I am constantly sad to remember that I can’t fly one. I woulda joined the air force or navy If they still had phantoms. I don’t care for modern planes… they all look the same, and there’s no real danger in flying them (unless it’s a Boeing) I’m combat anymore… no guts, no glory… just autopilot and auto aim. That’s why I am doing tanks instead if I decide to go into the military for whatever reason…

The TFX-F111 experiment failed due to the F111B having no thrust to land on carriers and the Revised version F14 taking over for the Navy and the F111 AArdvark being reduced to ground roles only because it was incapable of Dogfighting and the F15C using only the Air to Air capabilities due to the F111 being ground role only for the Air Force..
The problem with the phantoms wasn’t that they weren’t manuverable but the pilots in Vietnam wasn’t trained to maneuver the F4 due the BVR only Doctrine. However the WWII Dogfighting trained phantom pilots became ACEs in Vietnam And Dan Pedersen the founder of top gun and the other Top Gun phantom pilots took the kill ratio from 2:1 to 24:1 with the phantoms in Vietnam.
Thrust to weight ration isnt great but its top speed is ridiculous. Listed as mach 2.5, pilots stating its significantly faster. Carries 30,000 pounds of bombs.
My dad worked on those in the Nebraska Air National Guard when he was in college, he said that plane always has a special place in his heart. They were an absolute nightmare to do maintenance on and yanking engines.
Beyond gorgeous aircraft. One of the most beautiful aircraft ever built in my opinion. A monster in both payload output and speed. Outmatched in almost every capacity. A marvel of 60ies-70ies engineering and design.
Showed this to my Pop Pop. He loved it, he served in 1966 to 68 at Da Nang airbase with this bird as a part of the 366th tactical fighter command. I can confirm 1:13, that’s one of his pals
I was a structural technician in the IAF in B-check "Kurnass Shop". We had a large painted mural of SPOOK watching over us on the shop hanger. Some of the phantoms were ex-USAF, as emergency delivered after our heavy losses in 1973. Those ex-USAF phantoms were known as "karpada" (toads in Hebrew), but that's a different story. Phantoms served hard and long, seing lots of action. Some ex-USAF / ex-IAF are still serving till this day with the Greek Air Force, after getting heavy upgrades by the IAI. I salute and send a heart felt gratitude to your Pop, and his fellow servicemen in Vietnam.

Nice edit :) keep it up
The F-111 was scrapped for the F-14 and the F-14 was scrapped for the f-18
Well, do you mean USN servicr or USAF service
@@AirportAviation380 USN? Boy I'm talking bout America, the country that made the planes.
My gramps was a navy pilot/marksman he told me the radar for the F-4 was solid gold.
Name of the music in this ? Also great edit
Star Eater - Daniel Deluxe :)
The F-14, 15, 16, 18, 22, 35 all look like they were built at least partly for looks. The Phantom just looks like it was built to kill people.
War thunders when they get the f 4
Когда я первый раз увидел F-111, я в него влюбился! Очень красивый и мощный спмолёт❤

It should've been named "The Valkyrie" as its swept wing silhouette was one of the last things many people saw.
It dubbed a pig as an insult by the fight mafia. The pilots of the F-111 embraced it and chose to keep the name
