    What’s the legality with a +1 joining the lineout?

    • @lineoutlab
      @lineoutlab หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question. Sometimes its unclear!!! Technically, they can only move and enter lineout once the ball has left the throwers hands.....but it doesnt always look that way!

    For most of Irelands throws the hooker had his feet inside the field of play. The ball should have been turned.over to NZ for option. Law 18.22. The throw was illegal therefore everything that occured after that was irrelevant.

    • @lineoutlab
      @lineoutlab ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been happening for years. A lot of throwers get away with it. Like any of the laws, open to interpretation but could be enforced more?!

    Great stuff, helpful for my own learning as a player. Would also love to see an analysis of the Black Ferns vs Red Roses in the Womens World Cup final. Commentator was saying he was surprised NZ didn’t compete at the LO more. Why didn’t they all the time?

    • @lineoutlab
      @lineoutlab ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment and watching. Ive not seen the whole game yet, but I guess they were hoping to defend the maul by not going up which clearly was a struggle so they took a gamble that last play and it paid off. Perhaps they could have started competing earlier but a certain try if they didn't win it. Great show of courage to change mentality

    a very unique and exceptional player to have this energy, I agree have a guy like this on your team or more than 1 is a huge morale boast, you can feel it n the field! Secondly, going in the the poach is an art some are just great at, many are not and cause excessive penalties or gaps in defense - especially at my lower level amateur mens level of play. Lastly, I have to say knowingly going into the low poach postion as a hard commit is often in a match a very vulnerable position and not for the faint of heart players I have observed in my playing years....lets you be open for some hard retaliation hits once you commit to it. Excellent video all around!!!

    • @lineoutlab
      @lineoutlab ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comments and for watching Aaron. Agree all around! Will be interesting to see how this skill evolves in coming years if any law amendments

  • @coachpg

    Good clip. Looked like SA offered Ireland the front - no defensive jump threats there - prrobably with intent to drive them over sideline as they tried, or Marx and winger to deal with peel to front. Seems a legit defence strategy, esp given SA strength at drive and risk of no space to recover if contest in air or sack is missed. Maybe Marx could have joined quicker to help keep front corner forward and buy time. Also guys who joined from the back could have hit lower for better impact, think sumo. But it was small margins and fast work both teams.

    • @lineoutlab
      @lineoutlab ปีที่แล้ว

      Would agree Paddy, not much in it, probably wouldn't change a huge amount. Good work by JVDF

    Me as a sbok supporter..as you all know the refs stole the game from sboks again,its ok if you mad and say all kinds off stuff we sboks must stop blame refs and bla,bla,bla..sorry we not going to stop a real fact with real true evidences.all is recorded so go watch it and see the truth....ok then to this clip and where others is right,but we fans also complain....the sboks oponents already knew what sboks gona do it only 3things...,scrum,kick ball away specially from.9,and drive maul from mostly lineouts..now bec off that other teams encounter it and starts getting better and then this happened sa dont know what to do...they do it better the sa and encounter sa....we begged rassie since 2019 before wc to stop no.9 kicking game and get plan B,C,D its to predictable...when JN,"took over"i think he play under rassies instructions but took the blames it got more worce....all previous coaches since 1996,was stuborn and aroganr as much as we love rassie he is doing the same people already ask them both to go.....,but it has nothing to do with the 5onesided errors in front off all refs involved costing the game for sa...you cant say the boks played bad and ireland deseved it but the refs stole the game..its all about winning even a ugly win is a win....

  • @chrismonaghan390

    Great stuff Pete - really looking from a coaching perspective to set Lineout Maul Defence up how to resource and stop - massively impressed with Irelands 2 pod system against SA almost binding as a scrum..? Any thoughts?

    • @lineoutlab
      @lineoutlab ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching Chris and your comment. Yeah its much like a scrum on attack and defence so some of the same principles apply in terms of winning the hit and height. Then work rate. The first lineout v SA last week shows how they try and break up the front wall by pulling the back lifter whereas the goal line (5m) shows how they win the hit knocking them off balance and then how POM and Ryan disrupt combined with the work rate of hitting together and regenerating when their impact was negated

    Is that technically a breach of pre latch law which only allows one pre latch?

    • @lineoutlab
      @lineoutlab ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment and for watching Ed. I'd say it is the way the game/law is now. Its one of those aspects that is not thought of when the laws are amended. That law is primarily aimed at the ruck and pick and go. This try happens so quickly that its unlikely to be called for an infringement. Good eye

    NZ jumped across and made contact with Irish jumpers with impunity - it seemed to me - but the usual authoritative and decisive control by Ireland was largely absent. Everything seemed hesitant or tentative.

    • @lineoutlab
      @lineoutlab 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. They got away with it for sure. Same as closing the gap but to be fair everyone does it. Yeah, hard to pinpoint why...most people blaming Ryan. I do think they should go quicker like the last clip I show.

    • @lineoutlab
      @lineoutlab 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and your comment. Apologies for the delay I didnt get a notification for this comment. From this game, it didnt seem to be a factor at the tail. Ireland were very good at giving the front of the lineout and defending the middle and back which made it a challenge for NZ to get a good platform. They used their SH to back lift (2 as a tailgunner) on occasion making it a 7v6.

    Not that I want to be on the receiving end but how do the Bok's get Kolbe into the game? Heard a discussion saying they had to for the 2nd test but no clear plan how. We were good about not kicking to him in general and the balls not getting to him on phase play - is he reduced to chasing kicks and intercepts like his predecessor Bryan Hybana?
