Let's Play - [Windows] - Broken Sword [1996] Revolution (No commentary) - Part 14
Here is Part 14 of my playthrough of the classic adventure game by Revolution Software, Broken Sword - The Shadow of the Templars!
Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars (also known as Circle of Blood in the United States) is a 1996 point-and-click adventure game developed by Revolution Software. It is the first in the Broken Sword series, co-written and directed by Charles Cecil. The player assumes the role of George Stobbart (voiced by Rolf Saxon), an American tourist in Paris, as he attempts to unravel a deep conspiracy involving a sinister cult and a hidden treasure, seeing him travel to various locations around Europe and the Middle East. The game's storyline was conceived to feature a serious tone and heavily influenced by research on Knights Templar by Cecil, but was also interlaced with humor and graphics in the style of classic animated films.
Broken Sword proved a critical and commercial success following its release on 30 September 1996. Critics lauded praise on the game's story, puzzles, voice acting, writing, gameplay, and music, leading to it receiving numerous award nominations and wins. Sales of the games bested expectations by the company, with around one million units having been sold by 2001. The game has topped several listings of the best adventures games, with many developers citing Broken Sword as an influence in future adventure games.

Love me some broken sword!!! Takes me back to playing round my friends house on his PC, this would have been like 97 or something, good times!
Loved this game. Such a golden age of gaming.

What a classic
Hello
interesting
Thanks for this! This game seems so charming!
Schutzstaffel! Mein Leben!
Halt! Stop! 😀
Grew up playing this on my dads computer when it was new. This and Space Bubble from ages 2-6. Never learned how to play the game (as I was 2-6 heh) but loved it. So glad I know the title now
The Dig rocks too.
On the list!
That highway fight was excellent. Love the way his front tire popped off while he was in his Victory Wheely.
Great little game.
love this game
Outrider > Millenium Falcon
😳!!!! Almost 30 years later and I still remember the voice acting, phrases and 1:56 with Gone Jackals (Legacy) and rolling over the car! Best way to start a game! My GF at the time liked Monkey Island and asked what was so cool about it. We had a play through together and today she's my wife! What a game!
I still have the CD ...
Good times!
I used to ride bikes, now I drive a minivan. It was hard to change because I have played this game.
Time to play through some Sierra On-Line games....
In the pipeline!
would be nice to find some one who plays Lords of the realm 2. Those sierra games were tricky!
I was wondering if this is playable in modern PCs with Windows 11... ? Is there a project that modifies the game like RE: Rebirth from Gemini, to allow that?
You can use ScummVM: scummvm.org
Full Throttle is a 1995 graphic adventure high quality video game developed by LucasArts and designed by Tim Schafer. Best Game EVER!!! For that time So many memories!!! Installation bonus menus gameplay Action Plot Music Dialogs and Final sunset soundtrack ending - flawless
Loved those Lucas Arts games back then. Actually going through Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. That stuff was so hard to figure out without walk-throughs and hand-holding.
You could buy these hint books or whatever they were called for games. Also, LA actually had a 1-900 tip line you could call and ask for help. I remember that because I convinced my dad to let me call it because i was stuck on Dark Forces.
Brings back memories.
God damnit I remember this floating boss! Played in 320 x 240. Thx for the video!
Nice video, keep it up!
😍 P r o m o S M
Oh man, the feels....the storyline for Jedi Knight Dark Forces II was so original for its time. Was a great star wars game.
Outstanding graphics and gameplay for 1995😊😁💪😎.
A way to become over powered in this game is to curse yourself with monster attraction and combine it with the wish scroll at 16:38 so that you could wish for a high level weapon. This meant you could fight endless waves of enemies and level up indefinitely.
I do believe the PC version needs a modding community behind it
you know I feel like shadows of the empire would've looked good and played good on Ps1. imagine the PC cutscenes will look great on Ps1.
Such an elegant game.
I would love this game so much more if it wasn't so click heavy. Still a great game is there an emulator for this?
The key bindings are way more efficient than mouse for menus and inventory. Mini vMac is the emulator you want.
Ah formgen. Also the seller of keen6 and partly why it’s not available for sale on steam! I never ever saw planet strike in retail in New Zealand growing up. I first got a copy in 2012 thanks to gog then later on steam
Yeah Formgen was the original US distributor for the retail releases. The distributor here in AUS was Manaccom, unfortunately they have shut down now as far as I know :( I also never saw a copy of Blake Stone AOG or Planet Strike in the wild, these ones I'm unboxing are from Ebay. Only Apogee/3D Realms game I managed to buy from a retail store was Rise of the Triad (it was a Manaccom budget release, I may do an unboxing of that one at some stage)
Hi James, great video. I'm planning to do a video from my physical items then a walkthrough 100% on the toughest difficulty
Thank you Tim :D Would love to see that!
@@classicgameunboxing Hi James. I finally got around to it and did it on Veteran 100% of everything! Hope you are well
Check out this link. I think you'll like it James. :) twitter.com/3drealms/status/646695537949806592
Thanks so much Joe! That's amazing. Big fan of all the Apogee/3D Realms games since I was young! Loved your ROTT levels by the way
+James S you're welcome. Spotted the clip and tweeted it out from 3dr acct. would have pinged you on Twitter, but didn't know your handle.
+Joe “Dopefish” Siegler That's alright, I have a Twitter but I don't use it very much. I'm just chuffed you guys saw my video! It was games like Blake Stone/Wolfenstein 3D that made me want to study Computer Science :)
James S The original version of the game didn't come in a box like that. That box was produced many years later by our retail distributor at the time. We never sold it directly in that manner.
+Joe “Dopefish” Siegler That's right, I bought the original floppy disk version off you guys when you were still selling them, and I got just the disks and manual without box. In my Planet Strike unboxing, I mention Formgen: th-cam.com/video/NozsTXRjRFE/w-d-xo.html Did you guys ever directly sell a floppy disk version of Planet Strike, or was it just a retail CD version by Formgen?
Thanks for the unboxing. It's always nice to see some LucasArts love. Two big aspects of the multimedia blitz accompanying this game in addition to those you mention were the toys and comic books. All told, this was by far the largest marketing blitz for any Star Wars related item coming out of Lucas-land since the classic trilogy - of which, as you surely recall, LucasFilm was in the midst of re-releasing as 'special editions' at the time. For many, the popular notion of an 'expanded universe' begins with Shadows. I remember having a great time exploring all the various media associated with this title. It was surprisingly consistent and all of it weaved together nicely.
Thanks for your comment and your subscription! I realised after making the video that there were also action figures and the comic book made of SOTE, both of which I own. Good spotting! I plan to do more Lucasarts unboxings very soon!
