FINNISH DEMON (2024) | Sauna Body Horror Short Film
🌲 FINNISH DEMON (2024) - A Body Horror Short Film from the Heart of Finnish Mythology
Deep in the ancient forests of Finland, where sacred steam rises from traditional smoke saunas and primordial spirits lurk in the shadows, a supernatural folk horror tale unfolds in the winter of 1642. FINNISH DEMON explores the terrifying transformation of Einar, a mysterious sauna keeper whose dark connection to Hiisi, an ancient Finnish demon spirit, unleashes a nightmare upon an isolated village.
In Finnish mythology, Hiisi is one of the most feared forest spirits-a nature demon whose influence spans the wild places of Finland's landscape. Originally, "hiisi" referred to sacred sites where the veil between worlds grew thin. Over time, these sites became associated with malevolent entities. This dreaded forest demon finds its perfect vessel in the most sacred of Finnish spaces-the traditional smoke sauna-where the boundary between physical and spiritual worlds dissolves in clouds of purifying steam.
The story follows Einar, the enigmatic keeper of the village sauna, whose seemingly benevolent service masks a horrifying secret. As winter tightens its grip, villagers seeking warmth and ritual purification begin to experience mysterious changes. Their life essence feeds an ancient power, awakening something that should have remained dormant in Finland's dark forests-an entity that will transform both flesh and spirit.
This experimental body horror short film was crafted entirely by Finnish filmmaker Teemu Ketola using a groundbreaking combination of artificial intelligence tools, pushing the boundaries of independent horror filmmaking while paying homage to Finland's rich mythological heritage. Every haunting shot was generated using Midjourney's advanced AI imaging technology, bringing to life the atmospheric horror of 17th-century Finland.

This unique approach to supernatural horror blends traditional Finnish folk elements with visceral body horror, creating an atmosphere of primal terror that builds to an unforgettable climax. The film’s innovative use of AI technology opens new possibilities for independent creators while maintaining the authentic essence of Finnish folklore.
The narrative delves into themes of transformation, ancient powers, and the price of tradition, centered around the sacred Finnish institution of the sauna-a place of purification that becomes a gateway to unimaginable horror. What begins as a tale of steam and cleansing descends into a nightmare of flesh and spirit, as Einar’s transformation manifests in increasingly horrifying ways. His metamorphosis from human to monster progresses through stages of body horror, culminating in a form that embodies the savage essence of Hiisi itself-a shapeshifting demon that defies natural law.
The film’s atmospheric horror is enhanced by its winter setting, where the isolation of a remote Finnish village creates the perfect backdrop for supernatural terror. The traditional smoke sauna, usually a place of healing and community, becomes a crucible of transformation. Steam takes on a life of its own, carrying whispers of ancient spirits and the screams of the damned, as the boundary between the natural and supernatural worlds dissolves.
FINNISH DEMON represents a bold step forward in experimental horror filmmaking, combining the timeless power of Finnish mythology with cutting-edge AI technology. Great job with this, it looks amazing!
Thank you very much for the feedback. It means a lot coming from you, as I know you're a true professional and I've learned a lot from you 🙏
very good job man!
Thanks man!!!
The film is interestingly done, but (personal taste of course) I find the narrator voice unpleasant to listen to, it seems too deep. But still a well done piece of work!
Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate the feedback and totally understand how you feel about the narration. I went overboard with the pitch-down and clearly I shouldn’t have done that. I’m glad that you found the film interestingly done!
No scope.....
That’s right, Häyhä didn’t use one. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hey brother what prompt are you using on midjourney, may I have an example? And how do you keep it consistent style?
Hey brother! The prompt depends a lot on the image needed. The fastest way to learn is to experiment and study different kinds of prompt format templates, in this case for Midjourney. Here's a Midjourney prompt example for you for the second image and shot of this particular film: Wide shot, Serene Finnish farmland, a man working in the fields, light snow beginning to fall, Highly detailed, Fading golden hour light, cold blue tint, Evening, 1939 pre-war Finland, Foreboding, gritty film grain, high contrast, cinematic, shot on 35mm film -quality 2 You will achieve a consistent style by using reference image or images and using the style reference function in Midjourney. For consistent character(s), use multiple reference images of the character and the character reference function in Midjourney. In post processing, adjust the colors, contrast, exposure and saturation of each clip so that they have a matching look throughout your film. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thank you again Christopher! I really appreciate all your feedback. I used Magnific in addition to Topaz to upscale the pics for this one and I hope it shows. The shots are nowhere near perfect though and there's a lot to improve, but I'm still learning, film by film :)
@@TeemuKetola Yeah, Magnific and Topaz really help bring out a bit more realism to everything - it definitely shows! You should have way more subscribers - I'd recommend running a YT promotion on your films - even a modest budget (let's say €40) would net you thousands of subscribers with high quality films such as this.
@@grindhouseglitch I'm glad you see the increase in realism. That's what I'm trying to convey. I've thought about the YT promotion. I should definitely try it. Do you have any tips on how to do it well? I think I'll try it, because I put in a lot of work to make my films to stand out but I don't get enough visibility because I haven't really promoted my films at all.
@@TeemuKetola It's fairly easy to do - you set up a payment method on your Google account (you might need to set up a Google Ads account, too - I can't remember all the steps) and in the Content section of TH-cam Studio you just hit "New Promotion" button on the upper right and follow the prompts. It will ask which countries you want to promote in - you have to manually enter them. Followers from Western countries will get you paid more when you eventually hit the Earn threshold (1000+ subscribers and 4000+ watch hours in a year) but non-Western countries are easier to get followers in - especially India - so don't forget to add some of them onto your list. You then choose your budget and save the promotion. It will go into review status and if there is nothing too extreme in the video, you will get approved and the promo will start running.
Great high definition photography! Real good. Good luck!

Gracias!
Historiallisia epätarkkuuksia tosiaan on, kuten totesit.
Yeah but today war is different and that such an high amount of kills are as to take with an pinch of salt. No daubt that Häyhä was an good marksman but he was also one very modest person as he stated that he only did what he had to. So what today infor the coming Crusade? What and whom will we go to war for? Them guys got it way simplyier into their heads as their nieghbour Stalin the Dictator invited himself over by using force.
Thank you for your deep, insightful comment and thoughts. It’s true that warfare’s nature has changed a lot since. Häyhä’s highest sniper kill count in history though is indeed a fact and an astonishing achievement nevertheless. You asked some truly thoughtful questions that I have no answers to. To kill and to be killed in war for what and whom - it’s an intriguing and very much open question and the answer is subjective for each one of us.

How many credits does it cost to generate this 3-minute video in Kling?
This is a very rough estimate but something like 5000 credits. Each image-to-video generation with Professional mode costs 35 credits and for each clip I do about 3 generations to pick the one I like. I have the highest plan they offer which gives me 8000 credits each month. I hope this helps!
