The Traveling Dork
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 3 ก.ค. 2018
Join me in my adventures of figuring out how to build out my van on my own, random weird outbursts of dancing, photo tips for cell phone photographers, probably some ridiculous stories, some inspirational thoughts, and more than likely TMI from time to time as well as going from a sad and lonely divorced empty nester lady to finding love, music, and adventure in the Arizona desert on an epic self-discovery journey and then buying an RV with my boyfriend!
All in all - this is going to be an adventure and you are welcome to join me. Or not.
But if you don't, you'll be sad. Like REALLY sad.
So sad you probably croak and they will put it on your gravestone "Died of sadness because he/she/they didn't follow that dork's TH-cam" - and of course it is going to cost you way more because that is a lot of text for a gravestone and your family could use that money for a cool vacation after you are gone and all you had to do was follow this dorky channel.

Arizona "Haboob" Dust Storm and High Winds in an RV! | #rvlife #weather #duststorm #boondocking
Just thought I would pop in to take you inside of our RV in this current wind and dust storm that has brought a bit of a Haboob out here in the Arizona desert and show you what it is like to be rockin in the wind during a storm like this.
Very thankful it wasn't worse and the only real damage we got was lots of dust inside from the slides and lack of decent window seals (we really need to fix that...) and a slide awning that flapped around too much and broke so we can't roll it back up until Cy fixes it again.
This storm hit hardest during the night and we didn't get much sleep and then I was home alone with Toby all day watching the dust in the daylight and wiping down the windows, bed, pillows, couch...everything - from the dust that just never stopped inviting itself inside.
Seems to be calming down now and I am very thankful that we didn't get wind gusts strong enough to topple us and I am pretty sure I never want to feel this kind of wind on our rig ever again!
Thanks for following along and subscribing.
If you want to keep up with my life - I post more on Facebook than here so feel free to pop over and see what we are up to there!

Minivan Camper Build | Creating the Floor for Kaya's 2008 Toyota Sienna
มุมมอง 7015 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video, we share how we built out Kaya's floor in her 2008 Toyota Sienna with the help of our dear friend Andy (who was in a cast at the time and still managed to help us and teach us new skills!) We had to deep clean the van first, as Kaya got it off of Facebook Marketplace and it came with all kinds of yuck in the carpet and under the floor where the stow-and-go seats used to be before...

Nice setup very orderly and looks comfortable
I’m watching mini van rv TH-cam getting ideas so that when it’s my turn to build my rv I’ll sorta know what I want. And I just LOVE your RV!!! There are so many ideas that I want to incorporate into mine!!! I love your testimony of how van life saved your life…I am SO PROUD of you. Thanks for your transparency! May our paths cross some day
Love your home but what about cooking? bathroom?
Hello! Thank you for visiting and the question! I don't cook on the road. I spent a lot of money on all of the "kitchen stuff" when I first started and found that my eating style is more of a "Grazer" and I was spending a lot of time and effort making meals because I thought it was what you were supposed to do in van life. I eat small amounts through the day - morning fruits/yogurt or toast. Lunch - sandwich/salads/fruit/veggies/smoked salmon etc and for dinner - sometimes a pasta salad or healthy ready made meal from a deli or I will treat myself to a meal out for something like pasta or mexican/thai food because the leftovers last me 2-3 days and the $15 I spend on the one meal - really is $5 a meal because I eat it for a few days. I invested in a little hot logic food warmer that I can put small portions into and heat up my leftovers or I will find a truck stop and microwave it. I work full time remotely and tend to stealth camp in cities more than out in the wilderness when I am doing van life - and I have steady income so I like to support small mom and pop/local shops and businesses when I am in town and it also gives me an opportunity to meet people, have conversations with wait staff, and plug a few dollars into the economy of the area if I dine in a place that is not a big chain or fast food. When I want a home cooked meal, I will treat myself to an Airbnb that has a kitchen and make myself some food to pack into my cooler for the week. :) My bathroom? I have an emergency portable toilet for #2 but have yet to use it in 3 years. For #1 - originally I used a glass mason jar and cleaned it daily but now I have a variety of female urinal devices I use that are much more comfortable. :) I have videos about both of those situations on here somewhere if you want to dig through my videos. Hope that answers your questions! Thanks for asking!
Oh my young lady you have really got it all together the supper cool place at my age of 83 takes me back to the hippie days ok🎉😂❤
It was super fun building it out and finding all of the fun ways I could add color! I'm a 70's baby - my momma was a hippie and it's apparently in my DNA. ;)
🥳🥳🥳
Thank you!
I really like your colorful van. I wish you many adventures ❣️🎉
Wow I love your van I’m a colorful person too
Thank you! It makes such a huge difference to my mental health and general joy in life to surround myself with color!! Sometimes I don't even drive anywhere, I just go lay on my bed in the van and stare at the ceiling and enjoy being enveloped by rainbows. :)
This made my day! It looks amazing but please tell me how did you manage to get the fairy lights up there? Love your van, you are just so clever and creative 🧡🧡🧡
Thank you! I got the fairy lights that have a wire so I just wrapped the wire around the corkscrew pins I used to put the ceiling up with. :) It was really easy. I made a random pattern moving from one to the next so that the whole ceiling had some fairy light love.
Oh that makes sense! You are so creatively clever 🧡🧡🧡
Was there a stove?
Nope. :) I don't cook on the road. I realized it was much easier to just eat simple for breakfast/lunches and often my dinners were raw veggies, smoked salmon or a piece of baked or fried chicken from a deli, fresh salads in bags with some protein thrown in etc. I'm a grazer - I eat little bits here and there through the day so cooking a meal just made it more complicated. I also tend to stealth camp in cities or small towns and I will treat myself to a nice meal at some local mom and pop shop and support a small business while I let someone else make me my dinner and then keep the leftovers in the cooler and warm up what I want to eat in my hot logic while on the road the next day and that one "eating out meal" usually feeds me for 2-3 dinners. I tend to eat fruit for breakfast or yogurt, lunch is basic sandwich or meat/cheese/crackers and dinner depends on my mood. :)
That's so funny I seen those in the stores in St Augustine last summer they're actually collectors items and only get more valuable as time goes on❤ I love what you've done with the van I'm about to do something similar with mine and hit the road.... I wasn't born for the 9 to 5:00.... I was born to play in the dirt and collect rocks and be free❤❤
YES! I got Matt-A-Dor in St Augustine at that little shop! It was hard to choose which one but he just spoke to me. He's still back there, riding around enjoying my adventures with me!
Amen dear sister! The smile manifests from within. Yours most definitely does! Be safe out there. Congrats with you partner. Stay strong and encouraged.
Thank you so much! I am smiling as I type!
Lol
It just had to happen.
Welcome back 😊
Thank you! I miss connecting with you all! Hope you are well!
Good to see you back! I had a park model in Yuma for a winter place, so I know about the desert dust…but I loved it out there! I hope your allergies improve for you soon 😊
Thank you! I have to take a break a few times a week from the dust and the doggy dander but working through it all one day at a time. Hope you are well!
Ohhh! I just love your beautiful home! So comfy and cozy looking! Love your personality too! Blessings to you sweet girl!
Thank you so much! You really made my day!
Good to see you again. Thanks for insight, hope never run into something like that 😮
Hey there! Happy to be back! Hope you never do either! It's really not a good time! HAHA :)
IN AMERICA WE HAVE DUST STORMS.
We sure do! Especially in the desert. :)
You don't have your mini van anymore
Oh yes, I still have my van and do solo trips in her every once in a while but having a boyfriend and a giant dog required an RV ;) so we can all live together. I do solo trips in my van now and again and she's still running strong. :)
You can add a momentary switch back near the actuator and wire it in to the solenoid. Air up the coach and use it while parked when doing your lubricating maintenance, it works great.
Oh wow!! Thank you!!
I have just watched your video. I laughed so hard, I really needed that today! I think you are very creative and I would have probably tackled it the same way! It looks great!
Thank you! Glad you got a chuckle. It's still up there!! Holding strong - no matter how many times I smack my head on the ceiling! HAHA :)
Such a cute little home! Love it!!
Thank you! I love it in there. I spend time in there just reading and enjoying my own living space now and again even when I am not in it full time!
Is this still going on, and if so, when is it?
Yes!! It's every Sunday! I believe at 1pm or 3pm.
Still going! It's every sunday!
I loved it so colourful thanks for sharing,
Thank you!! Color makes my heart smile!
Love your minivan ,you have made it so bright and colourful and it looks great. You sound such a lovely person and I wish you many happy journeys. Just love the beautiful tapestry and lights on your ceiling .Take care and stay safe .🥰🌺🦋🐎🐝🌹❤️🐝xx😮❤
Thank you so much! Much love to you my friend!
Hi friend it’s jeni Jen shampoo here!! Beautiful van!!
Hello!!! Thank you!!
Very pretty, how does everyone make a living on the road?
Thank you! I have a full time remote job - where I can work from anywhere as the creative director, marketing manager for a company that sells 3D printers and laser cutters online. :)
How did you put the tapestry up securely to the roof. I've got one I wanted to do similar with, without it falling down.
I made a video for that - you can see how I turned myself into a human pretzel here: th-cam.com/video/itlpKvD101w/w-d-xo.html
I saw someone with a portable toilet from Amazon
Yep! They are pretty handy. I mostly use my female urinal devices for myself. Haven't had to use the emergency #2 toilet yet thankfully - so far have made it to a public restroom for that business.
Y2K vibes !
HAHA how so?! Curious minds want to know! I actually still have a Y2K pamphlet that was passed out on the street back in 1999 that warned of pulling all of your money out of the bank, stock piling food and making sure you had your babies before the clock turned over if you wanted to have your baby in a hospital vs a dark, no electricity home because the world was going to end!
I had a very similar experience. Thank you for your channel. I love my van.
Much love dear one.
Very cool!! ❤
Thank you!
The drums sounded lovely. ❤
It does!! The whole experience was incredible!
Keep the medicine and vitamins in the fridge or at keast in an isolated bag. The car heats up
That is a great tip. Living in WA it wasn't so much of a concern but down here in Arizona - it is!
Awesome van and you are just a beautiful soul ✌️😎
Thank you so much!
Drove through Ely in JUNE 2019. it got below 30 F and was to cold to sleep in my car. The motel in found wasn't much better either
Yeah. That would not be a good time. I was glad I was there in July!
She need to let that hair go…
Really? I am not sure why you feel the need to tell someone how to wear their hair. It makes her happy, why would it need to go?
So fun! Thank you for putting a smile on my face this morning ❤
Thanks for watching! <3
Thank you for sharing your story. ❤
Thank you for taking the time to listen. Much love to you.
Love ya van & the vibe it gives!
Thank you so much!
You are a massive inspiration!!!! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much!
you are a real Role Model......very sexy on the inside and outside.....Thank you....Dave in lreland
I love your place, I love color too!
Color is everything! Thank you!
@@thetravelingdork I'm currently doing up a van I'll show you mine when it's done. Have a great day xx
❤
Back atcha!
I am sorry that you felt that way and glad you're still here and that you found yourself and are sharing your spark with the rest of us and keep dancing and keep spreading your specialness with the world.
Thank you so much
Beautifully decorated and organized.. and you have a pleasant voice ❤
Thank you!
You two are so cute! Love your energy and that you spent some here charging. I live here! ❤
Thank you! I sure do have a lot of fun with this guy!
To keep the heat out in extreme temps, like at Burning Man, I put reflective outside my vehicle windows. Not pretty and certainly not stealth, but it made a big difference. I used a lot of blue tape to hold it on during dust storms and it held. .
Oh that is a great idea!
I think the thought of ending your life is the lowest place one can get. I can't imagine anything that could be worse than that. You've been there and came out the other side. I'm proud of you! There is nothing you can't do! God bless!
Thank you!
