Yes, you could leave the wires black, but why not go the next step and paint them so they really match our a string of C9 Christmas lights. For this build I'm using plastic safe green spray paint. This part of the build requires 12 pieces of foam pipe wrap. 100 four inch zip ties. 1 can of dark green spray paint that is safe for plastic. And about an hour of time.

Storing thousands of feet of extension cords and not tangling them can be tricky. I have found connecting them end to end and coiling them into a tote is the best method to keep them from tangling.

One of the final tasks of the tear down is to remove the last Christmas light controllers.

This is going to give me a sore back. Each year I have to wrap up thousands of feet of extension cords. It's a hard job, but has to be done.
