Diving Sudan 1996

1996 Diving adventure in Sudan on board 'Al Kabir', a converted mine sweeper, surplus from the Dutch Navy. Includes a 52 m dive on the wreck of the 'Blue Bell'. Probably the best diving sites we have ever seen, with many sharks, barracudas, stingrays, dolphins, etc. Remember this was almost 30 years ago, diving was very different then, with less care for nature preservation and safety in genera...

Diving trip to Lembeh and Manado from 26/03/2024 to 17/04/2023. We stayed at Thalassa Lembeh and Lumbalumba Manado, two first class dive resorts. Lots of amazing small creatures, incredible colors and many friendly turtles on Bunaken island. But don't expect big things, this ain't Raja Ampat... ;-)

Test flight of the 3D printed PlanePrint Seagull, modified for a 50mm EDF in 3S. 150cm span, 650g AUW, 3S Lipo 1600mAh, 300W. Easy takeoff even with zero headwind, comfortable climbs, rolls, loops, immelmann and even inverted flight are possible! I found the best CG is when the 'bird' balances with the beak slightly down, just a bit in front of the printed line. This bird flies great as long as...

4 Sepias in Oesterdam
We saw 4 Sepias on July 22 2022 during a shallow dive at 'Oesterdam' (Bergse diepsluis), in Zeeland (The Netherlands). These beautiful creatures were laying eggs in one of the 'tents' on the left side from the stairs, about 35m out and at a depth of 9m at high tide. Other divers even reported seahorses at the same location, but we couldn't see any because the visibility was quite poor.

Crazy good
Ukrainian Banderite scum camouflage, you must have some brain damage to chose this.
Beauty!
Truly unique aircraft ! Do you use HT or regular LW-PLA?
Thank you! I use 99% LW PLA. HT is not required, nor recommended.
This plane sucks so much that it needs a whell chair to lift 😅🤣
Nice; thinking about adding a Thrust Vector Nozzle ?!?!

Absolutely, it would be better to leave the fish alone. But then we should ban fishing, which is even worse. Any diving, especially at night, will unavoidably disturb the marine life, but it also brings awareness about the ecosystems. I think it is an acceptable trade-off. If you are lucky enough to dive in Lembeh, you will see that the guides touch and move a lot of stuff, which would be forbidden elsewhere. But since people dive in this area, the locals take better care of the sea, so the balance is largely positive. We follow the indications of the local guides because they know what can and cannot be done in their area.
@@laurentschmitz2832 keep your hands to yourself, period. Look and don't touch ...and don't get so dramatic, the only acceptable trade-off is you dive and keep your distance. If you see guides touching and moving things in Lembeh or elsewhere tell them off, instead of copying bad behaviours.
Absolutely beautiful and so relaxing to watch thank you
Hammerhead?
No hammerheads on this trip. We saw some in Sudan and in Socorro, but not in the Maldives.
Toutes ces espèces, toutes ces couleurs ! Magnifique !
Nice job Laurent!
Une extension indispensable : th-cam.com/video/TiLLjoPNW_0/w-d-xo.html 😄
Great! Guess, this is the one you showed me at InterEx 23 in Macy? It was a pity, that you were not there on sunday, or i simply missed you.
Cool! Love it 😍
C'est beau ! On voit vraiment des poissons étonnants (3:10).
Watch, dont touch, you MF!
Sehr schönes Video.
❤️
I enjoyed this, until you poked marine life with a torch!!! Why does anyone think that's OK?
I agree, so unnecessary. They shouldn't disturb so much!
I completely agree; according to the code of conduct for divers you are not allowed to touch of disturb animals or plants.
Particularly not ok with critically endangered species like Angel Sharks... 🤦♂
Looks like a wicked night dive
Thanks for sharing your footage. I've snorkeled Xcalak and Cozumel, what I noticed is that Xcalak, though the coral heads were beautiful, was full of lionfish and had very few schools of smaller fish, and much less marine life in general. Thank you for removing the lionfish.
Erg mooi! Ik wil weer terug :-D
Mooie beelden, goede montage.
Great footage! I didn't realise the wildlife was so rich down there.
Belles images, avec parfois des créatures surprenantes. Du bon matos derrière tout ça. La murène n'a pas l'air cool du tout...
Merci Laurent! ;-)
So beautiful
nice one Laurent! thanks for sharing! regards from ILIKE Crew
Geweldig
Thank you! Here is how it works: The body is made of two 20 liters plastic containers, the kind used for wiper fluid or distilled water. It contains a small (3 liter) 230 Bar scuba tank and an old regulator. At the bottom of the containers there is also 8kg lead ballast. At the top there is a quick purge, the kind you find on a BCD, attached to the cap. Pull the quick purge, the air escapes and the system goes down. Slowly in the beginning, then faster and faster. The pistons of two large medical syringes are connected to the purge button on the regulator. When the system goes down, the increasing pressure pushes the pistons in the syringes and the regulator button gets pressed. This happens at a predefined depth, depending on the amount of air in the syringes. When the container fills with air, the whole contraption becomes buoyant again and drifts back to the surface. The pressure decreases and the pistons slide back, which cuts the airflow from the regulator. Each cycle to a depth of 15m uses about 50 liters air, so you can dive 10-12 times on a full tank. Of course you can dive deeper but it uses more air. In fact, at a depth of 15m you are heavy enough to 'freefall' to the bottom, so there is little point in letting the system go deeper. The system is back at the surface long before the diver turns back. Check the pictures here: users.telenet.be/freediving/images/1r.jpg users.telenet.be/freediving/images/3r.jpg users.telenet.be/freediving/images/4r.jpg WARNINGS: 1. The VWT system must be connected to a diving line, otherwise it will wander when drifting back to the surface and potentially bump into a freediver. Check the two stainless steel eyes on the side (picture 1). 2. VWT diving gives you no second chance if you can't equalize your ears because you descent much faster than in CWT. Immediately abort the dive if your ears don't equalize. 3. When deep diving or in bad visibility, use a second diving line and buoy, a few meters from the VWT line, to attach your lanyard. You obviously can't attach your lanyard to the line used by the VWT system. Remember that freediving is about having fun, not exceeding your max depth. ;-)
The system looks so good!!! How did you build it?
A lazy diver's dream! How does it work?
Nice system you got there!
Nice memories of a TOP week! Thanks for sharing
