Basically, the WAD for the Wii U Menu will just reboot your Wii U, because when you boot the Wii U, it will always default to the Wii U Menu (except if you use Homebrew, where you can make it a CFW or the vWii Menu), the same works for the Wii, if you open the Wii U Menu, it will just reboot your Wii and go to the Wii Menu.

I always assumed this channel was a part of the Wii U firmware, somehow 'modded' into the vWii to make it accessible, if that makes sense. It's interesting to see it's actually far simpler, and it really is just a Wii app!

I think all the Wii U menu channel is is just a reset button, because that’s all it needs to do in order to go back to the Wii U.

It doesnt crash, its how the Wii NAND operates. For example the wii has 2 parts of the 16 bit NAND first 8 is for Wii last 8 is for Gamecube. What the .wad channel does is that it tells the wii to switch from the second 8 bits of the NAND to the first 8. (For wiiU the first half are for wiiu and last half is wii mode) so realistically all that channel is doing on an original wii is just a reboot, telling it to get off of gamecube and into wii mode since thats how the NAND partitions are.

Wii U menu is just a reset, so in the case of a Wii U, it boots up as normal, in the Wii, when it resets, it goes back to the Wii Menu instead.
