Awesome Fly in Event: Oroville Airport Day 2023
PPL student from Canada, I know there’s some differences with us in Canada however great content!
Thank you! Yes we do have a few different rules. How far along are you in your training?
@@Officialflymedia Hey brother! I actually have 68 tot with around 21 hours of PIC. I've done everything and just prepping for my checkride in February!
@ congrats! Remember to relax, and if you don’t know something, just say you don’t know.
Full of magic, leaving us in the wake! Hahah
Love the new podcast studio
Thank you for the support, I combined my favorite room in the house, with my favorite topic for conversation hahah.
I have to admit, I usually do a coastal route. Going under the Bravo, when I was flying out of Petaluma. When coming from the south, I'll do an upwind approach at HAF because I don't like to make sharp turns that close to the mountains.
That’s another good option, I was doing my best to follow the traffic ahead of me. Thanks for watching. Hope to see you at one of the upcoming fly-in brunch events. We have one in willows tomorrow 11-2pm. And next month at Ella’s in Watsonville on Feb 23rd 11-2.
so are you doing flight following?
Yes, 100% you got it. I always use flight following for safety, and in /under complex airspace I’d say it’s a must.
@@Officialflymedia i would to if i flew. HMB has a nice area for an airport, so does buchanan field.
@ half moon bay is really pretty. I was almost upset I haven’t been sooner.
wtf is up with these shoe people? FFS Morons.
What was your biggest struggle in flight training? For me without a doubt it was LANDINGS!
This video is great but seems a little more focused for maybe the written test. Have people found this to be really helpful to prepare for oral? And then if you did take the oral, did this video help a lot?
Dylan have you taken the checkride? This video is a mock-oral checkride not a video production, I simply recorded the session with my instructor. It was 2 days before I took and passed my checkride. There have been a few people who commented saying it was helpful, and useful before those checkride. This video is not prepared for the written. The written is simple, read maps, answer a few questions about airspace, and a few terms about aviation.
Hoping our stories inspire, encourage and motivate any existing or potential pilots. We’ve learned so much about the aviation world over the last couple years and I feel obligated to share my knowledge with anyone who can benefit.
Thank you Manny, it was awesome having you on! I look forward to flying with you soon. I couldn’t agree more, the intention of this channel is exactly that, inspire, entertain, and teach through sharing the experiences of myself and others in aviation.
That’s our Tio Manuel and he’s awesome!!!
He is awesome, I lol forward to flying with him soon!
Awesome 😎😎😎😎😎😎 video thanks so much really enjoyed the conversation.
Thanks so much for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed, please tune in for the next episode. I’m going to work really hard to crank out one episode every other week!
I would totally be interested in the "day of the check ride" video. Great stuff, man!
Thank you, I appreciate! I’ll start working on that video. To detail what to expect the day of, a binder and general walkthrough of the day.
@@Officialflymedia "day of the check ride" video would be amazing
I appreciate this video! My checkride is still probably a few months away, but videos like this are helping me to be ready when it comes!
I’m glad it provided value, and I hope you have a little bit more direction on areas you need to spend more time focusing. Thanks for watching. Tune into the podcast, lots of times and experiences shared from pilots with different levels of experience. New episode out tomorrow, and gonna release one every other week.
You responded that the altimeter must be required for IFR only and the examiner questioned you on this. Under FAR 91.411 paragraph one, it says within the preceding 24 calendar months, each static pressure system, EACH ALTIMETER INSTRUMENT, and each automatic pressure altitude reporting system. I would have argued that the altimeters are included for IFR requirements with VORs in the acronym as stated in the FARs, and not just the petot static systems. I think you were initially correct.
I believe that’s the section where we are talking about Aviates. As far as the inspection goes 24 months IFR only. But it is a required part for vfr flight just not a required inspection. Thank you for paying attention to the details. And always double checking! Great quality to have as a pilot!
@@Officialflymedia Thank you brother! Really enjoyed the video. Lots of good stuff here added to my notes for the checkride coming up!
@@patrickmyers7569 I’m glad you gained some value from the video. If you haven’t yet, make a binder. With a photo copy of all your documents, have your iacra password written down in there. Important pages form the POH (weight and balance, performance charts, V-speeds etc) make sure you have all your house and totals tabbed so you can easily find them.
Dope. Never been, ill go to the next one. I train out of KMYV, if you ever get a chance to come out this way again, do it.
Never been to Yuba, any good food close? If there is I’m in!
@Officialflymedia Have no idea, never been to anything around there, I gotta run back down to Sacramento before traffic 😆. But at KAUN, on the 25th it's a big career day event, with a bunch of pilots from a whole host of companies. I'll be there for sure. And for sure they got great food around Auburn. On property too.
@@Bangbang-gl4xo haha you are telling me to go somewhere you’ve never been? Haha as for airport day in oroville it’s happening in May this year. Joint the Bay Area pilots group on Facebook. Dm me on instagram same handle. Let’s connect. For sure interested in heading to that even on the 25th also.
@@Bangbang-gl4xo I’ve been to wings at auburn, and the golf course has great food. I made a video from my last trip there
@@Officialflymedia Cool deal. I subscribed. Yeah Wings is good, breakfast is superb. Local Heroes burger in Auburn is fantastic. Yeah, I fly/train at KMYV, not much more. Best food stop is the Chevron for me, and their spicy chicken salad, then back down Sacramento.
Rich Batchelder? Oof, congrats. Where in NorCal do you fly out of? I'm at KRHV.
Thank you, Rich was fine, people get too worked up. I had no issues whatsoever with him. I’m out of KCCR. We are doing a brunch fly-in on the 26th headed to willows on 1/26. We be a bunch of pilots!
@ I’m glad to hear Rich was fine, I’ve heard some things from buddies of mine that did their checkride with him, but everyone’s experience is different. My check ride is on the 7th of feb, once I’m done I’m gonna participate in all the fly ins I can!
@@muhammadfawzi1145 amazing, best of luck to you. I had no complaints about my checkride with Rich. He is fine with you using foreflight no paper ballot needed. Make sure you know your iacra password, so you can login. Also have a binder with all your documents. I even made a photo copy of the POH and pulled out important pages and had those in my binder (things I’d use for weight and balance, and performance. Know where to find things in the POH and the far/aim. Best of luck!
Thanks so much for this video! I appreciate how he tells you right or wrong right away, or tells you answers when you don't know them. Other videos leave me guessing whether the student was right or wrong. I have my checkride in two days with another guy named Richard! What are the chances lol. What plane are you referencing in this video (I could have easily missed it)?
Good luck on your checkride. I hope this video helped you feel more confident and ready. We were about 2 days from my checkride when we made this video. The aircraft was a 172P model. I’m glad you got value from this video!
So happy to find your channel! I'm a longtime sim flyer, and I live in the Bay too, so that's where I fly most. I've always wondered how it would actually be to fly in these skies.
You live in the bay and you a flight sim guy? That awesome Sam. Dm me on Instagram and we will get up in the sky! (I wanna dive a bit heavier into flight sim myself)
DM on IG I have a few pilot events coming up that I’m flying to. If you wanna hop in the plane with me and do it for real. I’m down
only thing i would add to the list is always aiming for the thousand-footers when they are available. Blue skies brotha'
Thank you, I appreciate it that’s a great idea. I have always aimed for the numbers. Id have to likely adjust my pitch and power setting, and be well above slope according to the papi lights.
@@Officialflymedia thousand footers are standard for commercial especially when you start flying on instruments and bigger faster planes. PAPIs are great for guidance to about 50-100ft. Great content, keep it up.
@ thank you, I’ll keep it at. I’ll also start aiming for the 1000 footers
Gotta love O22! The hill on the approach end of 17 can get spicy!! nice landing
Yes it’s an awesome airport, I want to land on the grass strip, and also need to make my way into town to experience the gold rush!
hey man, I rent out of bay area flight club out of klvk, I'd love to meet up with you and fly sometime if you're interested.
Hey definitely, I’m in! I’m gonna tag you in a post in a community post I made. We have a fly in brunch coming up on January 26th, going to Nancy’s at Willows airport 11am-2pm! I’m expecting probably 25 pilots from around the bay.
What’s the most beautiful approach you have flown? Comment below 👇🏾
Love the cool chart graphics. Half moon bay is such a beautiful airport that I ended up proposing to my wife there! Keep the great production and content we love it.
Thank you, I appreciate the support. I learned majority of the things I’ve learned flying came from you! I couldn’t agree more, half moon bay is beautiful. I still have shelter cove in my list, as well as Tahoe! I remember you proposing there and telling me about it! Your landing was butter hahah
Very cool. I've never done the Hayward transition. Usually via the Bay Tour or KOAK. Next time try KOAK - they will send you to the numbers of RWY 30, Mid Span and SQL. Very cool flight and makes for a great video! Blue skies!
Thank you, I’ll definitely try that next time. Are you coming to the fly in event on the 25th? We are flying into willows, and having a pilots brunch likely be 35 or so people
I see all the GOATs in the comments!

Thank you, it was a good landing but can always be better.
The year I became a pilot, completely changed my life!
Sheesh, I need a better mic. Sounds like I have a lisp
What mic are you using bro, also you can play with the audio after the fact to remove some of the harsh S sounds.
Would love to have online ground school with you at a fee,am Samuel from Ghana
Thank you, but I’m not an instructor, I am just a private pilot. I do highly recommend part time pilot ground school. This is the ground school I used for my private pilot training, and am using now for my Instrument ground school. parttimepilot.com/private-pilot-ifr-course-pricing/?ref=227
This ground lesson I did last week this guy was saying I need to recap more on the weather . But hopefully i can schedule another ground lesson with him this week and go from there. Then After that ill still do practice checkrides to make sure i know the answers to the questions then actually schedule the mock checkride. But its alot of information Tho i will tell you that for the weather
100% weather is a beast, symbols, abbreviations, icing, fog, clouds, thunderstorms, etc.
Thank you for sharing this experience. Checkride is in Feb. I definitely would’ve passed but definitely relieved some weak areas to brush up on.
You are welcome, thanks for tuning in. I’m glad it provided value! Best of luck on that checkride, you have enough time to really solidify the things you didn’t know.
Good information!!
Thank you for watching!
I wish and hope one day I get my PPL
It’s very fun and rewarding, you’ll be blessed with some incredible experiences.
Whats the Most fun plane🛩 you've ever flown in?
Spirit Airlines! Never know what youll see! 😅
@ hahahahaha that’s comedy!
I’ve been told recall is a bad term to use to explain AD’s but I guess it depends on the DPE
I agree 100% depends on the DPE!
recall is a good word for service bulletins
@ I think it is a great word to give context and understanding of what they are. My DPE however did not like that definition, so I continued to say it is a service bulletin created due to common failure or know issues with a specific part, or system. He deemed that acceptable. Where are you currently in your pilot journey!
@ passed my private check ride on the 10th. Thanks in part to this video! Gave me a confidence boost k owing I was able to answer most the questions shown here correctly :)
@ Congrats, that’s amazing! Im glad you went in confident and got the job done! That is very exciting! Where do you fly out of?
Thank you very much@
Thanks for watching!
What does he ask you at 7:53?? You responded with something like "it's a P model" couldn't make out question...
He asked if the Cessna 172 was an R model, and I responded it was a P model. There are subtle differences between models, power, flaps max gross etc.
@@Officialflymediagreat Thanks.. Have my check ride soon!!! I can't cram enough..
@ you are welcome, best of luck! Make sure you go over your POH, know where to find things. And calculate landing distances with tailwinds, and weight shift problems, also be able to draw the fuel system, vacuum system, and understand the electrical system. How many volts the battery is, and the alternator are. You’ll crush it!
Was your CFI referring to Rich out of KCCR?
Haha the one and only!
Very good 👍 future captain 👨✈️
Thank you, my CFI Gal will definitely be a future captain, I however don’t know if I’ll even end up getting my commercial. My purpose is to fly around for fun, but the idea of having a commercial and flying charter/ corporate sounds amazing.
Are you located in the charlotte area?
No, I’m in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Excellent video. I'm inspired and motivated!
Thank you! Where are you in the process?
My checkride is this Thursday, 12/5. Yikes!

Listening to this in the car. When I get home Imma write down all your questions and answers. Then imma keep listening to this on my commutes to work everyday until I can get every single question. This is GOLD

Damn, good advice!
Agreed
Great info on this video. BTW, I just saw virga and a video of how it looks in my gold seal ground school course, which makes me feel better about picking that ground school! Thanks!
