My wife asked me to help her find info on weightlifting for women. 5 videos in and I’m realising how much brainrot there is in this world. Positive affirmations, body positivity, gender identity, mindfulness blah blah holy shit stop talking and provide a basic routine. This toxic waffling about nothing is ruining beginner women’s mentality going into sports. Literally, I have to build her routine based on male coaches, and just look up optimal form for females to make sure she can do the movement due to hip anatomy. This is ridiculous, stop wasting my time.

Thank you for the note on smith machine squats!! I feel like no one talks about this but I started working out doing dumbbell squats because thats all my apartment gym had. I progressed to the point that I really wanted to add more weight, but had (still have) the grip strength of a baby. When i moved home during covid, i started doing smith machine squats (my dad happened to have a smith machine but no squat rack) and started with a failrly heavy weight because i had already built up some strength... after months of doing this, I finally went to a gym for the first time with my bf and really wanted to do actual barbell squats... I couldnt even do half the weight i was used to because alot of the muscles needed to stabalize my body during the movement were so incredibly weak. I was honestly shocked and didnt expect it at all... and thats why im happy and grateful you mentioned it!

A piece of advice from someone who is MGC: don’t forget that there are other councils besides ISC/panhellenic. There’s also NPHC and MGC for social Greek organizations. There are also academic and service oriented Greek organizations, so do your research!

Thank you for your interesting video - it's not just woman who get nervous in the gym. I can inetantly relate when you say you head for the treadmill for 20-30 minutes and then some abs exercises in the corner - that's my typical workout, but I love to have the confidence to use more equipment / weights!

If you feel self conscious at the gym and are comparing yourself to others, check out your city's community/rec centers! I workout exclusively at my city's rec center. It's rarely busy and it is mostly just older folks doing a morning gentle workout. And it is free!

People look at me when I'm at the gym but it's usually because I'm 40 years younger than most of them and they're surprised to see me. 😅 My area is mainly retired snowbirds and it's great.

Ever consider sprouting? It's super easy, nutritious, and cheap. I do broccoli sprouts for the anti-cancer nutrients. They don't taste great so I freeze them, blend and drink quickly. Other sprouts are good on salads and sandwiches.
