Turbo Hijet kei truck | On track in-car and blows engine at 26psi and 157kmh.
The boosted Daihatsu Hijet kei truck at Lakeside park raceway for the annual Livetodai race day.
Sadly the boost was to much and a over-boost lifts the head two laps in. More explanation on why It over boosted at end of video.
Video taken and photo from the day was limited due to the mishap so I've worked with what I have.
The truck will be back better, stronger and faster.
(Maybe a different engine) 😉

This is my 85' Daihatsu Hijet kei truck. The 993cc engine is a modified Turbo Daihatsu charade cb60 with a Subaru tf035hm turbo, ported/polished head, arp head studs, 2" stainless exhaust, custom intake and manifold and too many other modifications to list. I don't know why it took this long for TH-cam to recommend me your video. You answered exactly what I was looking to do with my Daihatsu Atrai. If I could replicate your work I'd be the second happiest guy on earth. I was going to put a Goldwing engine in mine, but this makes so much more sense. and the fitment is... Chef's Kiss.

I don't understand why you would go racing without setting up something as simple as the wastegate. Nice truck.
Really cool! I want to do something similar with a sambar. Sounds like the turbo is surging...is the blow off valve adequate?

I’m envious. Practically illegal to swap motors here in Japan.
This is definitely a must, the lack of Horsepower is terrible for a Kei truck. Since on the Interstate it cannot keep up with the other drivers.
How do you tune it?

Cruising speed 90kmh. Max speed was 155kmh at 7200rpm and 27psi. Down low is where the fun is at anyway. I mean 0-60kmh it will chop a Modded STi

zul azim halim I’m running standard compression but could run a decompression plate or iv heard of people using Honda pistons.
@@littlektruck5065 standard compression. What is the standard ratio for this kei? Stock internal been push with 18psi. I bet the rod etc are screaming.
zul azim halim stock internals are strong will hold 14-16psi all day. 18psi is at its upper limit but it’s very rare that I take it that far. I did push it that far at one point in the video as I was testing for knock/ det in my tune. Thanks
