Concrete pour in the winter
Here is a slab we poured the other day. It turned out amazing. I love pouring in the winter so we can take our time. This will be our upcoming shop in Billings.
Now we go and pour our next job in Hollister.

Pole barn metal looks horrible

NOT AT MY JOB! I see pictures like these all over pole barn groups on social media. No one likes to look at some really jagged cut metal beside their window and door openings. I myself hate the look as well, so I have a trim made to cover those ugly cuts. yes, it had time and money, but looks amazing. #construction #barndominium #polebarn

Well, we just finished an airplane hanger in Kimberling City, MO. I love the blue metal siding and black metal roof. I like charcoal more, but I still love it, lol So this is an airplane hanger with a 40'x10' opening and a living quarters as well, so when they fly in, they'll have somewhere to stay as they visit. What a combo. The timber frame porch turned out amazing with 6x6 post and car sidi...

    Just pour slab first and it would be better to start with.

    • @kevingreenhaw8205
      @kevingreenhaw8205 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When you pour first, you then have to pour footing, and the structure isn't as strong as post-frame in the ground.

    • @katkilr7685
      @katkilr7685 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @kevingreenhaw8205 Yes you have to pour a footing, but we will have to disagree on strength.

    • @kevingreenhaw8205
      @kevingreenhaw8205 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@katkilr7685 Just being honest you are wrong, let's say you use those sturdi-wall brackets, those do not meet most engineering requirements for moment frame bending and even the company that sells them. They tell you this on their website in bold letters and states to contact engineers to engineer and adjust for this. Yes, they have good uplift but do not bend defection at all. Now let's move onto a stud-frame building compared to a in-ground post-frame. Stud-frame creates a hinge point just like the sturdi-wall brackets. Your bottom plate is bolted down every 6', studs nailed in the bottom that can be pulled out very easy as with the top plate. Now the connection of trusses to top plate do not match a post-frame truss to laminated column connection at all. Stud-frame shops don't have interior walls like a house that keeps the wide open span from moving. Do both styles work yes but they have there limits where a post-frame structure can do much taller and wider buildings.

    • @katkilr7685
      @katkilr7685 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @kevingreenhaw8205 Buddy I hate to tell you I was building those buildings/carports before you were even born, probably 20 yrs before. My Uncle and Dad were one of the biggest contractors with America Steel buildings '84 tell '10'ish I cut my teeth building them things. I have a degree in C.A.D. & construction management. I have 40 yrs experience, and I built houses for myself over 30 yrs . Now I am sure you believe that but it's just not true.

    • @greenhawbuildings344
      @greenhawbuildings344 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @katkilr7685 so I'm not talking about steel buildings at all. Post-frame or stud-frame So your telling me a post-frame structure built on concrete in a bracket is stronger than a post-frame column 4' in the ground when it comes to moment frame movements. Then your telling me a 2x6 stud frame building without sheeting only using wall girts with you tresses only being toe nailed and a small hurricane strap is stronger than a post-frame building in the ground with trusses that are bolted to the column. I would love to see your testing on this. Like I said stud-frame has no interior walls like a house to help with movement in the middle of them. 10' tall building not so bad but 16' yes there is some wind forces.

    • @kkarllwt
      @kkarllwt 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Rebar needs to be 2 inches from the air for corrosion protection. Now , on a 3 1/2 inch slab, this can't be done. So the compromise is to get it to the center of the slab. And hope for 1 3/8 or better distance from the outside of the slab.

    Great channel -new subscriber here. I really like the M channel. It has a different look and gets away from the typical pole barn look. Thanks

      Morton pole barn prices never came back down. They are basically stealing because they can. People keep playng the ludicrous profit margin to these companies because of the building boom post covid. Pioneer Pole barns out of PA is another over priced company. This Greenhaw guy uses thicker metal, larger girts and closer truss spacing than Pioneer and is about 1/3 less in price.

      We use rebar on every job but not this one, the customer was going to hire someone else but decided to have us do it and he didn't want the extra expense of rebar and labor so yeah. Now flatwork does not require rebar at all, because its non-structural. That's why you see huge commercial jobs without it so they can use the big laser screed machines.
