MPCNC plasma cutting 3mm steel
Plasma cutting flanges from 3mm plate, added steel kopex to the plasma to try reduce noise related electronics failure. No failure so far, maybe it helped?

    Curious how the machine has worked out for you, over time? Been too busy until now to get into bench top Cnc, but ready to take the plunge. mpcnc is a kit I am evaluating. Not sure how the plastics will do with use. Further, curious about tolerances, repeatability etc.

    • @trogdor40k
      @trogdor40k 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been fine for my needs, but I'm not looking for micron accuracy, +- 0.5mm is acceptable with the plasma. For what it cost I can't fault it, the plastics have held up surprisingly well, especially the burner bar brackets that I didn't think would stand a chance

    I love this but you mentioned you built it over a year. Do you still think its a good options or id there any changes you would make if doing it again?

    • @trogdor40k
      @trogdor40k 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Biggest change would be research and implement cable shielding. It's working not bad as is but failures are very annoying halfway through a cut. Any other changes just start getting expensive, such as better quality plasma, proper rails, etc. This one has shown me the benefits of a CNC plasma though and I will be building a decent one in the future

    It sounds like a lot of the guys doing CNC plasma are having issues with electrical interference. What are the most important concepts you've learned to protect against it?

    • @chrisnorth3458
      @chrisnorth3458 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I built a MPCNC plasma cutter last year and had no problems with interference, only had a problem with rigidity as I made it large enough to take full size steel sheets. ran it on an old 3d printer RAMPS board, shielded cables for the stepper motors and a plasma cutter with a pilot arc start triggered with a 12v dc relay

      Get a cut50” low frequency pilot arc non touch start plasma cutter. Since it’s low frequency no need to worry about shielding and interference . Dr.d flo has a great video on yt

    I have had an mpcnc for a couple years and have been thinking of converting it to cnc, I'm using the arduino ramps display setup. I have only used it with a router using gcode with the sd card.
