    Have you noticed any difference in the smoothness in slo mo playback in the 2 techniques?

      Hi there, no, I haven’t noticed any difference in the smoothness of the playback in the timeline while editing , or in the playback of the rendered, final product. The smoothness of the playback in the timeline will totally depend on your computer system and how good it is. Thanks for the question!

    How did you come up with your calculations for slow motion? I'm curious if there's a formula I can remember to use whenever I want to transform my 60fps and 120fps footage into a 24fps timeline.

    • @jwphotoworks
      @jwphotoworks 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi there, great question, here is the calculation list I use for "percentages". I use these "percentages" to change the clip back to playback in its original speed AFTER I've changed the frame rate to 24fps for slow motion. You'd need to do this if you want to speed ramp your footage. If you are just looking to change your footage from 120 or 60fps to 24fps, you can do that by just right clicking on the video clip thumbnail in the viewer, selecting "clip attributes" and changing it to 24fps in the "video frame rate" drop down menu. Hope this helps! 48/24=2 • 2 x 100 = 200% 60/24=2.5 • 2.5 x 100 = 250% 96/24=4 • 4 x 100 = 400% 120/24=5 • 5 x 100 = 500% 240/24=10 • 10 x 100 = 1000% 300/24=12.5 • 12.5 x 100 = 1250%

    Okay but Audio plays still in real time. How to get the audio match to slow motion clip?

    • @jwphotoworks
      @jwphotoworks 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Good question! I usually don't include the audio with my slowed down, or speed ramped video clips, because the audio would be slowed down too, which sounds weird. I usually put music tracks to my clips, so the original audio from the clip, for my stuff at least, isn't important. BUT, if you do want to keep the audio track in your slowed down footage, if your clip is in your timeline, make sure you "un link" the audio track from the video track (right click on the timeline clip and at the bottom, click on the "link clips" option), and from there right click on the audio track, and select "new compound clip", name the clip something like "audio track", then right click on the audio track in the timeline, and select "change clip speed". In the box that pops up, change the % of the clip speed to match the % of what you slowed your footage down to. For example, if you change a 30fps clip to 24fps, that's 80%, so you'd change the audio clip speed to 80%. There you have it, slowed down audio to match your video clip. I might make a TH-cam tutorial for this, and if I do, I'll post the link to it here. Hope that helps.

      @@jwphotoworks i found out that you don´t need to change clip attributes to other framerate for slow motion (like in premiere) you cab just "change clip speed" and davinci will use the available fps

    in the beginning of your presentation the clip is in the media pool, how are you playing your clip without it being in the timeline, Thanks

    • @jwphotoworks
      @jwphotoworks 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You can double click on a clip in the media pool and it will open in the viewer, allowing you to then play it and/or scrub through it to set the IN and OUT points of the portion of the clip that you want to slow down. This is an important first step because it's also the step that you change the clip attributes(frame rate) of the clip from 30, 60, or 120, down to 24fps before you drag the portion you want to work with down to the timeline. Hope that helps, and thanks for the comment!

    • @Spidouz
      @Spidouz 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Your comment makes no sense to me, if you have 120 frames and you want them to read in super slow mo, then you will play 24 frames at the time, so a 1 second clip will now takes around 5s to play. There’s no jerky video from Resolve (surely not with the Studio version, never tried the free), also if you’re on a Apple Silicon Mac, you will get some acceleration to handle it so the video will be butter smooth (as long as your source is too). There’s no need to reduce a 120fps to 24fps, you simply just set how fast you want it to play it and then Resolve will play frames according to your speed selection. If you really want to use Slow Mo with Resolve, then you better get the Studio version to get the GPU acceleration. His problem you’re seeing here is due to his lack of power by not using Resolve Studio.

      Thanks for the reply. I was going to reply to the original comment this morning, but you've pretty much summed up what I was going to say! Yes, I could get better (faster) real time editing and rendering results by taking advantage of the GPU acceleration that the Studio version gives, but for the most part, I create proxies and generate optimized media as part of my workflow while working on projects. Not AS fast/good as utilizing my GPU, but good enough for what I need while editing. The end result is what I'm after. As far as changing the 120fps to 24fps in the timeline, well, I've done a whole other video on that as an alternative way to achieve this result. Congratulations, for everything... for the teachings and for the decision not to try to explain this technique with words but to make a video so that one can watch and learn why the other technique is preferable... Very few would do this, whether on TH-cam or in the physical classroom... Congratulations for this... I watched both videos because I saw your response to the guy with the link to this video... So I came to see and learn about this technique and understand better why the other is really better. But it's a disappointment, the person who made the comment received a response, you went to all that work, you provided her with the link to this video, so that she could have a better quality answer to the question she asked and that person doesn't appear here to see and leave a comment, nor to thank you for your effort. Human beings are disappointing, it seems to me that the guy in the other video just wanted to appear knowledgeable, intelligent and knows more... and didn't have the courage to come here, not even to say thank you. Unfortunate... But thank you for all the teachings and just like me, there are many people who are grateful and who give due value to your work here.

      I would recommend this lens to anyone in general. It's a great lens and is generally less expensive than the "big 3" version of the same focal length and speed. If you can pick one up with an EF-E adapter or F-E adapter, go for it. I will say though, it is a pretty heavy lens, so on a a6400, it might feel a bit unbalanced, unless you are tripod mounting it most of the time. Handheld can get a bit tiring after a while! Maybe pop into your local camera shop and try a Sony 70-200 on your camera body to get an idea of the size and weight of this sort of lens to help make your decision. Hope that helps!

      Hi Tim, thanks for the comment. Most of the events and genres of sports that I shoot don't require credentials as they are usually free to attend and open to the public. There have been a few events where the organizers issue credentials for a select few photographers to get "inside the tape", but for the most part, they are not required for the sports I shoot, mainly cycling and skateboarding. It's best to check with the organizers before hand to see if it cool to show up and shoot. For cycling events, it's usually not a problem, as there is tons of space (the side of a mountain!) to work in, but for skateboarding events, there is less space to work in and around, so it's best to check with the organizers to make sure you're not going to get in the way. When I select images and videos that will go up on my Stock portfolios (shutterstock, Pond5, Adobe Stock, etc), they are always submitted as "editorial" content, thereby negating (for the most part) the need for releases and credentials. Hop that helps!

    Impressive! Never considered using a Pentax as a video recorder. I think I'll be doing some experimenting. Video looks great! What is that monitor screen you have on your hot shoe?

      Thanks very much! Yeah, I’m pretty impressed with it so far. The monitor I’m using is a Lilliput A5 5 inch monitor. Picked it up off Amazon a year or so ago. It’s pretty good, but I did need to put an anti glare screen protector on it cause it’s pretty reflective outdoors.
