I would take a serious look at the new Suzuki DR4 coming out before buying another KLX300. Good little bikes but down on power big time unless you can find the Japanese ECU that will work with this bike.
Do more videos on your klx300r
Im doing these mods to mine thanks. If you get that tuner make sure you do a video on the installation
Use the kdx snorkel
Which one is better first gen Durango or the second gen
Why not completely remove airbox cover?
I appreciate this video. Very informative.
I gotta 230r but same idea I just have a air cooled bike little less power but I’m gonna check this out tmr my bikes a little lighter so jumps don’t really have any issues but I hate getting gapped by 250’s im barley slower too
Where did u get your foot pegs
Where did u get your bigger foot pegs?
Stock works fine
Did you get tuner for this?
you shouldnt need a tune with a slip on, if its a carb bike you might need to change jets
garbage
Just cut the back side of the snorkel out (creates a window) to the air filter. Actually I think I works better than switching snorkels
Not all same type sensor work the same. On klx, by allowing more inlet air flow it actually runs richer.
Do you still have the stock exhaust? Would you sell it?
If you're reading this, JUST INCASE you do everything by the book, and your truck still does not turn on. It could be a bad lift pump that is located behind your filter housing (about $200) or a CP3 pump (about 1 hour and a half job to remove). Bad injectors could also be a culprit. So just an FYI to anyone reading this.
Did you have to change out the? Rear leaf, spring shackle hangers ? If so where did you get them ?
Take off the air box lid and throw it away. Take a look at any MX bike airbox and you will understand why. And no it will not lean out your bike and burn the piston. Only a bench racer will tell you that. Your EFI will compensate on it's own. I just bought a 2025 KLX300 to go along with my plated 21 WR450F. The first thing I'm doing is putting on a FMF Powercore and chucking the air box lid. I'll let you know if I burn a piston.
I dojt think efi can compensate though. They would need o2 sensors in the exhaust to do so. Thats why things like power commander are sold.
I bought a new WR450F but I am a fairly new rider. Goin to trade it in on a KLX300.
@@Rus-z2h i bought a 23 ktm 300 xcw 2 stroke as my first bike 😂😂😂
@@IForgeWeight oh man! Lol. Bet that was rough. The 450 kicked my butt.
@Rus-z2h yeah It's insane this bike is not for news riders lmao
Hi! Does this exhaust have a lambda sensor input? To be able to connect it to the klx 300 dual sport
Pull the lever Kronck........Wroooong leverrrrer
This removal of the snorkel is quite similar to the DRZ400 3X3 Mod to the air-box. Of course, doing that one would need to change the jet and needle in the carb. Yours has no carb, but is injected. You may need to have it flashed. The sparky-plug doesn't really look lean to me. It looks about right. But yes, keeping the plug darker means keeping the engine' combustion chamber cooler is a good thing. I think you are safe. Especially if it doesn't feel lean either.
Picking up mine on Saturday. Thanks for the pro tips! Do you notice any real problems after the mods? Thanks
How do you like the bike? Getting mine tomorrow morning.
Why is no one doing the full exhaust ? only the slip on pro circuit offers a full exhaust for this bike ?
Beautifully detailed!
You don't need to grease it they have a good enough seal just oiled and held on with the bolt
unrestricted airflow will cause an catastrophic engine failure on 4 stroke engines. Also, running it too rich in the same setup will make things worse. A engine with such low performance output will suffer from these mods more than you actually gain. But each their own.
Hey bro ,mine a sounds like a jet getting ready to take off,,,what it could be,, I just bought the truck is a 2008 ram 6.7 it looks like the fan clutch has reassunly changed
Any problems with the bike running lean? Any tunes needed? Also did it fit fine or did you need to make any changes to the mount?
No

Cool video. To the point, well done. I am gonna purchase a klx300r next week. Do you have a skid plate on that bike, and where did you get it? Thanks; Tony.
Cool cheap mods. And I like cheap. Anyhow, do those mods void the warranty? I am guessing you bought that bike new. Did you have to take it to the dealer for a xxxxxx mile checkup? Thank you.
Iv been telling people this for years on these KLX. They are not lean from the factory, too many people just repeat phrases they hear AND cant read a spark plug. Iv got 700 miles on my '24 with the snorkel out, more grunt and plug looks fine here.
The KLX comes in two states of tune. The 49 state tune. And the state of California tune. Mine was a 2021 California model. It definitely came from Kawasaki very lean. The combo of an EJK tuner, Uni air filter and cutting a larger hole in the air box made a noticeable power gain. That was with a modified stock exhaust. I later ran a complete exhaust system and readjusted the fuel tuner and it picked up another nice power gain. The stock air filter on the KLX is very restrictive. You can also free up some power by going to a high quality non O-ring chain. The klx300f is a way better bike than most people think it is. Do what you can to drop a little of its weight and it is a trail weapon.
@@bmotomo421interesting.. how did you find out yours was a California model?
@@italiansniper17 Well, for one, I bought it in California. Secondly, the California model has a big black box with a charcoal canister mounted behind the left side number plate.
I was wondering what the hell that was on some bikes@@bmotomo421
www.youtube.com/@lreed1963
Thank for the video! Great info! I have the same bike. Do you notice any decel pop? I hear some on straightways and was wondering if it’s normal.
Decel pop on this bike I’d normal. However if you remove the pair valve that will help with the decel pop. I have some other videos on my channel where I show how to delete it.
Thanks!!!
Fuel mixture and high compression is the reasons why European cars required higher octane fuel because the engine runs lean and hot so they have to prevent pre-ignition. It is regulation now that motor manufacturers have lean fuel settings whether it is chainsaws, lawnmowers and even large, diesel, tractors etc.
Yes, but keep this in mind if you hit some deep water at speed your engine will be toast.
Yes thank you for pointing that out. I’m more of a motocross and trail kind of person. I’m not much for the big mud holes or deep water crossings. Happy riding!
I've seen some replacement snorkels that let more air in, would this be a good option if I ride a lot in water crossings in your opinion? 50$ is still cheap if it protects my bike more than just removing it...
@@francistetrault7740yes, it would be better than nothing as the snorkel is put there for a reason. Even if you are washing your bike, you can saturate the air filter if you don't have a snorkel.
Wouldn't it be too rich to run it without the snorkel?
@@armzforte23no the opposite the Motor will run leaner. Also not using enough oil on the air filter can also upset the fuel mixture and make it run leaner. Any modification to the airbox or exhaust system will need carburettor fuel mixture tune either by the fuel mixture screw or the main jet being modified. In the case of this model Kawasaki with electronic fuel metering you will need a EJK otherwise you may overheat the engine or burn the exhaust valves.
Grey/black = rich ! White insulator = lean. A proper air:fuel mixture will result in a light-TAN colored center insulator (NOT grey/black, as you showed.)
My phone didn’t do much justice showing the plug. I’ve seen solid white plugs before indicating a lean mixture. This plug wasn’t bad at all. But it was black the way around before the mods. That I did not show but I did mention. Thank you for your feedback. Stay safe out their.
@@fferris723you are running rich not lean, rich as black fine powder, the plug should have dark brown tint too it, white is lean
If the bike was already lean, increasing all the air flow in the airbox and out the exhaust without increasing the fuel is making it even more lean. Common sense
Well. As I said. People talk about the bikes running lean. I never said it was running lean. The plug was black when I checked it before adding all the mods. I should have been more clear. What I learned is this machine was not running lean before the mods. And after putting the mods on, she did lean out a little. But like I said, it was not a red alert situation. The bike was not running super lean with the mods. Anyway hope the video helped and that you for your feedback.
Lost me at keepin it oem. Soooo much stuff on the 3rd gens have junk oem parts.
Did you end up having to get a fuel tuner? if so which one did you get?
Check out the last video I just posted!!! I’ll have to get a tuner but not sure what one I’m going to go with. to be continued!!!
@@fferris723 I just watched it. I hear a lot of people are using the EJK. I have a 2023 YZ250FX now and thinking of getting a KLX300R. I’m tired of doing a oil change every 2 rides.
has the bike got good power even with out the mods?
Yes had good power without the mods but a pipe is always fun to install and a blocked off air cleaner made no sense to me so the snorkel had to go. Bonus was an increase in power.
Makes sense to me, nice bike
I have the 2022 model and I installed a pro circuit t6 slip on it sounds great good compression and all..but my header pipe is stock and it glows red like bad is there anything I can do to fix that? Besides getting a aftermarket header
You will need to buy a programmer to richen up the air and fuel mixture. That will bring your combustion chamber temp down and should inturn stop your exhaust header from glowing red. Check out the last video I just posted. I haven’t bought a programmer yet but plan on it. A little info in that video that may help you. Stay safe out there!
I also have a 22 the dual sport version, and mine does the same thing. I have the EJK Tuner, Delkavic slip-on and the KDX snorkel. I was wondering if you can explain a specific adjustment I can make to the tuner that will remedy that issue? I obviously know nothing about the tuner but I called them and the person I spoke to said it's more or less a plug n play mod. I've been told otherwise so any pointers you can suggest would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I just wanna say that your DURANGO looks awesome, I have a 98 DURANGO and it sounds fairly simple to do this modification and your video is super informative. Thank you for showing what steps you took, you have inspired me to make the changes to my DURANGO and go from boring to badass 😎
Show me 2025konanhybread
I wouldn't recommend removing the airbox lid without fuel controller changes, like using an EJK. They are already very lean from the factory, opening the airbox will make it moreso
Iv done 3 of these, 2 with tuner/pipe and my latest one with just air snorkel removed. The spark plug never got lean on that one, ran darker rich on the tuners. Its just a myth everyone keeps repeating. If u want to find out, check your own spark plug
It's not a myth. It's not getting crazy lean, but still it's getting 6-8% more lean in open loop with snorkel off. That's according to Dyno and AFR measurements.
They make a pair valve block off plate so you would not even know it had one
@@d1amanwhen it goes into close loop, the AFR sensor can adjust the ratio. EJK tuner disables the AFR sensor. I think over all, it's better not to mess with factory fuel mapping
@@David-lq2xg ejk doesn't disable oxygen sensor unless you unplug it (which I don't recommend). If you don't unplug it, ejk then only amends open loop operations like full throttle or idle.
On the issue of CV Joints not even a concern, think about it if you are driving and turn L or R the angle is so much greater on the CV joint then any angle I see right now with the CV joint and the Lift I would be much more worried about the sway bar and the distance between it sitting static and when the suspension is topped out (IE tires off ground) Good video though very good job and well explained :)
Looks like u needed one more sub to reach 500 so I got u covered. 👍🏻
If I do 2” lift shackles and crank front tortion keys would I be able to fit 33s or 35s on welds and 1” spacers so they stick out a little bit more
Would 33 x 12.5s fit without lifting? Spacing? I* have 31 x 10.5 on my 99 SLT+ 5.9. I'd like the wider tires for Beach fishing!
