In my work as a biology professor, I'm fortunate to be able to spend digital time with the species who share their home with me - in the forests of Ottawa Valley to the wildlife living in urban woodlots (like the Dairy Bush foxes) to the many and inspiring species of the forest of the Area de Conservacion Guanacaste (ACG) in Costa Rica. I try to share some of the stories these animals share with me here.

I think I figured it out. He must have just noticed that new "These premises are being recorded" sign you had to put up last week.

I wonder what he saw. It seems like the sound of a bird call got his attention. But he didn't get spooked until he looked up and saw something that SEEMED like a threat at first glance, but actually wasn't.

The dad is teaching the kits how to hunt. It’s natural behavior of fox dads.

Are these the new kits?
Yes! This is the family that left the den about a month ago for a new location. Now the young ones are old enough, that they are out and about training to be foxes! :-)

ahhh! Is there any way to tell if they are younger Mama's or older's?
Yes! Young mama has lost all the fur on her belly - she’s the one nursing! Older mama (the grandma in this case) didn’t have a litter this year. She’s been hard at work hunting and helping to keep the little ones in line! Extended families; so important!!
