    I love TC Contenders, however a weak hammer sear spring can create a unpredictable hammer. If the gun if very dirty it can be even worse. Clean and replace spring… good to go.

    • @lookoutjj
      @lookoutjj หลายเดือนก่อน

      I should add, a hammer slipping off the hammer sear would hit the hammer block without a trigger pull.

    I’ve never handled a BFR. I’ve owned a Ruger Super Blackhawk, and I’ve handled and shot a Freedom Arms 83. The Ruger feels like a very solid gun that is tight and well put together. The Freedom Arms feels like a bank vault. The tolerances are so close, it makes the Ruger look like it’s made with giant gaps-and it is. As much as I like the Ruger, there is no comparison.

      it depends on what your goal is. hit multiple things as quick as possible? a single shot would be a poor choice. i have had plenty of repeating rifles. i choose a single shot because that's all i've needed. didnt matter if i had a magazine that held 5 or 1. single shots are often times works of art. and they are a valuable learning tool. they are also quite helpful in making a box of ammo last MUCH longer. as to what an individual chooses to use, that is their decision. i am putting out info on this on the chance someone is curious. happy shooting and stay safe!

    to be completely honest those rifle caliber pistols are just about worthless they mave some use as a back up or side arm but as primary weapon taking for taking game theyre worthless ive seen jack wagons trying to hunt with em on public land before but i never seen them actually take game with em but i always hear them fire and then here some lame excuse for missing the deer now a days i limit my hunting to solely on my fiances property we dont allow but two others to hunt the property and they dont use those goofy rifle caliber hand guns they laugh at em just as i do WILL NOT RESPOND TO COMMENTS

    • @myronman3
      @myronman3 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Completely depends on the person using them. A quick search on youtube will yield a plethora of videos with people enjoying great success with contenders and encores. I will agree that as far as handguns go, it is easier to carry a rifle than one of these. I prefer revolvers (most times) myself.

    Interesting. Iv deer hunted with one some and just got a 410 barrel for turkey season. Mine doesn't have the safty.. i never had any issues. I didn't know breaking the barrel would drop the hammer i never tried it. I always just get a firm thumb grip on the hammer and lower it. But on mine you don't actually don't have to open the gun to recock. Just pull the lever back that opens it and don't open the barrel and you can recock.

    Nice video of a great pistol. I will never forgive Smith & Wesson for destroying Thompson Center personally. There is now a company making the TC frames (recievers) and barrels and even has grips and forends again. They even have a pistol grip with a folding stock! Look up SSK-50 reciever/frame from SSKfirearms and also Haus of Arms is their dealer FWIW. There is also CVA making this same style of single shot break open pistol and rifles that is owned by the same folks as Bergara Barrels in Spain. They do not have swappable barrels like TC did. but are extremely accurate and much, much, less expensive. I have been waiting for a SSK-50 for a year but I am about to buy a couple CVA pistols for about the same cost as 1 standard TC Contender type setup from Haus of Arms. Each new TC type barrel alone cost more than a entire CVA break open pistol which has excellent reviews and a lifetime warranty. The CVA pistols also seem to take the same TC style grips and possibly forends too. For the older, more obscure cartridges, the TC Contender and Encore is the only way to go though. I believe CVA pistols come in 204 Ruger, 6mm ARC, 223 Rem, 243 Rem, 6.5 Creedmoor, 300BLK, 350 legend, 44 Mag, 50 cal muzzleloader. The TC style CVA break open rifles also have 35 Whelen, 45-70 and 444 Marlin and 50 cal muzzleloader barreled models as well. Hope that helps some folks.

    Most of my firearms are Ruger's, including on the revolver side multiple Super Blackhawks and a GP100. For the price you can't touch them, but the quality of the Freedom Arms firearms leave every other production revolver in the smoke (swapped dust for smoke, LOL). This includes fit, finish and accuracy. Putting these on a bag, with completely equates to your familiarity, comfort and skills with each is not a viable comparison, and do this at 100 yards and beyond, and you WILL see the difference. The FA with its tolerances retains far more energy even for identical caliber/bullet with better ballistics and does shoot flatter and more accurate. Keep in mind the lighter bullets like the 240gr will not shoot as well as heavier bullets like the 300 grain. I will say you are correct on the trigger, though while it is heavy, it is also crisp with no play unlike all other factory revolvers. There is purpose to this, not just per the tight tolerances and quality, but in order to make it more predictable and sure so that consumers address it with intent. That said, trigger jobs are common, and most people who shoot this gun a lot, including those all the way up to Dick Casull get this done on all their personal guns. It comes down to customizing it for the specific shooter preference.

    You’re correct about the 3-screw quality. I hunt with my SBH more than my FA 475. I prefer blued pistols and Ruger did it perfect back in the 60’s. Very smooth action.
