I do enjoy a look in to the past through letters and drieys thankyou for bringing them to light.
7:05 I live in Santa Ana, and am currently doing some personal research on the SAAAB, and would be happy to do a little research for you guys on this, and stop by the Santa Ana Public Library. There is also a museum in Costa Mesa, called “Hero’s Hall”, on the Orange County Fairgrounds, which is on the premises of what used to be part of the SAAAB, and dedicates the second floor of the museum (which used to be one of the barracks that cadets would sleep in), to the Air Base and it’s history. If you haven’t reached out to them, they may have more information on Bruce’s time there, and would also likely benefit from Bruce’s letters home.
I didn't know about this! Thanks for sharing! I will look into it. :)
I wished you would show all of the letter so we can read along. Thanks PS I was born in Detroit but grew up in So Calif. Many of those places you mention like San Bernardino and Lake Arrowhead were not far from where I grew up It was fun hearing you read your grandpa stories
You can read along. Go to www.lowellmuseum.org/1942.html From there you can download the letters from each episode. Glad you enjoy the podcast.
I want my email
Well, I have finished all 6 episodes in 2 days & am anxiously awaiting the next one. I’m hearing familiar names, that I didn’t really pay attention to, as a child. Now, my parents & brother are gone, so I can’t ask them to remind me of their connections! The info about Murray Lake is very interesting, as is each podcast. Thanks for sharing! Will we be hearing from Mike or Kevin?
very interesting! thank you!
I appreciated this. Thank you.
It was Dan Degraw (not McGraw). I think the worm farm was up North Washington, east of the cemetery, operated by Claude and Gladys Thorne, maybe . Claude also sold and delivered fuel oil to homes for furnaces, in a small tanker truck. I think there was at least one Showboat rainout in the 1950s. Happened mid-show, heavy show. Moved to high school gym. Eventually went back to boat stage about midnight, most of crowd had gone home. There might have been another time when s rained out show was held on Sunday night, without some acts, and much reduced crowd
Jack Thorne was Gladys Thorne's husband, living up North Washington east of the cemetery. Jack died in 1971, age 52. Claude Thorne was Jack Thorne's father.
Fun fact, thats my great great uncle 👍👍
That was a great presentation that night. You all are doing fantastic work at the Lowell Historical Society. Cities 10 times the size of Lowell could learn a lot from your track record. Thanks!
This is so interesting, thank you for sharing the content!
Fantastic! I have been a customer from pretty much the beginning. Cheryl is a great lady! Great products, fast service and reasonable pricing. You can't ask for much more than that! Look forward to see what the future brings.
I have just learned that Milton is my half uncle! So proud to know this.
What an amazing piece of history! So many of Norton's stories have added another layer of depth to what I know of the Lowell area. Growing up, spent many a day tromping through the woods, lowlands, and high ridges along the Grand River, and the Flat! Most of the time my brother and I carried a small lever rifle that belonged to my uncle Ron. The stories add so much color to some of the stories we grew up hearing, as many of our family were born in or near Lowell in the 1870s and 1880s. Lowell is oftentimes overlooked for what it has contributed to this portion of Michigan. The rivers, railroads, geography - glad there was foresight enough to produce such a recording - thank you for sharing this!
You might want to change the title of the video. Don Gerard.
Adie was my preschool teacher. So many fond memories of her house!
