      @stevenpowers546 '62 is a weird set for me. I never cared much for it, but think many of the HOF cards look fantastic, so I've come around on it. Some of the common players' cards have poor photos and look drab. So I'm sticking to the main guys and happy to have them. Good luck with your quest and thank you for watching!

    Beautiful Seaver cards. When I was a kid in the 80s we woukd see tons of topps, but did not see a lot of fleer or donruss. I wonder why that was. Great share of Seaver. Enjoyed

      @VintageBaseballCorner 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @vintagecardssteve8582 Both were especially tough for us too, especially Donruss. It seems Donruss may have cut back on their print runs in '84, maybe because of low sales the first few years? Not sure, maybe Topps just had a more established and better distribution system?

    That was an odd beginning for Tom! My favorite Seaver card is easily the RC. I feel like I'm in the minority based on the sentiment on TH-cam on multi-player RCs but I think they're all great. Even the floating heads! For the ones you have, I'd pick the 1974 Topps. The 9's you have are ridiculous but that 1974 you have is a great copy. Nice stuff, Chris!

    • @VintageBaseballCorner
      @VintageBaseballCorner 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I also like the multi-player RC's, though some not as much as others. It was a way for Topps to include more players that hadn't made much of an impact to that point. The players that got a solo RC are usually ones that played almost a full season the year before. Seaver debuted in 1967, so he could have easily been left out until '68! And I do love the '74 as well. Great action shot with the crowd in the background! Thanks for watching again. I do appreciate your comments.

    Looking through this episode and saw the 1959 N.L. Hit Kings card featuring the Phillies Richie Ashburn and the NY Giants Willie Mays. In August of 1957 Ashburn was at bat at a home game in Philadelphia and fouled a pitch back in to the stands which hit a woman, Alice Roth, in her nose, breaking it. The game was halted and she was placed on a gurney. As she was being carried by medics down the row the game restarted. Ashburn fouled the first pitch off and it struck her in her knee, breaking a bone. Feel free to check out the veracity of this event. It’s impossible to make this stuff up. Terry Farmer

    Man, you crushed that Puckett and so many others. You've convinced me to go back to PSA. SGC is ignoring their own grading standards and ignoring eye appeal. They are punishing cello, wax, factory set and vending-fresh, 50/50 centered copies of any hall of famer or star RC from this era. I regret around 50 PC cards now that would have easily been 1-2 full grades higher at PSA. I'll do a video featuring them all one day. I may even join the Collector's Club and start sending mini-bulk orders. Especially if they have a special on Crossovers or Reviews. You and your buddies are nailing it, Chris!

    • @VintageBaseballCorner

      Thanks! I haven't seen any specials on Crossovers or Reviews. Just fyi Nice Ken McMullen RC, btw. What a stunner! That's some serious funny money! Plus that Rose guy was pretty good too. Part of our success has been me spending way too much time reviewing cards, plus the right equipment and lighting to do so. A lot of cards get rejected, or at minimum expectations muted a bit. That said, at times, my "pre-grade" has been low. I think too much at times. Then again, I wasn't expecting 7s on the '75s from the vintage sub, so nothing is exact. ha ha Ultimately grading is still someone's opinion that day, whether at PSA or SGC. There will always be subjectivity on vintage cards.

My 75 set is in a binder, so I never noticed the color pattern for the all-star designated cards. Not sure why they made the exceptions for Aaron and how they missed Reggie Jackson. My only thought is that perhaps different designers/artists worked on different cards, and they didn't "get the memo" or as they designed the cards, they had several other projects going on at the same time and they simply missed it. Topps quality control at the time was undoubtedly a lot looser than it is today. As you know, back then the target consumer was us kids but it's great to look back with a new perspective and set of eyes. I am also not sure why they "blanked" out that face on the Cubs TC. Perhaps they had problems getting the player signed prior to final design of the card or simply a printing error. Maybe a fan "photo-bombed" the picture and Topps picked it up. Cubs TCs have often been interesting and different from other TCs in the sets. I recall the "floating head" designs such as in 71, 72, 78 etc. where Topps seemingly had problems getting them all together at the same time for a photo or problems getting everyone in the picture under contract - not sure. The 76 Bench is one of my favorites as well. I don't think Johnny has a bad card, but he is best represented when shown in action at defense (such as 76 and 73). As a lifelong Mets Fan Mr. Grote is one of my favorites. It is sad news about his passing but it's a nice memory to see him in his Mets uniform on that 75 card.

      I didn't recognize the common colors of the All-Stars until a year ago or so when I started filling up the AS Registry. Crazy how some things are right in front of you and you still miss it!

      @blixcards Thanks! Overall, it was a good sub, minus a few of the '75s. But, hey I'm not perfect. The Rice is indeed gorgeous! I thought the earlier cards going back to 1960, in Part 1 got even better results, which was a nice surprise.

    Do you think taking a paper trimmer to the Hank Aaron Hostess would benefit the grade?

    • @VintageBaseballCorner
      @VintageBaseballCorner 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Collectwhatyoulike At this point no I don't think so, because the cut is already just into the lines on the right side. It would be tough to cut the rest of that side closer and keep the cut straight. Originally, yes, it would have been better. At least I don't think I could be that precise based on how it is now!

      '75-'84 is kind of my jam. Ha. But even as a kid, I liked players from the 50s and 60s even though I had not seen them play. The stories behind the game were always interesting to me. That's what I'm trying to share here, in addition to cards. Thanks for watching!

    i so agree about the OPC !! They are so much more rare, and so much more impossible to get in 8-10 grade. I actually just bought a 1979 OPC pack on its way from BBCE. Another awesome video, as much fun as part 1. I am also a big fan of hostess and kelloggs cards, so one of my fav from this submission is the Hostess Aaron

      Glad you enjoyed it! I picked up a cheap box of '83 OPC cards at an Estate Sale recently. They seemed to be mint. I'll dig thru them soon, but I'm thinking Gwynn and Sandberg are not in there. I think time will be the friend the OPC cards need. As they continue to get older, I believe people will learn to appreciate them more. For now, there are a lot of collectors who don't value anything past the 1960s.

    OK I just saw your video and had to say that I had never heard that Barry wanted to sign with the Yankees. I assume this was in 2007 when his contract with the Giants had come to an end. Barry had a great year in 2007 and didn't want to retire. But the Giants were under tremendous pressure from MLB to not renew his contract due to the outcry over the PED issue.

    • @VintageBaseballCorner
      @VintageBaseballCorner 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jacksteinberg2150 I had never heard it as well. I think I was off on the timeline a bit because the visit with Willie was in 2002. But it came from Willie's mouth. If I had to guess, it could have been something as simple as Barry thinking aloud or just asking for family advice, rather than actual negotiations. I recall being surprised to hear it, but being thoroughly entertained by how he told the story. I wasn't going to grill him on the details, of course. I hope you enjoyed the video.

      @@VintageBaseballCorner Oh I was way off then because I forgot about Willie having said this in 2002. It may have been in reference to one of Barry's contract negotiations with the Giants.

    • @VintageBaseballCorner
      @VintageBaseballCorner 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jacksteinberg2150 That's my fault because I was thinking from memory that it was near the end of Bonds career and stated something to that effect in the video. Obviously, 2002 would have meant it was a little earlier.

    • @jacksteinberg2150
      @jacksteinberg2150 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@VintageBaseballCorner Barry must have discussed with Willie the possibility of joining the Yankees after his contract with the Giants expired. Willie put the kibosh on that idea. Hence the remark about going to the Yankees would tarnish his legacy.

    • @VintageBaseballCorner
      @VintageBaseballCorner 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jacksteinberg2150 That's kinda what Ive cleaned from it, especially after looking at the timeline and looking back. But the biggest thing I got was how Willie told the story, almost like he was chiding a young kid. Which I'm sure is at least partially how he saw Barry, even as an adult.
