A gaming channel where I try to raise questions to get you to think, through the medium of the games and my choices in them. Mostly, I just want people thinking more about their choices and the consequences. There's not enough of that in the world.
A Calm Between the Storms - Stellaris Wranglers episode 11 - Naysmith Plays
Welcome back!
Not much happened. I just built up my stuff and cleared out some Crystal Shards.
Question: How can a breather episode help with pacing? And does it apply to this circumstance?
Thanks for watching, and have a great day!

Victories and Setbacks - Stellaris Wranglers episode 10 - Naysmith Plays
มุมมอง 2916 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Welcome back! In this episode, I first win a war and then lose to the Voidworms. Simple enough. I sent a partial counterbuild against the Voidworms, then I didn't manage to permanently defeat even one of their fleets. What does this say about overconfidence and the dangers thereof? This wasn't a "use it or lose it" like my previous attacks. This was just plain me screwing up. How devastating ca...

Welcome back! Today, I try to pass an important law for freedom, but it fails. Something about a whole lot of Authoritarian ethics. I'll deal with it eventually. Then, I declare war on some of the people who prevented this bill from passing. But, in order to declare war on them, I had to rewrite federation law to be by diplomatic weight. Another instance of me rewriting the laws to my benefit. ...

Welcome back! In today's episode, I try to thrash the authoritarian regimes clockwise and inwards of me. That is to say, with me at the bottom of the galaxy, they're north and northeast. Some domestic issues stop me from my planned war to Impose Ideology on them. A rebellion (domestic to my enemies) and a sudden economic downturn (domestic to me). I end up unable to actually conquer what I want...

Welcome back! Today, I finish off the Voidworms near me with a counterbuild. Having spotted last session that they bypass my shields, that they don't have the amoeba carrier flavor, and that they have no armor, I decided on energy point-defense as well as anti-armor/hull spam. It worked. I also tried to declare a liberation war, but it didn't work because my federation buddies didn't like the i...

Attacking the Evil Empire - Stellaris Wranglers episode 05 - Naysmith Plays
มุมมอง 32หลายเดือนก่อน
Welcome back! Question of the episode: At what level of evil does a pre-emptive attack become good? Is there such a level? And what of how I have so much more power than they do, does that alter it to attacking them being evil, or just a necessary act to liberate as many as I can? I lean towards them being an example of why the Democratic Crusaders personality has "Crusaders" in its name and an...

Welcome back! Vivarium Expansion - Stellaris Wranglers episode 03 - Naysmith Plays

Welcome back! In this episode, I push back the Purifiers and the Galactic Community forms. This results in me meeting quite a few other empires. I also manage to catch some Crystaline Shards and a Cthuloid. This promises to be a viable expansion to my Vivarium. And the Tiyanki keep breeding. At least culling them alone gives me a lot of food supplies. What do you think of pre-emptive defense? T...

Welcome back! In this episode, I deal with two issues. First, some Fanatic Purifiers think I'll be easy to beat. Honestly, I thought this was going to be a 2-episode run, but it looks like I'll have plenty of room to expand once the truce is over. Second is my economy. Hello
Hello
Hi!
Bro, I just got to say, I love your background music. I don’t know where you got it from but I absolutely love it. Is that sound familiar though?
Thanks! I'm fairly sure it's the Stellaris music, basically just the game's radio. Top right of the screen is the music icon.
8:45 my brain died LOL im doing a small galaxy and I almost hit the overwhelmed spot lmao
It takes a certain balance of practice and an "I'm the top dog so I don't have to care about much" mentality. My first game ever was a tiny galaxy and I worked up from there before I started this channel.
Just happen to find this and happy i did, great video btw, im pretty much almost doing the same in my game.
Thanks! I recorded these a fair bit in advance, so I'm going to get my Nanite Swarmer reinforcements for a few more episodes before I get the Interdictor.
Your awesome dude and awesome video be safe out there good luck
Thank you! You be safe, too
Welcome back?! I've never been here before!
One of the big things I'm going to do is switch my Cruiser designs to be pure penetrating to exploit their Supremacy-class battlecruisers dropping to 12% health per damage vs penetrating than not, and their Glory-class escorts dropping to 8.5% health.

It's been good. I've got a few games I'm looking at playing when I get the chance, but I lost interest in TF2 a long time ago. Returning would be a mess in for mind.

It's quite underrated, IMO. A pity it only got one expansion, and didn't get more attention.
Not really sure why youtube recomended this, but hello again.
Hah, welcome back. Given the ARG and side-stories slowing this down, it's gonna be a few episodes before it switches to full psychological horror.

And no, I did NOT remember to fast-forward that one section. But it resolved faster than I expected, so my reason to fast-forward was reduced.
I played mostly with the base classes in the tabletop game, and the video game seems to have mostly faithfully recreated them. But I have less experience with the Prestige Classes, because Pathfinder prefers the carrot to the stick. Thus, the base classes are more incentivized. Archetypes tweak the classes, and some are full reworks. Others simply make some class choices for you. Alchemist: Bombs, Mutagens, and Extracts. Bombs do AOE damage, Mutagens and Extracts let you buff yourself through the roof for long durations. Ignore how your stats seem below-average for a martial; your class features make up for it. You're a psuedo-utility caster as well, with your extracts. I haven't checked if they get the infuse option to use Extracts on others, but that's such an iconic power that of course they should have it. Vivisectionist trades bombs for Sneak Attack, becoming a better Rogue. Arcanist: Prepare spells, and they become spells known for spontaneous casting. You're more versatile than a Sorcerer, but weaker than them. You're also less versatile than a Wizard, but you get to spam you spells. You also get some tricks on a mana system, Arcanist Exploits. Those tricks set you apart from either class, which gets weaker bonuses. Barbarian: Sack of hit points that does a lot of damage. Rage powers for some bonuses based on your style. Kill the enemy before they kill you. Bard: A mid-power caster with low-power combat abilities. They get AOE buffs for the party, and specialize in (de)buff spells. They also specialize in skills, getting EVERY skill and bardic lore to their knowledges. Bloodrager: A barbarian with a little bit of spellcasting instead of the rage powers. Cavalier: A mounted warrior. Mobile in the field, but indoors are cramped. Don't let them charge you. Make sure to abuse the charge action once you get the bonus to charging. Cleric: Combat, Casting, or Channeling energy for effects. Pick two, and you'll be happy. They get passable armor, and if you pick a deity with a good weapon and a good demon-fighting domain, you can fight. Spellcasting is focused on healing and buffing the party with a few debuffs. Druid: Wildshape Combat, Spellcasting, and Animal Companion. Pick two. You can get a domain and be almost as good at nature magic as clerics are at divine magic, and if you pick wild shape, you'll be a master of killing things as a giant cat or something like it. Fighter: Combat master. Lots of feats, so you can experiment with your options. Able to be great at both melee and ranged, as opposed to other classes who struggle to be good at one and decent at another. They have poor saves, so spend their spare feats on buffing Reflex (unless you're an archer) and Will Hunter: Weakened Druid Casting + Animal Companion selection, a few self-buffs for both. They're meant to be an archer while the animal companion fights in melee. They've got some teamwork bonuses with their animal buddy. Inquisitor: Sort of a selfish divine bard. Weakened casting from a Cleric, but they focus on Judgments to buff themselves for a fight, and Banes for a limited duration to do heavy damage. They get lots of skills, unlike other divine classes, and they get all the skills as good options. Kineticist: It is without reservation that I call Kineticist the most difficult class to play well. It is without reservation that I call a well-played and optimized Kineticist the greatest terror on the battltefield. They can be both a martial and a battle caster, rolled up in one. They have enough health to make a barbarian or a bloodrager blush. They have enough AOE damage output to make a sorcerer say, "Okay, that's decent... wait, you can do that ALL DAY?" Kineticist: "Every round." They can also control the battlefield in melee. I played alongside a kineticist in Rise of the Runelords. He dominated the battlefield. Just give the Kineticist a proper buffer to support them (Heroism, Protection from Energy, Protection from Evil, etc), and watch your enemies die. Magus: A magic knight. Cast spells, and channel them through your weapon. Fish for critical hits, because your spells benefit from your weapons' critical modifiers. There's also an archetype for ranged combat. Monk: An unarmed Specialist who buffs their fists and relies on raising their armor class through level and wisdom, not better armor. They also get huge mobility bonuses, and extra attacks per turn. Zen Archer: a more mobile archer, plays very differently since they want to be on the edge of the fight intstead of in the fray. Oracle: A divine spellcaster who can heal or harm. They use the same spells as the Cleric, but are a little more frail. They can choose a Curse (giving them debuffs and a slight buff to go with it) and a Mystery for themed buffs later. Paladin: A holy knight. Self-heals, high resistances, and an armor-penetrating Smite Evil. Basically the default assumption for this game, alongside Cleric. Ranger: A sneakier fighter. They get a combat specialization option to let them be very good at a combat type, possibly quicker even than the Fighter. To be good at both ranged and melee, select ranged combat then take Power Attack (and possibly Weapon Finesse). Rogue: A sneak with lots of out-of-combat skill ranks and and in-combat Sneak Attack for heavy damage. Frail, so let someone else take the aggro. Eldritch Scoundrel: weaker sneak attack, but gets decent spellcasting. Great for going into Arcane Trickster without multiclassing first. Shaman: A Druid with a specialization in applying debuffs with Hexes, poached from the Witch class. Skald: A Bard whose AOE buffs are giving people a Barbarian's Rage. More combat-oriented than the Bard, but otherwise nearly the same class. Slayer: Officially a Ranger/Rogue hybrid, it gets the best of both. Extra features to specialize in either a rogue's skills or a rangers combat. You can also study a target to get bonuses against them. Sorcerer: A caster who knows spells and spams them. They also have a bloodline that gives them a few niche powers that either float in the background or don't do much. Warpriest: A cleric with weakened casting, but who hyperfocuses on combat. They trade out channeling for buffing their weapon and armor nominally above a Cleric. I say "Nominally" because I've played Clerics in the tabletop game, and I laugh with Greater Magic Weapon/Vestment. Witch: A caster who chooses a list of spells to know for the day and is limited to them. They also have a set of Hexes they can spam all day, to heal or harm or debuff. They're a utility class where your resources are a bit less valuable than for other classes, but more versatile. And while you get less, some of them never run out. Alone among Arcane Casters (not counting the tiny powers Bards/Skalds have), they get some Healing abilities, normally reserved to Divine casters. Wizard: Prepare spells, then cast them. Your arcane school gives you more spells per day than the Witch, and a few niche benefits. Like, an Evoker gets bonus damage and a Transmuter gets bonus stats, while an Abjurer takes reduced damage from some attacks. That sort of thing. They don't get any healing powers
I thought these puzzles would be a lot harder than they really were. I even tried writing up a program in Python to mess around with it there, but the thing kept printing out that each of the memory objects held all of the sentences. That'll teach me to mess with global variables without studying a lot more closely their interactions with functions that set them with a local value. Then the puzzle just sort of solved itself in a couple tries. Yeah. I'm a bit embarrassed.
Hello. Because Civilization games tend to slow down as the turncount rises, I'm gonna add Civilization to stuff I sometimes play on Twitch. www.twitch.tv/naysmithgaming I mostly play Stellaris there, but I'll look to recording Civilization games and uploading them to this channel.
