Why I don't explain the Bible

I retell Bible stories, but I hate explaining them. Why? Because the Bible has all the answers, and I do not. You should never look to me as an authority on God's word, but I encourage you to read the Bible for yourself! Read it with your friends. Read it all the time. Thanks for sharing. Trusting the Bible to explain itself always increases my faith.
That's such a good point that our faith can grow when we trust the Bible to have all the answers. Thanks for sharing!
One thing I see this passage teaching us about God is that he is not interested in dictatorships or handing out power and authority. Instead of rewarding the tough, authoritative people, God rewards those who are humble and who care for others. And as I'm reminded of this, I see that I need to seek to serve those around me. What are you learning from this story?
Wow, I just found a gem with this channel! My husband and I disciple people through sharing stories and asking questions, it's so great to see the stuff we do on TH-cam! Keep it up, and God bless!
That's so cool that you disciple people through stories and questions! Thanks for sharing! Do you use the Discovery Bible Study method? Or what method do you use for your discipleship?
Lol so before seeing your channel i got recommended a "why i left Christianity" video , i immediately clicked "not interested" because i have been without God and life without him is so stupid i would never go back , and after that video, your video showed up and watching your first couple of videos i see christ in you, the way you talk and how you see things , as christians we are supposed to bring a piece of heaven down to earth in how we approach life and others and i see that in you , so im subbing, stay doing the awesome Lord's work and be encouraged and blessed.
Thanks for watching and subscribing! And thank you for your encouraging words!

At first the story of the workers who all get paid the same sounds unfair. But then thinking about it, it's incredibly generous and gives hope that the land owner will also treat the hard workers fairly in the future, it shows the land owner cares about everyone.
That's such a good point! Thanks for sharing! Yeah, he loves everyone, and it's never too late to accept his love.
This story reminds me that it doesn't take much to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. It's not that entering heaven has a price tag or is expensive, but that entering heaven simply takes everything we have. Rich people enter heaven by giving up control over every aspect of their lives, and poor people enter heaven by giving up control of every aspect of their lives. And in the end, it doesn't matter how much we have given. If we have given everything we have, we all receive the same reward. I'd love to hear what you are learning! Post below so we can all be encouraged!
One thing I learn from this story is that marriage is very important to God, and it's important for people to stay married if at all possible. (What I'm learning is not a general judgement for anyone's specific situation. I realize there are many people in difficult marriages, and I hope those people will seek God, read the Bible, talk to pastors, and talk to counselors to determine the best course of action. I pray for reconciliation for those people.) And also, that God is gracious and kind. In the story, God gave allowances for divorce because the people had hard hearts. He doesn't trap us in something against our will even if that thing is best for our flourishing. He gives us freedom and space to either choose the things that are best for us or to choose something else. What do you learn from this story?
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching!
I notice a couple things in this story: 1. God is super powerful. It's clear that King Hezekiah did absolutely nothing to defend his nation. But in the end, the Assyrian army went home with much smaller numbers. 🤯🤯 2. The Assyrian god did not protect his king. The king was killed in the very place the Assyrian god should have protected him--the temple--but the Assyrian god was unable to rescue his faithful follower even there. To me, these things show the importance of following the correct God. One has power and love for his people, and the other one does nothing at all. It's a good reminder to me to trust in God alone and not to trust in time, money, intelligence, security, comfort, etc.
It is always pleasant to see your videos. Thanks for sharing. God bless you.
Thank you for watching, and may God bless you! What do you feel this story teaches about God?
God bless you. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching! Did anything stick out to you in this story as far as what it teaches about God or humanity?
I think this story is super interesting. The part that especially sticks out to me is when Jesus tells Peter that he doesn't need to pay the taxes as a duty or to follow a rule, but he needs to pay taxes so as not to offend the priests. I think this shows that we have freedom in Christ to do many things, but just because we CAN do things doesn't mean we SHOULD. We need to carefully consider our freedom and how our actions affect others. When we act, will it strengthen our relationships with those around us? Or will it damage them? I'll be continuing to think about this and how it applies to my life. What are you learning from this story?
Glad to see you again tell us another Bible story. Thank you.

Very Nice Video
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
For me, this story is such a good reminder that there are greater things than earthly prosperity or abundance. We all have an eternal soul, and it is more important to care for the parts of us that will last forever than to focus on gaining a comfortable life during our few short years. It's a story that reminds me to evaluate my life to see what I am seeking. Am I truly seeking God and his Kingdom in everything I do? Or am I trying to look out for myself?
Amen.

God bless you.
God bless you! As you watch this video and read the passage for yourself, what do you find it teaches about God or about humanity?
Ok so Jesus is an acronym most religious words are acronyms Jesus actually means justice executive senate under star. After the Israelites were kicked out of Africa they wanted a new system of government so they created the three arms of government and the separation of powers if you live in a western country you probably have this system of government operating your country right now so the three arms of the government is obviously the judiciary the executive and the senate and it was under star because the Israelites what had nothing to do with the celestial gods of the Egyptian Empire which had ruled for thousands of years now clearly you know this story is Jesus and it went on to become the New testament and later was made into a religion in 79 AD by the Roman Empire.
Very interesting. It sounds like you don't believe there was a historical Jesus and that the Bible is not true. With that in mind, I'm curious to hear your thoughts: what if this story were historical, would anything change in your life if you knew this story was from God? If not, no worries at all. I would just like to invite you into a discussion about this passage if you are interested in that.
Michael Heiser has an interesting take on this passage.
I can't say I've heard his thoughts. But I'm interested in hearing what you think about this passage. As you hear the story, and as you go back and read it for yourself, what does it teach you about God and about humanity? Do you feel God prompting you to change anything in light of this story?
@@biblestorieswithbeth The Lord prompted me to change things in 2018 when he opened my spiritual eyes and began to lead me to things he wanted me to see. It changed my entire understanding of the world we live in. One thing was that there are always many different levels of understanding to just about everything Jesus did. When he made his statement about building his church I believe it was both about the faith of his deciples and a reference to where he was when he said it. Mt Hermon. Literally at the perceived gates of hell in Jewish thinking. Next his statement about the gates of hell not prevailing was a notice to the powers and principalities that he would break down their strongholds and there was nothing they could do about it. Also that as Christians we are not meant to merely hold the line but by the power of Christ and keys that he took back we are meant to trample all the gates of hell upon the earth and take back the dominion that given to Adam. That’s the shortest answer I can give but there is much more.
Thank you for sharing. These are such great insights. I especially like your point that we are meant to take back the dominion of earth. It's a good reminder to me that we are here for the greater flourishing of all creation. Jesus taught us the best way to live, and we are to follow his example in that.
I thought only youtubers share "shocking truths" ...
You're right, lots of TH-camrs do share shocking truths. And I've found as I've done these videos that many of the things Jesus said are radical and shocking. He shares a completely different way of life. His was is full of love and the best thing for human flourishing.
Bring it, for His name...creative....but give more insight, please, next vid
Thanks so much for watching and for your feedback. I'm glad you liked the video! My next several videos are already filmed and edited, but I will be thinking about creative ways to share my personal insights while still leaving room for the Holy Spirit to teach each person what he has for them. His insights are always much better than mine, so I encourage you to read the story for yourself and with friends and to ask each other: What does this story teach about God? What does this story teach us about humanity? and If you believed this story were true, how would you change?
God bless you for sharing the Bible.
Thank you for watching! God bless you!
Hopefully fingers crossed🤞God will bless me.
The cool thing about God is that he has told us exactly what it takes to receive his blessing. He has revealed himself and his requirements in the Bible. This video explains what it takes to get to heaven: th-cam.com/users/shortsERphBToWxBs You can also read it for yourself in Romans 10:9.
He also is showing grace by telling them what to look for. The sign of Jonah is that he was in the belly of the fish 3 days and 3 nights and came out. Jesus is eluding to his death and resurrection, knowing that they do not have the eyes to truly see what’s going on.
Yes, that is such a good point! God is gracious, not only to the good or loveable people, but he's also gracious to the people almost everyone finds obnoxious, religious hypocrites. Thanks so much for sharing!
As I think about this story, I see that sometimes when God brings us deliverance, hope, peace, and life, he does it in unexpected ways. He set the people of Judah free, but he did it by shaving off their hair (wiping out their vines and turning their crops into wilderness). The way God brings deliverance may seem unfair, but in the end, he provides for us abundantly in exactly the ways we need. He levelled the vineyards, but he provided livestock to meet every need. This is a reminder for me to trust God in the good and bad things. Even when it seems like he is taking something away, I can trust it's part of the process of providing for my deepest needs.
How to go to heaven.
How to get to heaven is a great question! Thanks for asking. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 17:3 says, "Now this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." Romans 10:9 says, "if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." What do these verses teach you about how to get to heaven?
As I filmed and edited this video, I kept thinking about how Jesus handles conflict in this story. He knows the religious leaders don't really want to see a sign, but that they just want to start a fight. So, instead of giving them what they ask for, he explains why he won't respond to their request. This reminds me to constantly be in prayer as I go through life and to seek God's wisdom in conflict. If God reveals that the person is just trying to be antagonistic, I don't have to give them what they ask for, but I can respond in a different way as He leads (with love and respect).
I never realized how man people were present at this event. I've grown up hearing about the 4,000, but it never registered that the actual number of people present was the size of a small city. And Jesus healed them all day every day. And at the end of all this exhausting work, Jesus didn't think once about himself. Instead, he was concerned about the welfare of the very people who had been demanding his entire attention for the past 3 days. This discovery has helped me understand God's love in new ways.
So is the yeast representing our faith(size of the mustard seed) and flour as the Kingdom of heaven?
Thanks for your comment! It’s interesting that this passage (Matthew 13:33) doesn’t mention faith at all (though Jesus does talk in other places about faith as small as a mustard seed). Instead, Jesus is focusing on the Kingdom of Heaven. The entire chapter is a group of stories Jesus shares to explain different aspects of the Kingdom of Heaven. Because of that, I see this verse saying that the Kingdom of heaven is something that seems to start out small (like the little bit of yeast in bread), but it expands until everything else has experienced it. Not that it is small, but that the first people who heard about it were in a specific geographical place on earth, and compared to the entire population at the time, it was a small group of people. What do you learn about the Kingdom of Heaven from this verse? There can be many right answers!
@@biblestorieswithbeth you could be right. maybe He is referring to spreading of Good News to the larger group of population. Another example was the mustard seed becoming big tree( Matthew 13:31-22). I also noticed that in previous chapters he talks about Pharisees and the yeast(sin). So maybe start of a small sin can lead to larger sins. Not too sure.
Those are great observations! Yes, the Bible uses yeast to describe different things. Sometimes it's good for a small thing to spread and grow (like the Kingdom of heaven), and other times it's bad when something small spreads and grows (like sin). Thanks for sharing!
@@biblestorieswithbeth thank you for explaining the scripture. It makes more sense.
Thank you for watching!
Since I filmed this video, I have not stopped thinking about how the whole earth is full of God's glory. I learned from this story that everywhere I look, I see little glimpses of how completely amazing God is.
Once again, this story reminds me to watch my words. Not just to be cautious about the words that come out of my mouth, but to use my words as an indicator of my heart. When I notice unkind words coming from my mouth, I need to go to God and ask him to change my heart so good and uplifting words will come from my mouth.
Thanks for sharing Beth.
Thanks for watching! What does this story teach you about God or about humanity?
@@biblestorieswithbeth I gathered that the Pharisees were more concerned about outer cleanliness than what came out of their mouth's
That's a great observation! And I think we as humans can often relate to the pharisees in that way. We get distracted by outward appearances or even do our best to show off so we will be noticed and praised instead of focusing on honoring God in every aspect of our lives. When we seek to follow God in truth and humility, we don't care if people see us doing it.
As I think about this story, I'm reminded that following Jesus has ups and downs. Sometimes we obey in faith and witness miracles. And other times we foolishly act in fear or worry instead of trusting in God. But even so, Jesus is gracious to us. He may reprimand us, but he helps us and steadies us and empowers us to continue following him.
I am Swedish, Hopefully you get that which truly makes you happy forever in life.
Thank you, and the same to you! What does this story teach you about God or about humanity?
I love to think about how the disciples lives changed in an instant. The exchange is so simple. Jesus tells them to come follow him and without a word they follow. I wonder what Jon and James’s father thought about it since he was there when they left. so powerful. What it tells me about God is that he has a plan too. The moment Jesus heard the news about his cousin is when he left and fulfilled the prophecy. Almost as if he was waiting for that moment to go into action. I don’t know that for certain, but it just seemed that way. it also shows that God chooses us. And it doesn’t seem like no is even an option work for us to do.
These are great observations! The things you point out remind me how important it is to obey God even when I don't understand why he tells me to do something. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing Beth. Faith can move mountains
Thank you for watching!
Jesus miraculously provides in an act of creating fully adult fish and baked loaves of bread.
Yes. Such a good point! Thanks for sharing!
I think what it says about God is that He sometimes allows us to go through temptation on our own like Jesus had to do. But He’s always there, or angels are, waiting. And it also says somewhere in the Bible we aren’t tempted more than we can take and that blessed are those who receive reproach and discipline from God. Maybe this isn’t discipline, but God allows us to be tested, maybe to up our game and master new things. And He is patient, as it appears the same trials appear again and again until we’ve achieved some level of mastery over them. I don’t know if these trials from from God or Satan. Or maybe both like in the case of Job? I always learned that Satan rolls his eyes a lot! Haha
That is such a good point about how God is nearby while we are in temptation and that he is patient. And that in the end, trials and temptations are for our good, that we would grow and have mastery. Thank you for sharing! I have to chuckle about our comment about satan rolling his eyes. I suppose if someone else told the story, they might retell that part differently 🤣
@@biblestorieswithbeth I think if the chosen ever does casting for Satan, you should definitely try out. (:
Ha! Thanks! I think I'd have to pass on that one though.
@@biblestorieswithbeth what are your feelings on the show? I watched the first three seasons. When I was (and still am) a baby Christian and it interested me at the time. Now when I consider the show, the only place I want the biblical story to come from is from the word of God itself. Maybe, like in my case, it can spark an interest in Jesus for people to look more deeply at Him. Sort of like a spring board in the real thing. But I can definitely see how people can use it as a substitute.
This is a great question! Thanks for asking. I hope with this channel to point people to the Bible rather than being the wise or well studied person with all the answers (because I don't have all the answers and often get things wrong). So instead of directly answering with my opinion, let me share some passages to consider whenever you consume fictional content (because The Chosen is largely fictional). 1 John 4:1-3 --Does The Chosen claim that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh? Philippians 4:8 --Does The Chosen align with this list? Being fictitious, it is mostly made up, but do the themes/morals align with truth, nobility, righteousness, purity, beauty, admirability, excellence, and praiseworthiness? Galatians 1:8-9 --What gospel does The Chosen proclaim? To say it another way: Is it teaching that Jesus is the only way to be reconciled with God? Or does it promote something else? Deuteronomy 13 --Who does The Chosen suggest we worship? To say it another way: Does The Chosen point people toward God? Or does it (or the creators) encourage people to worship a different god, channel their inner whatever, or buy their "5 step plan" to eternal life? Deuteronomy 13:14 --It think it's worth highlighting this verse as it shows how we should investigate for false teachers. We should do it seriously and with a careful and thorough investigation. We need to be at peace with our fellow believers (Romans 12:18). If we don't thoroughly investigate all the facts, or if we neglect speaking directly with them, we may accidentally condemn the innocent. I hope these passages are helpful as you evaluate The Chosen or any other fictional entertainment!
As I watch this video, I'm struck by Jesus' grace and goodness. He had a real problem and wanted a real rest so he could recover from it. But even so, while he was tired, grumpy, and in deep grief, he loved everyone who came to him. He made time for them. He healed them. He fed them. It's a good reminder that I need to be ready to love everyone even when it's inconvenient.
This story reminds me how important my words are. Sometimes, I use words to make people feel good, even if I don't really mean what I say. And when I do this, I'm seeking to please people instead of seeking to please God. As I edited this video, I felt God reminding me to be careful with my words. Yes, I should speak uplifting words. But I shouldn't throw around words I don't mean in an effort to make people like me.
Haha I enjoy your retelling. John was cool and Jesus was waaaay cooler. I like this part of the story. When people speak about the trinity this is one spot they refer to. The Holy Spirit as the dove, Jesus as the son, and the Father’s voice speaking about the amazingness of His son. It also shows from the beginning of Jesus’ story that He truly is the humble servant as He is baptized by man and doesn’t put himself before or above other humans. And just after this beautiful moment He has to wonder the desert fasting and getting poked by Satan. Really shows the duality in experience of life on earth as a human.
Yes, Jesus is the coolest! You have so many good observations about this passage. I like your reminder that this passage shows Jesus's humility in that he submits to being baptized by a human. He truly comes and relates to us, becoming one of us in every way. Thanks for sharing!
I went back and read this passage, and I find it really powerful when he says to the Pharisees that they should not presume they are safe because they called themselves children of Abraham because God can take stones and form them into children of Abraham. God is saying that it is not enough to be part of the lineage anymore, but a new lineage is about to be created with a new covenant, which we eventually learn through Jesus and his blood. This passage makes me think of what I would’ve thought of John the Baptist at different points in my life. I wonder if I would’ve taken him seriously or just considered him to be off his rocker. However, it seems like from the text that people were being baptized in and we’re taking him very seriously. So maybe it says more about me or our current culture and how we see the homeless or those who have succumbed to some kind of mental instability.
I'm so glad you went back and read the passage for yourself! And that is such a good point about how lineage, heritage, or culture do not make us God's children. But we are made right with God only through Jesus, the one John is preaching about as he prepares the way. I've never considered how I would perceive John the Baptist. Would I have listened to this crazy looking man? Or would I have laughed at him? That's definitely something I'll continue processing Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for sharing this Beth. People need to realise that they are 7 day Christians not just for Sunday
That's such a good point! And a good reminder to me too. Every day should be one lived intentionally for Christ.
I often become sad about things happening in the Bible where many people have to die, or like in this with the baby boys. But also it’s prophesied that it will happen. So in a sense looking at it from our human perspective it’s so sad and awful - and in another it’s meant to be and has to be. Like Jesus suffering on the cross. It’s just interesting how we have the human and the spiritual juxtaposed! Humanity in a lot of ways hasn’t changed - there are still those who will do whatever it takes to protect their status and wealth even if it causes pain.
What you say about humanity doing whatever we can to protect status and wealth is such a good point, and such a great thing to learn about humanity from this story. By bringing that to light, you're showing me that one thing we can learn about God from this story is that he is so good and kind to love us even while we are so selfish and cruel. Even while cruel Herod reigned, God came to the earth as Jesus to make a way for us to be reconciled with Him. And in a way, we are all Herods. And still God loves and seeks us.
For much of my life I was that person who’d get excited about something, burn out quickly, and move on to the next thing. Because of my state at the time and because it was never the truth. Now I always pray that I stay grounded and sober in Jesus!
Thank you for sharing! It's great to hear how God has worked in your life.
