That was outstanding
Who's number seven, the scat jazzer in the white top?
She’s Charming right? Her name is “Maguerite_music” on tiktok
@@Too_Bassy Understatement of the year buddy 🙂! Anyone who can give Ella Fitzgerald a serious run for her money with her scatting, to say nothing of her tone and range, deserves serious interest from a major jazz label.
Hmmm. So contraltos can hit whistle notes now? Out of the whole video probably two or three were actually true contraltos.
Yes, there’s no reason a contralto couldn’t hit a whistle note. Obviously very few can, but there’s no physical reason they wouldn’t be able to. Any human with a healthy vocal tract can potentially hit whistle notes or flageolet notes.
@joel2421 most of them did not have the vocal timbre of a true alto and there was a distinct lack of low notes. I was being sarcastic and I am aware that anyone can access their whistle registry, but for contraltos, this tends to happen at a lower registry - even with a healthy vocal tract, most singers are lucky to have a range above 3 octaves. My vocal range is B2 to G5 (around 2.5 octaves) but my tessitura is around C#3 to C5. My point still stands that most of the singers in this video (based on the clips used) were mezzo-sopranos not "true" contraltos.
@@authorharleyreid4724 So you’re being both facetious and pedantic? That’s a winning combination for sure. Nobody else knows (or cares) what your definition of a “true contralto” is. This isn’t opera where the definition might require more explicit or specific boundaries. An argument can be made that a singer can be a contralto by timbre or by vocal range/tessitura or by both. I don’t really care, I think most arguments about boundaries like this are more arguments based on hierarchy/elitism than they are about the underlying info. The scientific truth is that there is no true boundary between “low mezzos” and “true contraltos” but rather a spectrum, because human bodies weren’t made in factories to exact specifications.
The first is an alto her voice is too bright to be a contralto contralto’s typically have a rich dark tone like the second girl
See, no disrespect, but I watched this thinking I might be a contra alto because I’m an extremely low female singer, but now I realize, yup, I really am a tenor
Number 2 is definitely a Contralto
D
Most of them are mezzosopranos
You’re saying number 2 is a mezzosoprano? I’m not sure about that for how rich those low notes are for a female
Beautiful
This is not contralto, except the lady no.6
Anit my baby
Contraltos need more love. A lot of the time women and girls are taught that a low voice is a bad voice. I think #7 is my fave, she has style for days!
Yeah I hate that double standard. Men on G2 are sexy as hell. Me on G2 is disturbing. I've had my gender questioned, my biology questioned, and my boobs questioned. It gets old
Wow you have amzing voice
omg am I a contralto
I’d marry the lead girl lol
I can't get over how cute that little girl was - enjoying her natural voice - and playing both parts!
Beautiful. I love a low voice. You might all enjoy opera trained Arpi Alto. Other good songs?
I'm surprised that you left off Diana Ankudinova from your video. Here's a link to her singing "Wicked Game" at 15 years old. She sings lower than all the females in this video. She's also polyphonic. th-cam.com/video/ojRs0Jc2N_c/w-d-xo.html
Some of them are mezzo like no 1. But they all sing beautifully. It was a good video
How could you tell they were Mezzo?
@@judylindow2739the top notes are too high and bright for a typical contra alto and the tone doesn't have the natural smoothness.
the first one isn't even a real contralto. just a low mezzo.
That’s what im saying her voice is too bright to be a contralto
I love hearing other contralto voices. I don't hear many people with my voice type very often (contralto) so this was really fun. I do however have a friend whos a countertenor, and he and I love switching to each others parts in choir just because we can. Our choir director gets so confused when we do. for the record, our director wont actually let him sing alto (his comfy area) and the director won't let me sing tenor (my comfy area) so we do it without permission and only when his part gets too low or mine too high
Some of these women are very far from a contralto.
Wow, I thought they were all contraltos Could you point them out?
@@Too_Bassy Number 1 (this is a soprano), 2 (she is audibly lowering the voice significantly, this isn't a contralto; by the time she gets to the F4 the real voice is revealed - a mezzo-soprano), 3 (another soprano - you can tell by the passaggio), 4 (this is a child - not sure why she's here), 5 (she's singing low but there is zero depth or weight in the voice), 7 (I know this singer, not a contralto), 8 (this is a mezzo-soprano; her story doesn't make much sense). I work in opera and study voice, there are a lot of contralto voices out there. Truly a lot. But these simply are not them. I suggest looking at the following singers - Carrie Smith, Nina Simone, Timi Yuro, Pearl Bailey, Hildegard Knef, Sophie Tucker. These are contaltos. From the first note of Carrie Smith's voice you'll hear a big difference. Voice types are to be judged off one's voice density (NATURAL voice weight - that is not one that is applied through approach or technique), tessitura, passaggi and lastly tone (it can be a big indicator but because of how malleable it is I put it lastly).
@@KajiVocals This is quite enlightening, Thank you!
Can you tell me how can I make sure i'm a contralto?
Te recomiendo Federica Moi
3,4,5 and 7.
I was a trained coloratura soprano until a surgeon's knife accidentally cut my super laryngeal nerve and now all I have is my deep contralto range. My voice was always my identity, it has been a grieving process. Now it's time to just put on my big girl panties and find my new groove as a contralto. I'm not quite as low as that one you identify as being quite possibly an actual bass (WILD!), but it's close and I am trying to re-extend my upper range, but most days it's a wash in my upper range. I sound a bit like Diana Krall now.
I love Diana Krall. I hate that that happened to you though. 😢
O.O That is almost exactly what happened to me. Went in the hospital as a mezzo soprano, came out a goddamn baritone
Omg I’m so sorry that happened to you, tbh if it’s an accident that’s messed up Ik ppl make mistakes but if it’s things like THIS it really can mess you up, I’m genuinely so sorry that you lost the voice you trained, I hope you find peace with your new beautiful voice of yours, I love deep voices, they have such a nice edge to them don’t be ashamed it’s wonderful! Please still share that gorgeous voice with your talent and spread it to the world!
I have mixed feelings about this. Not bad for an amateur, not good enough for pro. Being late and not knowing your whole part, makes it sound insecure. Also, in this recording, the low voice is overbearing the melody. I'm sure you can fix those things. You have great potential.
Hmm... A true contra-alto was extremely rare in these videos as well 🤔
Thank you.
6 is my fav
Hi everyone. I need help. How is my voice range, when I can sing G2 - H5? Thank you❤.
G2 to H5 is very impressive! It spans over three octaves, which is notable for any singer. Your covers notes from the low/mid end of a bass up to the high soprano territory. If you have control and resonance across this span, Then I must say that’s just wild🔥 However range isn’t the only thing that determines your voice type, things like Tone, Voice Texture and tessitura also plays a huge role
@@Too_BassyThank you. So how type voice I have? I'm 17 y.o.girl.
Amazing collection of talent, thank you! 👌
Podrian poner subtitulos en español??
Your missing Diana Ankudinova... Try her version of I cannot help falling in love or any of her tracks from when she was 14/15...yrs old and she can go crystal high..now shes all of 21. 😂 😎 And Try shirley Bassy doing Gold finger or Dimonds are forever.
Yeah I’m gonna need someone to find me 5 and 7 because YES
Oktavistka is a female bass from what i remember! I love both men and women voices and all the inbetween and while i dont thing much opera or choral music i find it strange that there are four well known men voice types, bass, baritone, tenor, countertenor. Countertenor being a bit less known. But most people only know soprano and mezzo soprano and usually dont see a difference.... Contraltos are becoming more known but i think maybe theres a reason that theyre rare and not just because the voice type itself is rare. like there are definetly more than two female voice types lmao. wonderful video though thanks for showing some unique voices !
6 is fine with 1
Much better❤
Impressive my voice cry watching this video
At the end you could have switched it up and go higher than him, it is not uncommon to do that for the lower registers, in musical writing
th-cam.com/video/SDQtyfvAoBs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_5bkegAHtJ1q9MHT Do you say im an contralto?
love this :)
You have a stunning voice😮 its beatifull🥲
Oh thanks! 🥂
Fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥
🫡
This is nice!!, if you could do it in a room that echoes a bit like the guy from the VID on the right it'll sound better!
You will be a singer keep it up❤❤
Hi there, thanks for adding me on this list 😊
So beautiful...
Thank you! 🥂
If you put in 0.25 speed, they get Diddy
Wow
Please do the entire song together! This is awesome!
I cannot stop listening to the woman singing can't help falling in love 🤩
You should look up Diana Ankudinova's cover of Can't Help Falling in Love.
@@cosmicmoonmilk Absolutly YES, the colors of her voice are unsurpassedly versatile and hypnotizing and when she sang "Can't help falling in love" Diana was only 18 years old. She is unique in the world. Another example “Blizzard”, or “Wicked game”, Diana was 15 years young!! ....and so forth......
