Karoleena’s Cottage
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 7 ก.พ. 2022
I’m Johni and my channel is about creating home decor and crafting. If you enjoy repurposing thrifted and vintage items I’ll show you how to create a cozy vibe for your home that is inexpensive and fun! I explain how to use ordinary items to create French Country and Cottage Style decor.
Karoleena’s Cottage is named for my favorite book from childhood, “Karoleena”. She had wonderful adventures under the watchful eye of her nanny and parents. I related this to God finding me during my childhood and I understood at the age of eight that He knew me and cared for me.❣️
I'm in the San Antonio, TX area, a retired RN, a veteran (11 years as an Army reserve nurse), and a grandmother. There’s not enough hours in the day for crafting and thrifting!

Paper Mache Christmas Crafts - Cheap Cottage Style Christmas Crafts - Crafts Made From Egg Cartons
Who knew you could make paper mache from cardboard egg cartons? In today’s video I’ll show you how to do that and how to craft shabby Cottage Style Christmas decorations using this cheap and easy method. I’ll start with an ordinary cardboard egg carton, tear it into small pieces, soak those pieces in water, and blend them into a paper mache pulp. This pulp can be strained and placed into silicone molds to create cardboard/paper mache castings to use as shabby cottage style Christmas decorations. I’m using cottage style colors of ivory, gold, pink, and blue in this project and you can give these decorations a more rustic look by using traditional Christmas reds and greens. I’ll demonstrate how to set these castings and trim them, how to seal the cardboard before applying paint, and how to attach and embellish these designs. This is a fun, easy, and inexpensive way to make crafts for any season and these are especially nice for Christmas ornaments, package decor, and package hang-tags. Use your own imagination and creativity to expand on my ideas and create your own style or theme for these easy to make projects. I have included links below for purchasing IOD and Prima Redesign molds, and links for additional trims and supplies used today.

Hi Johni I love you idea for Christmas ornaments and embellish. I am just finishing up my ornaments for my daughter’s tree. Also I have a couple pieces I would love to give to you. What day will you be at your shop? I can meet with you.
That's a stroke of genius. And so pretty in the execution:)
Thank you so much - glad you liked it! ❣️
These are wonderful! 🎉 I'm saving this video because I really want to give this a try. I hope I can run across a second-hand blender. You're very creative and talented. 😊
Thank you so much! I know you’ll find one - have fun! ❣️
Great video! Amazing that you get such beautiful results without even using glue.
Glad you liked it! Thank you! ❣️
Adorable!
Thank you! ❣️
They really turned out nice. I like the way they look like they are textured..
Thank you! ❣️
This is absolutely brilliant idea and what a a money saving way to decorate for Christmas. Really really clever. Thank you for sharing this amazing idea😊
Thank you so much Annie! Glad you liked it! ❣️❣️❣️
I absolutely love these
Thank you! Glad you liked it! ❣️
FABULOUS 💖So Very Lovely!!!
Thank you so much! ❣️
I just spent 20.00 for clay..this is much cheaper and looks great.
Thank you! You can’t beat the price, especially if you’re making something that will need a lot of castings. Thanks for watching! ❣️
This is genius! Do you use your regular blender, or do you have a special blender just for recycled medium?
Thank you! I used an old blender I haven’t used in a couple of years. In a couple of videos I watched they just used a regular blender.
Have you tried adding white glue to the paper mache?
I have not tried that. I’m wondering if the carton already had glue mixed with the paper but not sure. Thanks for watching! ❣️
@@karoleenascottageI watched a video of one lady who put white glue in her mixture after she drained the water out of it
@ Ah, interesting!
Oh Johni, I absolutely LOVE these, and the embellishments you added to each is perfect! Although they are all fantastic, my favorite has to be the chicken with the harlequin background!
Thank you! I’m so glad you liked the video and the chicken! ❣️❣️❣️
Absolutely Stunningly Gorgeous projects ❤ Thank you so kindly for sharing your wonderful talent and videos with us all ❤Take great care and keep creating and smiling xoxo ❤

Thank you so kindly for sharing your wonderful talent and videos with us all Definitely going to make some of these. Absolutely love the IOD molds. I several of them just waiting to be used this way. Take great care and keep creating and smiling xoxo ❤❤

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much! ❣️
Beautiful and so different. Ty 4 sharing.
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it! ❣️
What a fantastic idea! I love the look of the texture on these molds. If I have to pick a favorite it would be the rooster. I have a big collection of them, and I LOVE the harlequin added to it. Great video! Thank you! ❤
Thank you so much! I like roosters too. ❣️❣️❣️
So pretty and creative! Love learning something new! Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you, so glad you liked it! ❣️
I think the texture from the cardboard and tissue gives the moulds a higher end look. But that’s my preference. Great work on those ornaments 😍
I totally agree! I think I may do more of the TP ones - I do like the texture of the paper crafts. Thank you! ❣️
I can't pick a favorite. They are all beautiful
Thank you so much! ❣️❣️❣️
Thank you for sharing your projects🙏
Thank you so much! ❣️
There all beautiful 😻
Thank you so much Yolanda! ❣️
Johnie these are lovely!
Thank you so much! ❣️❣️❣️❣️
These are beautiful, Johnie! How many of the egg cartons did you use to make that amount? Blessings ❤
Thank you Barbara! I used one of the 18-count cartons. I had paper mache left over so I think a 12-count regular size carton would work just fine.
I love these so much!! All the extra touches are awesome. Drawing the lines on the rooster is perfect. I love anything with bows and buttons. Tfs. These were just the best💕💕💕
Thank you so much Myra for your sweet comments! So glad you liked the video! ❣️❣️❣️
@ 💕💕💕
Such a good way to recycle.
Are they real stiff when they dry or are they bendable?
They're stiff. Not hard like air dry clay but stiff like the egg carton was.
Yes! A very good way to recycle.

Oh I have been anxiously awaiting this. Now to watch…

These are all so lovely, Johni, shabby chic at it's finest! And I love your choice of ribbon embellishments! One question, did you have any issues with your stamps and moulds afterwards as far as cleaning them?
Thanks so much, glad you liked it! No problems at all with anything sticking and no residue. They’re actually cleaner than when I use air dry clay.
well, you've gotten me and my sister into another fine mess!!!!! now, we've got to do this🤣🤣🤣
LOL, that’s hilarious! I hope you both have lots of fun! ❣️❣️
Really beautiful, I absolutely love the use of pink! Your choice of the IOD stone grey color for stamping on it was gorgeous, and those little white polka dots are just the sweetest thing!!💞💞💞
Thank you so much! Glad you liked it! ❣️
Oh my goodness Johni, the colors and techniques you used are beautiful! I really was impressed by the use of pale pink, cozy beige and farmhouse linen with pale gold trim and black stamp ink. I never would have thought of using those colors together and now I can't wait to use them on a project! French Country and shabby chic are my favorite styles and you've managed to achieve both with these projects. Thank you!! 🥰
I’m so glad you liked those color combinations! Thank you for your feedback, it’s very kind of you. Have fun with your next projects!❣️
Beautiful!!!!
Thank you! ❣️
Love this!!❤❤
Thank you so much! ❣️
What brand of tissue did you use to not have the heavy quilted tissue? Thanks!!
It was Wal-Mart’s brand “Great Value Soft and Strong”. It does have a quilting pattern on it and it looks to be 2 ply. 😉❣️
How sweet! Love the paper glue idea...thank You for sharing

How refreshing, Johni, to watch a crafter make a lovely item without recommending items that cost more than many of us can lay out should we want to recreate the item. These are really pretty and so unique! Can’t wait to see what you’re making from egg cartons. Thanks. Enjoyed!
