Welcome bookish buddies!💖 I'm a literary lover and book hoarder. You'll find reviews for an eclectic array of literary genres (especially genre bending) and a gravitation towards material discussing social injustices. Beyond my love of literature is my even more fervent love for the Interview with the Vampire adaptation. So expect to see plenty of content for Anne Rice's IWTV.
Tuesday: Book tags (once a month)
Wednesday: Short Book Reviews
Saturday: Live shows for romance reading challenge (once a month)
Sunday: Spoiler Chats
IWTV content will be a scattered release
Bookshops are time machines, spaceships, story-makers, secret-keepers, dragon-tamers, dream-catchers, fact-finders, and safe places. - Jen Campbell, The Bookshop Book

SHORT BOOK REVIEW | Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop
Boy this book was a wild ride... lots of backstories and shenanigans of all types. And disturbing stuff continues (from Claudia to Gabrielle). In some ways I don't think Lestat's version of the "truth" is more truthful. Afterall, we all only see our life's events from our own perspective and subjective experiences, and Lestat hid a lot from Louis. Seems Rice is reallly approaching these stories with an existentialist perspective. I like how when the human becomes the vampire, the vampiric manifestation is still so influenced by who they were. Immortality doesn't lessen the weaknesses, but makes them worse, IMO. A lot to chew on :)
Yes! So well put. The television serries captures this as well. The fact that both Louis and Lestat are telling the same tale, but from both their own perspective, and yet both match up in a lot of ways. Lestat still did what he did, we just have an idea of the psychology/reasoning behind it. It doesn't make what he did less worse in anyway. Thank you so much for reading The Vampire Lestat, I know it's not the kind of material you usually dip into.
@@booksgurrsandpurrs Definitely is not my usual type of reading, but it's fun to change things up! Your enthusiasm sold me, and you reading it at the same time was a bonus! 😁 I gotta say, Anne Rice's writing is captivating.
gracias x dar a conocer a los que aun no han leido este gran libro bueno lo leido muchas veces y nunca me aburre

Loving the 5 purrs!
Meow!
👍👍😀
Hey lovely! I hope you're hanging in there. I'm sitting my butt down right now to do an outline for The Vamp Lestat video. If I can get my act together it should be available tomorrow.
Oh my goodness, love all the poetry! I've heard fantastic things about Natalie Diaz. And 'She had some horses' sounds absolutely amazing! 22:57 I wasn't ready lol
Hey lovely! I've always struggled with poetry, but Natalie Diaz is one of those poets that writes in an accessible way for the audience. The Halluci Nation definitely has music that I can blast while cleaning my apartment. Their music keeps me alter. 😁
Electric Powwow had a good run as an audio on tiktok--although the first result says Tribe Called Red--ahh, you explain it, I like Haluci Nation better too. 💚
I'd love to be on tik tok, but I feel like if I was nothing on my task list would get done and I procrastinate enough as it is. lol! Yeah, Haluci Nation is a great name.
@@booksgurrsandpurrs it's true.... 😝
It's giving very moody PNW Coast, wooohooo! (the video especially)
Truly! I don't want to make the segment extra long so boiling down options landed me in the PNW. lol! There's so many talented people from there.
How badass is it to have your name "+ Poetic Justice" as your band name??? And yes, love that Redbone song 🤗
I think I'm going to sneak in a read of their graphic novel this month, (like I don't have enough I'm tackling) since it's most likely going to be a quick read.
Thanks for a great review! I love that you gave this book 5 purrs, that's fantastic! I have had this book tentatively on my must get to list for a little while so now I will be sure to pick it up sooner rather than later. Thanks for that, it's wonderful to know a little more about it, it really helps. Happy reading!! 💙😃📚
Glad it was helpful! ❤
@@booksgurrsandpurrs 😃😃
Have you read one of Tommy Orange's novels or short story contributions?
I have read 2 of his novels and was so depressed. I don't think I can ever read his work again. He's such of wonderful author.
@@sueloguejohnson8929 Oof! I feel ya there. I'm trying my best to implement a routine if I can where I read a lighthearted book in between hard hitting material, because emotional spirals are no fun. What's a silly light hearted book you've enjoyed recently?
@@booksgurrsandpurrs Fashionably Dead by Robyn Peterman. It's a cozy vampire series but so funny.
Ember's roommate definitely brought comedic relief. Who was your favorite side character?
Yay!! 🤗 My favorite side character... either the best friend beader or the finance dudebro, since he reminds me of Jonah Hill's character in Don't Look Up, which I've been sneaking clips from for the past week.
@@MargaretPinard I really had flashbacks working in a corporate setting. lol!
It’s so cuuuuute😂❤
@@MargaretPinard I'm invested in the work culture. It feels so real.
I so hear you, "Life keeps lifing". Unbelievably, I haven't finished The Vampire Lestat, and I haven't ever read any of my other books on the go. I've had an impactful life event, and I don't think there will be much time or energy to read in the next few months anyway. I brought all my library books back today too. I may be able to finish Lestat, tonight, but I'm not sure. It's the one and only book I'm concentrating on. Ttyl!
@@madworld1962 Awe, take it easy lovely. I'm such a home body, but my friend dragged me out for wine at a local bar & with everything that went on this week, wine sounded good today.
New layout--fun! Angeline Boulley for fiction, for sure! And Ramona Emerson and Vanessa Lillie--excellent mysteries with Native issues woven in. <3
Thank you Margaret! I could always count on you for solid recommendations. 💖
Erin’s Historical Fiction selection is amazing
Just followed all of them...thanks!
@@TheLinguistsLibrary Thanks angel 💕
It cut off the title and author in the text can you update it
The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline ❤
Not heard of this one, sounds fascinating, definitely one that would send me down a rabbithole of looking stuff up. Don't know anything really about indegionus peopel, the English esucation system (unsurprisingly) barely touches on them. Great video, may see if i can get hold of this one
@@vens_corner Thanks! Well, same experience here under the American education system. I recently read Lies My Teacher Told Me which really outlined the outdated information in text books.
This sounds so intense, but so worthwhile. ❤ Loved your thoughtful review.
Thank you Bethannne. I always feel like I have no idea if I'm even making any sense.
@@booksgurrsandpurrs Haha, same!
I wonder if it would shed light to read some of these reservation history stories in context of other war trauma stories--since that's one of the types of trauma that it isn't usually compared to? Hmm, food for thought.
Yes, I definitely want to delve into more non-fiction regarding these subject, although historical fiction is so helpful to put it all into context and create an intimate connection with characters.
I'm digging your points about colonizing the space, as I'm reading No Logo and her first part is about no space for anything but brands--corporate takeover of our lives. Violence of another sort. :/
Yeah her book really speaks to perpetual war as a way to control and colonize space/land.
Looking forward to all these videos! I have quite a few books written by Indigenous authors, but I won't be getting to any this month unfortunately... at least I don't think so.
@@madworld1962 That's okay, I know your reading piles are sky high like mine. 😹
it's also the first day...of the rest of your life! :P
@@MargaretPinard 😹 Somehow that seems bleak.
What a lovely idea!
@@EmmaBennetAuthor Thank you! I'm cooking up more segments & hopefully I'll have one for every Friday this month.
Very nice video! Thanks so much for tagging me. I'll try to do it this month.
@@browngirlreading Oh lovely! I look forward to what you create with the tag.
Not sure if you heard of the Popol Vuh--Mayan mythology. It is also known as the “Mayan Bible,” is a foundational text of the K'iche' Maya people from what is now Guatemala. Written in the 16th century after Spanish colonization, it is a collection of myths, creation stories, and historical narratives originally passed down orally. The Popol Vuh explores the nature of existence, the origins of the world, and the genealogy of the K'iche' Maya.
@@TheLinguistsLibrary What?! Oh, I need to search for a translated copy. 💕 Thank you lovely!

❤ Thanks for watching. It was definitely a tough read, but I'm glad the author wrote it. Newell has some great interviews on podcasts.
Sounds like a difficult read but an important one x
@EmmaBennetAuthor Thanks Emma. I just started reading The Baby Plan. 💕

@EmmaBennetAuthor That he is! But I've definitely grown out of my tall guy phase. My neck was tired of looking up when talking to someone. I'm in my short king era. 😹
