I attempt to capture vehicles being floored, good old buses being withdrawn soon, or ones that sound unusual as a result of being worn out. Sometimes I succeed.

Mostly a pretty standard run on a clean, fresh B8RLE at dusk on the last 91 of the day. There is one bit - from 3:56 - where there is a sudden cut to us driving down an unlit country lane with the saloon lights switched off for better visibility!

Former E96 getting a good workout heading down the Tyne Valley. Good axles on this, which combined with a heavy-footed driver and working kickdown made for a very fun journey! I've noticed a lot of Croydon's 300 series DWs have developed noisy Voith boxes lately. This one may be pretty slow, but at least it sounds good! That's the most I've heard out of those Oxford Scanias. I'm sensing "dedicated footwork." I feel like you'd need a driver like this to get that much rpm out of them. I could feel the bus wanting to give up - slightly reminiscent of RATP's Euro5 YT59s. Good capture, though; at least we know these can do something interesting.
Nice one but wdym in the description when u say its gearbox doesn't know what it's doing? It's shifted at the right times in this video. Streetlites don't perform any different to ur usual diesel bus so idk why the spotlight is constantly on them in this community for the most clapped buses

That sounds like a sports bus what the hell, especially the turbo. Reminds me of the 09regs of stagecoachs. To think this was working London is amazing and sad to know it’s far away from London too

Interesting to see older B9s Voith boxed running in their fleet, but newer models with the facelift got sold off well before. Makes me interested to know what’s up with the oldies
Only 12 older ones (841-850 and 905/6) are still with Lothian. The only reason these were kept is because 841-850 were refurbished to high spec coach interiors to be used on private hires and things like that (now used on Lothian country) and 905/6 were kept as they were used as tour buses on the 3 bridges tour but Lothian stopped running that and they are now used as university student shuttle buses
Ok so let me explain. The 2014-Mid 2016 version of E20D Voith Euro 6 chassis has a slight different gearbox map to the mid 2016-present (2024 at the time of making this comment) so the lets refer to 2014-mid 2016 as type A and Mid 2016-present as type B so with automatic gearboxes like this bus has they have whats called a Control unit which is basically a computer which tells the gear selector when to shift and when the torque convertor needs to lock or unlock. And the control unit gets its brains from lines of code (usually referred to as mapping) and also sensors and wiring. So with voiths right u may of heard of this feature called sensotop which is a system in the gearbox computer that allows for later shifts and earlier downshifts uphills which both type A and type B have, right. so lets talk about how they behave when they downshift, so whenever type B and type A downshift the gearbox's computer has a delay to the shift timing for around a quick few seconds then the delay goes away. hence why whenever these downshift u notice the engine revs high then after the next shift it goes back to normal gradually 0:10 ok so now this is the main difference between Type A and Type B. So when sensotop aint in action or downshifting and the driver has just started accelerating from a standstill Type A's Gear upshift timing is SLIGHTLY later than Type B's And for whatever reason Type A's tend to downshift more frequently on flat roads than the type B's

Someone might have found the ‘Shift Programme Switch’ and selected mode II. That’s the wonderful wake up switch which overrides the computer set shift programme and allows for more revs in each gear than normal. It’s not quite “kickdown” and can be annoying sometimes when trying to drive gently, the gearbox still hangs on to lower gears longer than you’d like or you have gear hunting between 5th and 6th when trying to maintain around 40mph. Usually up shifts at 2000rpm in each gear at full throttle with mode II selected. Definitely makes them accelerate a lot better. Get friendly with the a depot engineer and have them all switched 🤣
Yep - this does behave differently to how these did new, when they had kickdown switches. Got to say, I do enjoy them like this! plus I can think of one garage where that last sentence is happening right now lol

@@gloriouswater538 Is the setup on those B9's the same as Lothian's or? Makes me wonder what setup 1151 has then. 1001-1049 setup is noticeably slightly different to 1141-1153
@@b9tltransportvids There definitely aren't any 1151s in the BX batch that I know of! The powermode ones like 414 or 421 feel pretty much identical to your LX11s, but there's also a good amount that don't rev as high, yet seem to be even quicker, like WVN49.

The video quality is better than before.
They get this slow because the engine computer is monitoring exhaust gas and if it’s not right then the engine will be limp until the computer is happy with what’s coming out the tail tipe. That’s when the bus gets going. The turbo is fine, the engine probably needs a set of injectors and a good service.
Now ex stagecoach 16969 came in and took this B7s reg , where could this be gone now 3 years later..?

I recommend DW494 at EC. Has a working kickdown and all the drivers i’ve had on it made good use of it
Quite a few of those DWs at EC are really good, I’ve had some very good runs myself but I’m shocked that this one is kickdown enabled
