My wife Liisa died three months ago and during her last three months in life we came closer than ever and together with our two kids, Josefin, 38 and Timo, 41, and a grandson, Alve, 10, we had many beautiful moments together, both before her death and after. She died at home closed to me. .She had the very best treatment you can think of until her last breath, Of course there were a lot of other friends involved during this time of saying goodbye to a very much loved person. Before I write a part of my letter (to her relatives in Australia) I want to say that I´v been listening a lot to Tom Wrights teaching and preaching, that I love to take to my heart. This is what I wrote:" 2021 is never gone. A new year is here, 2022. I think that the past is never gone, life is more like knit together, what was, what is and what to come, like a story, hopefully a lovestory." What do you say of this way of thinking? Next part: "I¨v notised that Liisas life has left tracks, not only memories in my mind, but rather like seeds planted by her, seeds of love and care, seeds that still are growing, not in my life only. Liisa has been so good to us. When we think of her, we are greatful and even proud. She didn´t bring her love away, no, it´s still within us, a love that is stronger than death." I¨ve been thinking a lot about our way of welcoming one and other, how important it is with a face smiling at you when you enter a new situation or room, or even a screen on your computer. Your face is really a welcoming one. Bless you for that My third question is more like a fantasy about what kind of welcoming Liisa got the moment after she left me. I wrote like this to Liisas aunt: "I was thinking about the way of welcoming Liisa got after leaving me. In my fantasy she was met by smiling and well known faces. ´Only God knows´, is a beautiful song by Brian Wilson in The Beachboys´ What do you think, are we waiting for our faces until the day of resurrection? I know it´s a completely crazy question, but anyhow, I give it to you Jason. Take care and God bless you Jason and the people around you. Greetings Torbjörn Widell +46734323284 t.widell@gmail.com
