Star Wars Acolyte Episode 8 Review
Chris and Daniel cover the last episode of Star Wars, The Acolyte episode 8. We talk about the series as a whole, the bits we loved and the parts that confused us; although we do actually solve a mystery that confused us at first.

Pixies - "Where is My Mind" is the song in the last scene of the U.S. version of Fight Club.

Annoying tidbit for me regarding The Sixth Sense... I had someone spoil it for me before I saw it. Womp womp! This was like days after its release too, so I just didn't get to the theater quickly enough, in this case. Still a great movie, but I would have so much preferred going in knowing zippo.

American Beauty was best picture that year. Also... I have a friend who turned down a significant role in that movie... I still think she is crazy.

Chris... you said you like Space 4X game... have you played Space Empires 4X yet? Best game of its type. Yeah, it is just chits on a plain hex board, but the game is great. Clip the counter corners to make it look prettier... and for the counters to be more perfectly uniform. ;-)

Fortune & Glory is a fun one... I own it with all expansions too. I was disappointed that two planned expansions never ended up materializing. I remember them even being advertised and offered for pre-order. Board game vaporware! ;-) Also, this game did get a recent reprint in a smaller box. I think it is all basically the same, but I believe they got rid of the plastic coins.

I do the same with my games... I keep everything in the box... even if it is for modes I will never play.

I didn't really like many of the "big" movies that came out this year. My favorite movies are probably: The Thin Red Line SLC Punk Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas American History X Rushmore The Truman Show Half Baked Pleasantville Can't Hardly Wait Meet Joe Black Permanent Midnight And, Billy's Balloon, lol. Seriously, though, I do like Don Hertzfeldt.

Dark City... criminally underrated movie. Biggest problem is that the studio put in an explanation that SPOILS THE MOVIE in the first minute of the movie!!! If you recommend it to anyone, make sure they watch the Director's Cut that fixes that issue.

Dunno why... but Luca's painting reminded me of the winged dog creature from The Last Guardian video game.

Fun Doom trivia... the cacodemons were basically directly lifted from the cover of an old AD&D book. Look up the cover art from The Manual of the Planes from 1987 and you'll see what I mean. :-)

I'm the one weirdo who grew up playing Monopoly by the rules as written. I still remember playing Monopoly over someone's house and they introduced me to their house rules and I was baffled. lol I have since learned that they were WAY prevalent, but I somehow avoided even learning about them until I was probably like 14 or so. It is also maybe why I don't have a severe hatred of the game from really bad experiences with it when growing up; it isn't an endless game if you play it properly.

Gattaca was a great movie... very much gave me a golden age sci-fi novel feel. Not sure if it is obvious trivia or not, but the letters in the title name is a play on the four (DNA) nucleic acids: guanine, adenine, thymine, and cytosine. G-A-T-T-A-C-A

I am maybe rare in that one of my favorite mechanisms is pickup-and-delivery. I don't think that lands high with a lot of people... and there aren't a ton of games that do it, but I just have some sort of fondness for those games. I also love deck-builders, but I am a bit picky about them. heh

    • @TheFull42
      @TheFull42 หลายเดือนก่อน

I also like that mechanism a lot, but I think it's been done poorly by a lot of games that have given it a bad name.

    • @KabukiKid

@@TheFull42 That's very possible. Thankfully, I have generally had good results, so maybe I am biased because I haven't had many bad experiences with it. lol

Personally, I wish ALL bag-builder games had a plastic (or wood) chip option. I always upgrade my bits for games of that sort. I wish BGG would make GeekUp Bits for Blitzkrieg! and Coffee Roaster. Those games cry for upgraded bits!

A great year of movies for me. Some of my all-time faves. Seven, The Usual Suspects, 12 Monkeys, Desperado, The Basketball Diaries. Some of my favorite comedies- Empire Records, Billy Madison, Friday, Tommy Boy, Mallrats. Maybe a little cheesy, but I really like The Prophecy with Christopher Walken. There's a lot of fun scenes and lines in that movie.

Thank you for mentioning and liking our Safari Witness, and for your comprehensive and detailed explanation. It makes us feel that the time spent on gameplay and design is worthwhile. As you mentioned, in a 2-player game, the first player does indeed have a slight disadvantage, which is somewhat dependent on luck. Generally, as the number of players increases, this impact diminishes, and the experience with 4 to 5 players is more comfortable based on our experience~ P.S. Have you tried any of our other games at Origins? We would be happy to send you a sample.😊

I just remembered it... most underrated movie of 1995... Strange Days. Kathryn Bigelow directed... story by James Cameron... Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett, Tom Sizemore, and Juliette Lewis. Head-trip of a movie with some pretty solid production and visuals. It is the movie I bring up often and NOBODY has heard of it or saw it! lol It also has a title music track from Prong, so it gets extra points for that. ;-)

12 Monkeys is a mildly genius movie... love it. Then again, I tend to love anything Terry Gilliam does. Apollo 13 is EASILY my favorite movie of 1995, though. I think it is Ron Howard's best. That movie gets me stressed out EACH and EVERY time... despite seeing the movie a bunch of times and also already knowing the history. It has some sort of magic in it to do that to you every re-watch. :-) Another underrated movie from 1995 was Rob Roy... a better movie than Braveheart. To Die For is another underrated one... and gotta include Casino.... and Heat. Oh... and Doom Generation if you want a really oddball cult movie... and City of Lost Children if you want a surreal foreign film.

The camera angle on Osha mirrors the very first time we saw her, waking up on the ship suddenly. It's like she's being introduced again. A cool character thing. Bazil, the tracker, met Mae in the forest outside Kalnacca's house and he screamed to get the Jedis' attention. Vanessa"s saber has two modes.

This episode was just....terrible. This really is a mess. It's a shame because this is the first time that I've felt that I don't even care about STAR WARS anymore. I actually find ALL of these characters boring; and, I feel that they lack any compelling development. I feel that there was more character development in KOTOR (the video game). I have kept myself spoiler free; yet, I could already tell where this show is going and where each of these characters' endgame will be. After this episode, I kept shaking my head and wondering how in the world these writers and the director could have been hired and trusted with $180 Million (and how they made it feel like it is "low budget"). It just makes no sense to me. Yeah, the 21st Century divisive "woke" ideology thrust into this show is kind of cringe. But, it's the lack of quality that is surprising. The production values seem good; so, why does it feel so cheap? It's the writing and direction.

Yeah, I think Mae might have a redemption plot line. She had some sort of misunderstanding as to exactly what happened, and she actually didn't start the fire, or at least didn't mean to.
