เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 21 เม.ย. 2012
Hello, we're a couple in eastern Tennessee living on 2.5 very neglected acres and our elevation is roughly 2,600 feet. 2022 was spent focusing our time & money on a gut rehab of the existing 1100 sqft house. 2023 we expanded our garden adding a 50 foot long caterpillar high tunnel. Bees are in the near future along with lots of fencing! We'd really enjoy meeting other folks in the area that having similar interests of homesteading, gardening, house repairs, canning, cooking, etc. Thank you for stopping by our little channel.

Our String Trellis Method for Tomatoes in the Hoop House

We needed to make a change to our string trellis method from last year, 2023. This year we were having trouble getting the string to loop at the base of each plant. Instead of a loop it was more like a noose, which would girdle the plant over time. Glad to see the garden is doing so well. That solar fan is it temperature controlled? We are just in the starting stages of a greenhouse build. Stay warm and good to hear from you. Cheers, Mike.
Hey Mike! We survived the damage from Helene on the homestead, just losing some large pines that knocked the power lines down. The fans are sunshine controlled, lol. Our thought was we only need ventilation if the sun is out hitting the PV panel. There is a manual on/off switch if you want to disable the fan. Here's a link www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B4K8H6NT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 We installed the the first one about 9 months ago and so far it's working without any problems. Let me know if you have any additional questions. Take care!
@ hey thanks for the link! Glad you two are well. Cheers
Anyone know if the 2007 is same or similar?
Good afternoon. You've probably already goggled this "The 2007 Toyota Camry Solara convertible was part of the second generation of the Solara, which was produced from 2004-2008". I'm guessing they are the same.
@@tbb10785 Thank you.
Hi, after a year is the zip system flashing still stuck to the bricks? I’ve seen some people use the stretch version. Thanks
Hello! Yes, it's still sticking to the blocks after 14 months. The most difficult part is working on your hands and knees, which made rolling the zip-tape for good adhesion a little difficult. I do remember my shoulders being sore for a few days, lol. My crawl space is so much nicer and less humid then it was before. Take care
@@tbb10785thank you! Happy new year !!
Thanks so much for this video, I am going to try this method. I have a slightly different version of the ashley and am wondering - how can I tell if the air intake is open or closed? Also, once the fire is bigger, do you add a larger piece of wood or how long will that fire last that you created?
Hello Amanda. You are very welcome! One way would be check the manual, it looks like they are available online. The other way, which is probably what I would do, the next time you get a fire going and close the door completely, pull or push in on the air intake adjustment. Watch the fire and see if the flames get larger or get smaller. If they get larger then it's fully open, and vise versa. The biggest tip is use dry kindling and fully dry small pieces of firewood. We've had a Vermont Castings, Jotul, and Ashley Wood Stoves, and each air tight stove was a little difficult to start. Once you have a bed of coals it's easier to keep the fire going. I hope this helps and if not send a another note. Take care
@@tbb10785 super helpful response, I appreciate it and am happy to report I was able to get multiple fires started in the Ashley stove. Thank YOU!
Good morning! Very glad to know that you're making friends with your woodstove 😁. This week I'm trying something "new", new is bad right, lol. I'm trying lighting the fire from the top down. The kindling is going on top of the small pieces of wood. The order of the paper & wood is exactly opposite of the video. I've heard about starting a fire this way and thought I'd give it a week of starting fires before I comment. Take care!
Can you tell me from each rear corner of the stove, how far from side walls? Is Bottom of pedestal same size as top of stove?
Hello. From the back corner to the stone work about 12 inches and it gets larger as you get to the front of the stove. FYI, we removed the sheetrock and replaced with cement backerboard for the stone work. The hottest fires heat the stone work to about 125 degrees fahrenheit according to my infrared temp reader, so not that hot. The back of the stove has a heat shield so most of the heat is from the sides and front. The pedestal is about 10 inches tall. Hope this helps and Merry Christmas!
Thank you, just blurry enough to be frustrating to watch.
I agree, I need better equipment. Merry Christmas!
What did you use for walls? Did you do them yourself?
Hello! We removed the sheetrock and installed cement backer board. The stone/tile was then installed over the backer board which gave us about 1 inch thick of masonry before the framing lumber. Our friend and contractor installed the stove, pipe, and rock/tile. We did as much as we could of the gut rehab of the house, demo, paint, poly, etc. Our friend could only make the trip to our place to work about once or twice a week. Merry Christmas!
I do not remove the whole door to change the batteries. I only remove the black part that is held on by four screws. That was your second step.
Hello Andy. I'm not sure why I removed the whole door. I'm sure there was a good reason, lol. Yes, now I just take off the black box held by 4 screws. I think I had to enlarge the hole directly under the door so the debris the chickens bring up the ramp didn't interfere with the door closing. Yesterday I had to remove ice so the door would open. Gotta love winter time 🙂
Thank you. I did not dare to bend the wiper far enough. I now know I can. 😊
I'm glad the video helped. It wasn't how I expected to change the wiper blade. Sadly our RAV4 starting burning oil at 200,000 miles and we decided to sale it.
Saving for later
Very informative. Thanks for taking the time to do this review.
Thank you! We appreciate the kind words! Any additional info you would like to know about the stove? We're thinking of doing a follow up video since this is starting our 2 heating season with the stove.
Just got the same model and was having trouble getting the fire to start. You saved the day. Thank you!
Fantastic! I'm glad the video helped you get the fire started. We save all our paper grocery bags during the year to mix with the kindling on start ups. We just had our second snow 4 inch snow in the last week, glad with live in the south lol 😁! Yes, our stove is going
Fantastic video 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you! Hope you have a great weekend!
I would love to see how you use the freeze dried mashed potatoes. We're they just like fresh after you moisten and added butter and cream?
Good morning. Sorry for the delay I broke our Star Link dish so no internet at home. Yes, after adding boiling water and letting them sit for about 10 mintues, the mashed potatoes were almost exactly the flavor and texture as fresh. The hash browns we haven't tried yet but expect them to be 99% as fresh. Take care
I found speaker adapters with tabs. No drilling
That's fantastic! Did you find them on Amazon?
Hey a little late to the party, but did you say in the video you cut the top of the vent since the siding was at the top of the vent hole? What did you use to cut it?
Hello! We're a little late on posting any new videos, lol! Life has been really busy, a new grand baby, and we were in the middle of the Helene mess. The starter strip for my vinyl siding was hanging down over the top of the vent opening. To make the new new vent look flush I cut the top off with my hack saw. Any fine toothed blade would make a nice clean cut. New vents are a little work but worth it.
Hello, Did you guys install the venting part of the stove?
Hello! Are you referring to an electric blower for the rear of the stove? No. We did connect the fresh air (intake air) at the rear of the stove to pull air from our crawl space instead of room (conditioned) air. FYI, our crawl space is vented. Did this answer your questions? If not, send another note 🙂
Very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to let me know 🙂Greatly appreciated! Glad the video helped
Nice video. I just received a set not knowing about the 3 day thing. Maybe I'll install two-only at a time, waiting a few days before doing the other two. That way, I at least can keep two windows open all the time while I drive and/or have the car parked and ventilated with open windows.
Thank you! We could only wait about 24 hours and the vent shades are working fine 🙂. I think it's a good idea that you have to install 2 wait and then install the other 2 a few days later!

Hello! I'm not sure what to do with the small "ash" drawer. I scoop out the ashes once they've cooled into a metal bucket and save for the garden. I can't think a good use for this compartment?
One small tip I have for mounting the speakers to the adapters: get 6 DVD cases and use 3 on each side to support the bracket and speaker on a flat surface. Makes it much less nerve racking to get that first screw started, especially on expensive speakers.
Thank you, great tip!
Whats a realistic burn time for this stove? Will it hold fire overnight? Thanks
Sorry for the delay hurricane Helene has knocked out power and internet at our house in east Tennessee. I'm in town catching up on work. The stove will have about a 3 hour burn time with the air intake at the smallest setting. It will continue to have coals and radiant heat for another 2 hours. We usually only put enough wood into the stove for a 1 hour burn. If we burn much longer the house gets over 80 degrees. Take care!
@@tbb10785 No need whatsoever to apologize, thanks for the reply. Sorry for what you are going through. Stove seems like a pretty good deal overall. I'm in New Hampshire. We'd need something to hold a fire overnight. Our house is 1790 and a little light on insulation. I run a 70k BTU Harmon for 1500sqft
Love to see more videos of these stoves. There aren't many. Maybe set up a camera and record a long term burn. Stay safe!

I just finished installing my line cover a few days ago. I also had thought that they had sent me the wrong parts, but I eventually figured it out. I didn't see your video until after I completed the install. The manufacturers of these thing should provide better instructions. Great video! Genius! Saved me time and money! Thanks so much~
Fantastic, you are very welcome! So glad it helped 😀
Love this door, thanks for the tutorial!
You are very welcome! We love this door too, it's working perfectly after almost 18 months. The only issue is ice build up in the winter which cause the door not to open sometimes.
So, you do not fill the oil filter canister with oil before replacing? Also, I noticed today that the interior of the canister is spring loaded, so it's important to note that there is more resistance to screwing it on once it reaches that point of the threading.
Hello! FYI, we sold the RAV4 recently because it started to burn/use oil at 200,000 miles. This is with 5,000 mile oil change intervals. I couldn't figure out a way to add oil to the canister during an oil change. Easy with a spin-oil filter which I do on the new vehicle. I agree about the spring in the canister, I always felt like I was over-tightening the canister, and would break the plastic. Take care!
I’ve rewatched this videos so many times trying to understand how u got all that stuff off to even clean the gutters. Like I understand everything else but how u took off the covers bc some of the nuts are being blocked off and there’s no other good tutorials
Hello. Thanking you for watching and sorry for the delay in responding. The bottom rocker cover is held on by plastic push pins that you pry off. We sold the car 4 years ago so I had to watch the video again. The cover you remove from the trunk was all 10mm bolts/nuts if my memory is working. You can send a picture to my email of what's causing you trouble and I'll try to help. tbb10785@hotmail.com
Did you replace the rear speakers too? Do the same adapters work back there? Thanks for the video!
Hello! Yes, the same adapters work for rear/back seat speakers. I didn't mentioned it in the video but my left rear speaker doesn't work. I switched with the right rear which was working and still didn't work. I assume my almost 20 year old stereo is to blame. Anyway, I went from 1 speaker to 3 working so it was progress 😁.
Would you mind posting pictures of the instruction manual? Our box came without the instructions
Hello. Sorry, we tossed the instructions after assembling the kitty condo. I did search for a PDF file on line, no luck 😥

I replaced my drive cable, thanks to your video!!!! Sadly now my back wheels don't turn when I engage the drive cable. Did I do something wrong, or is this another type of fix? 🙏 Please help !!
Hello, thank you for the kind words. Hmmm, is there any tension on the cable when you try to engage? If they worked before the cable broke, I'd go back and check the installation of the new cable. Why? I had a good friend who was a mechanic and his words of wisdom where, "go back and check the last thing you touched".
Next time, throw the peeled cloves into a food processor for 15-30 seconds before putting them onto the freeze dryer trays so they freeze uniformly. You can also smoke the chopped cloves for the most amazing powder! :)

Thank you for this video, I just happened to stumble on it. I just got a 2007 SLE and when I was checking the spare/tools I noticed a fair bit of nasty water pooled where the jack goes. It seems pretty simple to pull that rocker cover and check those drains!

Thx for the help, I have a craftsman m430 and it’s the same mower basically, so this helped a lot

Thank you so much for posting this "How Do" video! I am getting water in the floor of the rear passanger seat of my 2007 Solara. I replaced the top and drain system gutter about 3 years ago and it worked fine until the last month or so. I didn't realize that it was not draining properly until I noticed that the rear carpet mat was damp. At first I thought it was caused from someone spilling a water bottle, so I removed the mat and kept it out trying to airdry the floor area. Then when I was traveling somewhere the person in the pasanger seat noticed a water trickling sound (I don't know how else to describe what they heard). It was then I realized that the drains must be clogged. As I mentioned, I installed a new top and drain system a few years ago. I found a video on TH-cam for how to change the top and after watching 3 or 4 times and making notes I decided I could do this myself and ordered the top. After removing the top I discovered that the drain system gutter was very rotted, most likely due to age and my frequent use of the top. I will not say that replacing the top was simple, but I had a friend help and we methodically followed the steps I had written down from watching the video; it took a couple of 6 hour days. If you decide to do the convertable top replacement yourself plan ahead and BE SURE TO ORDER A DRAIN GUTTER SYSTEM AND DO THEM BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. It will save you the headache of getting everything apart and then discovering you need a drain system, which sometimes has a several week back order (which happened to me). Luckily I was able to call the manufacturer of the drain system myself in Rhode Island and the Operations Manager was kind enough to send me one out within a couple of days. Doing the top and drain replacement myself saved me over $2500.
That's fantastic you were able to replace the top yourself. We were living in a condo at the time our top needed replaced, and with an upcoming move to the country we traded for a Ridgeline pickup. The Solara was in great shape compared to the Ridgeline but it wouldn't haul compost and gravel as well 😁. Hope you have a great weekend!
