how do you get a beginner to refine a technique such as " figure 4" to properly finish a kimura or americana ? at some point you have to dive into specific details for proper application.

@@travis1687 so open guard, seated guard, butterfly are all lame, so your fine with jumping full guard or pulling half guard. If the top guy would engage and not run away the puller wouldnt have to scoot around. Say we all agree buttscooting is lame, isnt running from a seated opponent more of a biatch move. Imagine showing your match to your non bjj friends and calling the buttscooter lame but you are running scared from someone dragging their ass.

I have a question... So why wouldn't step by step on how you do an armbar from mount along side games like this hurt or be a waste of time ?.. if you can give the answers to the general problem and have the student find the ways to apply the answers within the games how does that become a waste of time... Sometimes with new students its a matter of them feeling their body move within positions without the resistance because they have never moved in such a way before ...

Wow! That was amazing! I watched this video after seeing the ecopalooza seminar video and Im so glad I watched it and this video of an actual class! Your theory concepts and style are very interesting and educational I like how it's basic easy to understand and makes sense it reminds me of how in the animal kingdom the lions teach their cubs to hunt in a playful active way as they don't speak or exactly have a language they don't tell them what to do same with the cubs and how they play is all geared to the hunt and learn via action active movement situations not in drills and told how to do a technique for example no one tells them to jump and grab on the back of a zebra use their body weight and claws to take them down pin them to the ground and bite the throat of the zebra anyway this is my humble opinion also I'd be interested to to know if these theory and concept can work with other martial arts more the striking rather than grappling? Hopefully you will be able to reach the UK as I'd love to get taught this way..

  • @benlevin7296

Question: in this approach, is there any room for a coach to introduce a potentially novel idea that may not occur to the trainee due to the technique being so far outside of the knowledge scope? For instance, when isolating an arm for an armlock, a former coach introduced to me the idea of the attacker doing an Americana formation with his own arm to undo the defender's arm knot, which was very counterintuitive, effective, and something I never would have been unlikely to figure out on my own, though this technique did apparently occur to Ryan Hall at some point. To be clear: this approach is very interesting and much of the value is evident from even a casual observation.
