This video captures the first leg of a trip to Clearlake, CA. The flight to Clearlake is less than an hour so it wouldn't make sense to make a stop for gas, except that the prices at my home field are pretty high. So if I'm going somewhere that a landing at an airport with a great fuel price isn't out of the way I'll usually do it. In this video I fly in what I call "My Mooney mode" which is th...

Sherri's first IFR flight! Departing IFR in our Beechcraft S35 Bonanza. Arriving at the airport the ceilings were 100' overcast with 3/8 of a mile visibility. We waited for conditions to improve enough that we could shoot the GPS approach to return if we needed to. When the ceilings reached about 300' we boarded the plane to depart, and by the time we received our clearance and such the overcas...

    sadly i had a brother in law killed from this. He was thrown from his bike during the wobble. I don't know the full details but he had just started to pass a slower car. His buddies state that once he got in front of the other car his bike started shaking big time. Really... bad deal.

    I live to the left of the approach he used. Rio Vista (. 088) gets about 3 to 7 landings a day. On the weekend a few flying clubs may increase it to 10 landings a day as long as the wind stops blowing.

      Yeah, it’s been a while now. I did one not long ago but took it down right after posting. I now have a 260B Comanche as well as the Bonanza and made the last video in the Comanche. For some reason I was getting beat up for it over the switch. I might do a couple of videos in the near future comparing the two planes.

      Would be very interested on your take of the two aircraft. I read that COG is a problem on bonanza vs the cherokee 260b. also width of the cabin vs height of cabin. I am 6'5"

    • @bryanwood9485
      @bryanwood9485 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Fly High Each has it's areas where it shines over the other. The 260B Comanche carries more weight and has no CG challenges to deal with, flies higher and farther before needing to land for fuel. It's more stable and lighter on the controls. It is wider, but the seats tracks are close to the side bulkheads on both sides so it feels narrower. The Bonanza has more headroom, is smoother, and more comfortable. It is slightly faster which will save a minute or two on a 1 hour flight. It is easier to make consistent good landings, and the visibility out of the Bonanza is better. Of the two I much prefer to fly the Comanche though. It's a heck of a plane and a great bang for the buck.... Before having both though I'd have argued that the Bonanza was far superior. I believe it is in build quality, but it still loses out to the Comanche in usefulness and ability to fly a given mission and payload unimpeded or needing to compromise or be creative.

    It's not at all uncommon for motorcycles to produce some steering head shake, or wobble, especially when it is throttled down, when hands are off the bars. This usually is not any kind of problem, just put your hands back on the bars and it isn't even noticeable. The cause can be one or a combination of many things from fork oil, tweeked fork tubes, tire wear (cupped) loose steering head bearings, worn bearings, I suppose anything else, bent axle, loose axle, whatever. I've seen more serious wobbles on you tube from problems related to the back of the bike, and those can be dangerous. Worn or loose rear motor mounts (Harley, causing oscillation) rear swing arm bearings, or looseness misaligned wheels (not in line, check for equal chain adjusters) or whatever else.

    Thanks for the video. Two years ago I bought a 2006 Road king classic with only 5 K miles. I was introduced to vibration that I had not experienced on my 85 Super glide or 06 Soft tail. Then at 22 k miles I changed the front tire and wheel and got front end shake. I took the wheel and tire to Drews Cycle to get it checked out. The wheel was well within harley (trueness) specks but the whole tire and wheel assembly was a 1/4 oz off. (I had mounted and balanced the thing myself) I had the bearings checked and spun balanced to perfect then installed it. It still wobbles at about 40 mph. When I re installed the original old tire and wheel assembly it runs good. I run Dunlop 402 white walls on both the ST and the R K which makes it easy to see whats going on while the wheels are spinning down the road. On the soft tail they run concentric on both sides on the Road king the left side runs good but on the right side you can easily see the white side wall wobbling around. I called up dunlop and talked to Dave Johnson who said take it to the Harley dealer. They wanted $150 to check it out. Whats the point. I believe that even though a tire is balanced radially it can be off dynamically which would impart some kind of shake, exasperated by the front steering head bearings not being so tight that it would make the bike difficult to steer . Also at 75mph plus it starts getting progressively annoying.

    i have a 08 roadglide with stock rims and tires that had no problems. i changed the front rim to a 2017 enforcer brand new and from the first ride experience that same problem at 30 to 40 mph only. i truly believe its the tire thread cuts. i did nothing else but change the wheel back to stock and the problem was gone. i took the enforcer wheel tobe Balance check and intalled the beads reinstalled it and the problem is back. anyone else have thoughts about the Dunlop tires.

    I spent allot of time and money fixing handling issues on my 2012 street glide. I ended up using Ohlins suspension at both ends. Then I installed a stabilizing kit from Glide-Pro. I performed a alignment with some new Dunlop American Eliete tires and every handling issue vanished. I can not say enough good things about Jake at Glide Pro. Call Jake and he will get you right. If it wasn't for him I would be riding s BMW right now.

    Definitely front end issues. It's either your forks, bearings or low tire pressure/tire damage.

    • @brywd
      @brywd 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bike was new when I shot this video. The tire pressures were set properly and there was no noticable wear on them. The dealer had charged for prep, but I'm not sure anything was actually done. The problem, it turns out is common on these bikes and is fixed by clinching down on the head bearings. I'm not real happy with that being the fix, but it is.

    Regarding Rio Vista (O88), This is one of the worst cases of not learning from ones past or not WANTING to learn from the past. The NEW airport at Rio Vista was built because of the same NIMBY attitudes that seam to exist more today then ever before. Someone buys a house near an airport or other preexisting industrial activity because they are less expensive then complains because of the otherwise normal results of that activity such as airplanes flying over. The NEW airport is there because the OLD airport was closed due to this same attitude. (brywsd) even flew over it on approach. It can be seen off his right wing tip. I can only believe that the houses under the approach path are there only because of poor zoning. However that happened :) I believe the only way to stop this infestation is to require that all property deeds require a google earth image with locations of industrial activities on them and a waver that has to be signed indicating that the purchaser knows that they are nearby and cannot files any legal complaints about that preexisting activity. Yes It's been a great plane, so much so that I've only had to cancel one flight since owning it for a maintance issue. It failed runup one time when doing the mag checks when the points actually broke off in one of the mags. But thinking back she even had my back on that. Of all the times that this could have failed in was on the ground at the instant that I was checking the mags. Amazing when I think about it really. She's a good girl. LOL

    The reason it does this is because the the contact point is in front of the swivel point, kinda like a caster. The way you fix this is keep both hands on the bars.
