if you'd like other mind bending time travel films you might like two made in Australia, but set in the USA. "Triangle" (2009) which is a time loop horror film in a sense, and "Predestination" (2014) which is basically a really faithful adaptaion of Robert A. Heinlein's 1958 short story "-All You Zombies-"

if you want a real epic American aftermath to a nuclear war, read "A Canticle For LEibowtiz" (1959) by Walter M. Miller Junior. It basically sees a fictional nuclear war in the 1960s as like another fall of Rome, and has three parts, a dark age 600 years after the nuclear war, a renaissance age 1200 years after the nuclear war, and another atomic space age 1800 years after the nuclear war. It was considered a pulp sci-fi novel that was said to transcend the genre, and showed how our future could be much like our past. It's also set mostly in a monastary where Catholic monks preserve knowledge, like the Benedictine Monks of Monte Cassino, the oldest church in the Western World, did with the knowledge of the Ancient Greeks and Romans. It also won a Hugo Award, which is a high award in Science Fiction.

there also is a 2013/2014 film from USA called "Aftermath" which is about people attempting to survive after a nuclear war has just happened, set in America, starring Edward Furlong from Terminator 2 in one of the main lead roles.

I think we need an eco-horror film about climate change that is basically the equivalent to Threads or The War Game. Possibly based off Mark Lynas's "Six Degrees" 2008 book about abrupt climate change, where one degree of warming leads to two, three, four, five, and six degrees of warming, leading to earth becoming a lifeless rock in space.

By the way if you want to see a nuclear war story based on Australia, the country I'm from, you might want to see On The Beach (1959) a Stanley Kramer film, but I would recommend the 2000 two-part miniseries "On The Beach" which has actual Australian actors, unlike Stanley Kramer's version. Both are based on the 1957 story "On The Beach" by Nevil Shute. It depicts the aftermath of a nuclear war where Cobalt bombs are used, and a deadly radiation cloud is heading south after taking out the northern hemisphere. Basically it depicts humanity facing its own extinction.

another Russian did a similar thing. In 1992, a Russian spy satellite had apparently detected five missile launches from the US, and was given the opportunity to fire back a counter-attack. But he wondered why the US would only send five ICBMs and thought it was a computer error. He waited for seismic reports of a nuclear weapon hitting the land, and nothing like that happened. It turned out the missiles being detected were sunbeams reflected off clouds. He basically helped save the world as well.

if you'd like an idea of how New York would be nuked, try "The Divide" from 2011, starring Lauren German who was in Lucifer TV series, and Michael Biehn who was in The Terminator.

interesting in that you guys seem to come from America (USA), who used them twice on the Japanese (Hiroshima and Nagasaki), which could be considered a limited form of usable nukes in a nuclear war, only a one-sided nuclear war.
