My theory is that ascension is not a good thing. While it may seem so, like a way to be released from the cycle that keeps them trapped on the planet, it... it isn't. The void disguises itself as the answer, the solution to everyone's problems, but in reality, ascending is merely a way to completely destroy the beautiful life upon the planet. When Saint, a slugcat, somehow manages to be "blessed" by the void and granted enlightenment, they are led to believe that their only purpose is to ascend everyone and everything that they want. They are given power that they had never before had. So they use it. They "free" Pebbles and Moon (as I have said many times before, Saint never left the facility grounds, so Pebbles and Moon were the ONLY iterators that Saint ever ascended). But the speeches from the echoes tell them otherwise. So Saint attempts to seek answers by going to the void, now confused and unable to tell apart the truth from reality, unable to tell which side of the argument is being manipulative. The void, seeing that Saint has started to realise that it is lying to them, decides that it should just kill off Saint instead. Saint, rather than the remains of the depths, finds themselves in Rubicon. But eventually, Saint makes their way to the distorted Iterator can. And then Moon and Pebbles are gone. Wiped from existence. Feeling a sense of dread, like something is wrong, Saint swims upwards through the void sea. They see everything, and finally realise that they have been manipulated. So, rebelling against the void, they do something that they will learn to regret. They attempt to ascend the void worm. But not only does this not work, it also gets Saint punished. They are completely drained of their karma, and swept by the current into the empty expanse of white void. Slowly and painfully, their body is warped and shifted as they are transformed halfway into an echo. Instead of being made into a full echo or just full-on ascending, they are made a mix between alive and dead. They are trapped inside a twisted limbo of imaginings, memories, and suffering, and wake up in the place of where they were cursed by the void into enlightenment, shivering in the cold.

Is there anyway to get bubble weed without going to submerged superstructure? i have looked at the map and i cant find any spots where there's bubble weed in shoreline and i assume there's none in rubicon. edit nvm i found a spot next to the entrance to submerged.

Was wondering if someone ever bothered to optimize Saint. And you did! This is a work of art, and hopefully it someday gets appreciated more (actually no, hopefully your new record gets the appreciation, since I’d like to think this isn’t the end)

I wonder if the ending is supposed to mirror Lucifer’s fall from grace; Saint, a prized disciple of karma broke their oath by attempting to ascend a void worm. This led to their fall from grace (as seen by how the karma level rapidly drops) and them transforming into an echo (much as how Lucifer transformed into Satan)

Your runs are so fun to watch, keep it up! Also Saint is the best campaign by far imo.

Well at least saint is a unique echo I think. Because others were attached to mortal realm while Saint is only attached to himself. That is why he can enter the void and leave the point of no return. Other echoes were MORE attached to physical while ones who ascend completely abandoned it while Saint didn't do both of these. He is true neutral between void and land because he dont chose any side. Saint is a carrier while other creatures are passengers
