Both looks nice but the right looks more natural and sharp and the other more high def smooth cartoony.

The cutscenes and the play area on the PC Engine CD should have been full screen like the Mega Drive version.

I think you've put the wrong console in the videos title

Amazing how bad the DOS version sounded with a standard MIDI output. Both MT-32 and Tandy output is supported by LOOM though, so you technically were able to have much better sound and music. I quite like the setup that LGR uses on one of his machines for example with the external MT-32 processing unit.

pc sounds way better though its possible to record it and use it with msu audio to run it on the genesis for the best of both worlds thought I think the majority of pcs didn't sound this good until later on or with a gus

I own this stunning game for PcEngine. Pce has more colours on screen but some time the screen flickers. Music-wise Sega has an arranged soundtrack (with strong drum emphasis) but it's a matter of taste. Sega has speech in the shop but way less (and worse) sfx during gameplay.

Never did beat the Genesis version of Exile, but I must admit the TG-16 CD version looks good.

I prefer the Mega Drive version for Valis III, even though they didn't know how to harness the best its sound chip could offer, the CD soundtracks could be translated elegantly, keeping the composition and overall feel. Your setup is interesting, as for "i never understood the comparisons between consoles that use emulators" comment, well, these emulators are very accurate and can indeed be used to compare between versions and consoles, now, I understand that the video output seen from a CRT is very different, but as far as games and their technicalities go, emulation is just as good. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate you setting this up and putting these consoles side by side using original hardware and a CRT, it's really good stuff.

PC Engine is still the best.

I actually had the turbo, i could only dream of the cd add on, at 400 bucks as a 13 year old. I did send away for the free promotional videotape with bloody wolf bandana!

For me at the time, this game looked and feel in both consoles next to 32 bit 2D graphics. It was even better than some like Iron Man and X0 Manowar for example.

They both look very similar and great! But the SNES version has a bit more detail, while the Genesis version has a better aspect ratio and higher resolution, so I would go for the latter.

Fun fact, the Ferrari logo is facing the same direction on the MegaDrive but turning left or right depending on what direction the car turns... So basically the PcEngine keep the same sprite and operate a simple flip between left and right and the MegaDrive has 2 different sprites for turning left and right.

Well, let's be clear that this game isn't fully optimized to take full advantage of SNES and all its specific features (far more colours, mode background layers, proper transparency, Dolby Surround sound, etc), whereas it's pretty much optimal for Genesis and using basically all its normal features as expected, so that's something to keep in mind. Also, if we're going by the standards of the time, consumers were far more likely to have better cables connected up with the SNES that allowed for both better picture and audio from the TV as default, especially in many European countries, so I'm not sure the video and audio signals represented here truly reflect that. Having said that, they're both very similar here, with the Genesis version having the extra horizontal resolution and sometimes clearer sound, while the SNES has some better colours at times (although not as noticeable on a CRT) and more realistic sounding music (especially obvious on the title screen track here). But, regardless of all of that, this game is just slightly better as a complete package on Genesis imo, which was true of many [but not all] of these Disney games that appeared on both consoles. I do think the SNES versions could have gone quite a bit further than they did in most cases though.

Looks good, but what happened with sound? Snes and sega captured with really painful static noise that I don't have on my real hardware. Maybe something with cables that you use?
