Joachim Kaiser wrote in his book on the Beethoven sonatas and theis interpreters that this interpretation is wrong if one looks at the origin of the first movement in an early piano quartett of Beetoven ("mechanical motorics", not consistent with the origin in the piano quartett). However, after not recording this sonata for more nearly 30 years, Gilels recorded it again only in 1981, in the Jesus-Christus-Kirche in Berlin-Dahlem. From all Beethoven recordings Gilels did during the last five years of his life, this is by far the most remarkable one. Building on the versions recorded in 1952 (are there two or only one?), he gave a very coherent interpretation of this not very coherent sonata that puts it in a valid form in the context of Beethoven sonatas experimenting with early romanticism (16-18, op. 31). Kaiser critique applies to this later interpretation to a much lesser degree. Thanks for letting me hear this recording.
❤
I think there are barely pianists able to play with such resolution today in this world I respect master Cherkassky
Beautiful.
Delight upon delight!
What wonders when two such musicians come together - and then it is posted!
Bravo!
Ri-di-cu-lous-ly fast impossible to understand anti musical not respectful of the author ! A true shame
beautiful!
Genius
Gorgeous playing
Piano roll ?
Legendarny historicky klavirista, ktorý hral v celom živote rôžne Bachove skladby!

Wunderbar! May her memory stay in music lovers' hearts for ages!
Magical
Гениальный!
Thank you for uploading this!
amazing! Padderewsky's chopin is standard.
Marvellous! Love the old photos as well. Thank you! ❤️
Omg, what treasures we missed after Dinu was so tragically taken from us so soon... Imagine his Liszt Sonata 😢
Scarlatti had this ability to fuse the incredibly sweet and plaintive. Divinity itself
A much better version than the 1948's
In his probing survey Great Pianists of our Time, the German critic Joachim Kaiser placed Rubinstein first (Backhaus second) and to explain why he analyzed this recording. Rubinstein himself left several other performances going back to the lively ‘30s with Barbirolli. I heard him live with his underrated friend Alfred Wallenstein. Yet here with his brilliant fellow Pole everything came together, even RCA’s balance which, at Rubinstein’s insistence, usually made his piano too prominent. By the way, Skrowaczewski, Kletski and others have done justice to Chopin’s orchestral writing without getting glacially mannered, like Zimerman in his second recording. Rubinstein, of course, is wonderfully natural too. Thanks for sharing without ads.
Exquisite video! Beautifully played by Mme Tureck!
A tad on the quick side. Meticulously done, however.
Michelangeli 's touch is something else.
Perfection in every note.
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
There will never be a more ferocious and passionate rendering of the Rhapsodie Espagnole than this!
So happy this gem is on the internet for the world to hear! Thanks for sharing!
He played Chopin's miniatures with such delight and unsurpassed attention to detail.
How would you rate this one alongwith Katsaris' interpretation
Музыка передаёт нежную беседу Ромео и Джульетты
Exemplary professional traversal of the score. Nothing eye/ear opening here. Everything's in place.
What an exceptional pianist he was, never has the melody been sung that well in the doppio movimento
2:23 :/
What a beautiful tone... Disliked by many, loved by others. I love it.
ABMs Rach 4 convinced ToneBase TH-camr (and PhD pianist, Julliard) to strive to be like Michelangeli. Ben has taken it into competition, and continues to champion this brilliant work above the composer's more popular concerti. What is the source of ABMs magic? One leading possibility is this: his fingering! In the most rapid passages. It's electrifying! For me there's something of a more romantic styled Glenn Gould to Arturo's bravado.
Кажется, что так звучит душа, а не какой-то музыкальной инструмент...
Шура Черкасский находится на недосягаемой высоте интерпретации музыки по одной простой причине: в нём нет ни одной капли душевой фальши.
Best record of any Schubert piece ever. In some sonatas several pianists are good, but here Gilels is so wonderful. Unsurpassed.
Great performance! He was still very young here!
Grazie,Gino.Bellissimo.
Great rendition of this wonderful Chopin Nocturne. Never heard this piece before by Cherkassky. Thanks for uploading.🎹🙏
Best Interpretation of this
The inimitable Shura Cherkassky at his very best!!
