    I recently bought an Elite Justo and am currently using the app, of course, the free version. While everything seems to be fine, I feel like the ERG mode function doesn't work? When I pedal at 80rpm, whether I tap on ERG mode on the iPad screen or not, nothing changes. I can still increase or decrease power depending on my cadence. So, where did I go wrong? Or is it that the ERG mode function doesn't work in the free version?

    Hi Alex, I had been doing high intensity workouts for years and had lost the enjoyment of cycling because I felt nauseous every time I had to exercise. After a long period of stoppage, not due to health reasons, I would like to start training again in a gentler way only and exclusively to keep fit and stay healthy...... I don't have to win the Tour, at most I would like to succeed to make the climb near my house in peace. I would like to use the TD app connected to my interactive trainer to perform workouts exclusively in Z2. Do you think it makes sense and is doable? I would like to use the option that adjusts the trainer based on heart rate or, better yet, with Jack's help, draw up a training program only in Z2. Can it be done? Thanks for your suggestions.

    • @TrainerDay

      Hello, I am more than happy to help. Our philosophy is very directly focused on solving exactly the problem you are discussing here. I have avoided big burn out like you but I have touched on it many times. My partner is world tour coach and he also thinks in very similar manner. I suggest you do a base period as long as you can. This can be this super pure base 2 only using what we call HR+ which controls your trainer based on heart rate. Start there, once you are feeling great and excited about cycling then you can transition to a Coach Jack plan. Our forum is the best place for these conversations so that more people benefit. I am also in this re-entry zone 2 base period myself right now. I am doing mostly 7 days a week and almost exlusively zone 1 / zone 2. If you are smart enough about it 7 days a week of 30 minutes and maybe 1 long day can be enough. I know one other smart guy in this stuff that feels 45 minutes is the minimum. But 3 days a week to 6 is probably best. I do take days off when I feel like it. I did do one hard ride with a fast friend last weekend and this week was a recovery week with a lot less riding. I love these discussions so happy to have them. Cycling can be a total blast when you learn to appreciate and get good and even fast at low intensity training.

      @@TrainerDay In the meantime, thank you for your response and your encouragement. The aspect you touched on is exactly what I was interested in. In practice, training in z2 based on heart rate and the connection to the interactive roller which adjusts the tension of the roller to bring you to the set heart rate (65% of the maximum heart rate). I just wanted to ask you if I can or should create a workout based on heart rate and if so, how should I do it? Or is it sufficient to connect the trainer to the app which switches automatically, once the app has recognized that a smart trainer has been connected, in HR+ mode and then with the + and - keys I slowly adjust the increase in roller tension to reach the right frequency.Thanks again for your support.

    • @TrainerDay
      @TrainerDay 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question. So I would say there is very mixed opinions on "what is zone 2." To start with I would say it is not Zone 2 :) Even though Dr Phil Maffetone is more running focused, I really believe he has the most experience in this field. He and his followers believe there almost is no lower limit, meaning you might get as much benefit from Zone 1 as zone 2 and for sure it is considered safer to be under your limit than over. Maffetone's tests and students have shown this over and over again. I witnessed this with myself running, that I kept the speed the same but let my HR keep dropping it started at 145 and eventually got to 100 for the same (slow) speed and my max HR was about 182. Maffetone also talks about targeting -10bpm to make sure you keep under your max. So I would say from -20 to -10 is likely safest for progress. I would say setting up a standardized test like the MAF test comparing HR to power in Z2 and watching progress is the sure way to determine if it is working for you.

But when it comes to calculate the TSS they use only FTP. So if during the training there were a lot of small efforts of 5 minutes, that would be completly ignored, despite the fact that in real life competiton that what happens.

    I've been on TrainerRoad for many years. I like the concept of TrainerDay, and I really like the connection to Training Peaks to get workouts directly into Zwift. The Coach Jack workouts, however, all seem to be very very similar, regardless of plan type or starting intensity chosen. Long endurance, tempo, and a handful of VO2/anaerobic workouts that all seem to comprise of short intervals in the first half of the workout, followed by endurance for the last half. Not a lot of variety. I rarely like being locked into a training plan so I cherry pick workouts.. but the non-Coach Jack workouts section is a mess. Personally, I think it's a mistake to have user workouts public. It's too difficult to find what I want, there's too much "noise" with user's workouts and duplicate workouts. It feels very much like, here's a box of random stuff, and now I have to sort through it myself. I suppose over time I could favorite all the workouts I liked and have my own little collection, or write my own… but at that point I'd rather stick with TrainerRoad and have predictable well-written workouts that have easy-to-follow progressions.

    • @TrainerDay
      @TrainerDay 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      TrainerRoad is great, the user experience is first class. While we appear similar we are very different in training philosophy, I would argue ours aligns closer to modern science. As you know TrainerRoad is very TSS focused. With Coach Jack we are very much interval count and duration focused. So because of secondary work the workouts might look similar, in realty they are not. In training plans we also believe in starting easy and ending moderately hard. Anyway, if you are happy with TR, use TR, I recommended, they are the best at what they do. TrainerDay is made by and for people that TR did not exactly meet our needs or are unwilling to pay that much.

    • @jmvdigital
      @jmvdigital 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TrainerDay I appreciate your response. I am giving a Coach Jack plan a shot right now. I kinda winged it with the plan type, starting intensity (1 felt way too easy, very subtle differences up to 10), and the "ride feel" setting. The starting intensity and ride feel are a little confusing. I do wish the documentation overall was a bit better. And I still stick by my original comment that I'd like to see the TrainerDay-created (aka Coach Jack) workouts be the only ones visible in the Workout Search; with user-contributed workouts optional. Better yet, take the Coach Jack algorithm and use it for a guided, on-demand, workout creator. Select your workout length, energy systems (endurance vs. VO2), interval length (not specifically, but like a slider almost from super short to super long), etc. That would be a really cool feature that I haven't seen anywhere else. And then have it so that Coach Jack can build on those custom workouts automatically through the weeks (either via intensity, interval length, or repetition, your choice)

    • @TrainerDay
      @TrainerDay 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jmvdigital You are right we need more documentation and better polishing like TR, to make things much clearer. Regarding workouts, if you use the popularity index then it gives you stuff that other people feel is valuable. For me a a workout on it's own does not really mean anything, it's fine just doing anything but curated workouts, I just don't see the value of. You obviously have to be a little more discerning but even in TR you could pick a workout that is too easy or one that is too hard. A single workout does not change your fitness level and randomly choosing ours or there, you will get a similar benefit. Now they tend to do a lot near sweet spot which makes it more likely anyone with enough will power could finish them but that does not make them better in my opinion. I think our user based choices are way better but obviously there is tons of junk in there. We try to use the TODAY feature to dynamically find interesting and reasonable workouts. It would be easier to chat on our forum or email if you want to better understand our thinking on workouts or Coach Jack.

      Sorry so slow. It's best for indoor cyclists wanting to follow performance based training.

    I'm using Xert and TrainerDay makes it very easy for my Xert workouts to go to Zwift. I do this exact procedure except in Xert I first export my workout in zwo format and add the workout to my TrainerDay workout calendar. Everything else is exactly as you say! Works like a charm and I love it.

    I am using trainerday on my android phone. When I start a workout and switch to Netflix, trainerday stays does not follow the workout any longer, it just stays on the same amount of watts. Can I configure trainerday to interact with my trainer (swift hub) when it's in the background

    When I select, for example, a Strength activity, it gives me the option for “free”, “30 minute blast”, “back to basics workout” and “maximise your upper body”. I never use the last 3, will this work to delete them from appearing every time I want to start a workout?

    What made me go with TrainerDay is 3 things: 1. It works and works well with Bluetooth trainer control 2. The reasonable price (the competitors are over priced) 3. It connects with TrainingPeaks

      I just used it a few days ago so it should. I have seen multiple people say it does not work and every time I try it does. You can contact me on the trainerday forum if you want. I can try to give you more help. If you try to follow it again and it does not work let me know and I will test and verify nothing changed in the last couple days.

      It's a perfect way to train from my perspective. I guess you use some recording device and possibly something to control ERG if you are using a smart trainer?

    • @gerrysecure5874
      @gerrysecure5874 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TrainerDay I used to have a simple fluid redistance trainer for years. Now I got a Kickr Snap with a Garmin to control and record. I use resistance mode for training, using gears and cadence to vary intensity. Erg mode I basically use only for programmed ramp tests as its too difficult to hit the step power precisely enough at higher intensities. The powermeter is connected to the snap by ANT to accurately control resistance in Erg mode thus avoiding rolling resistance issues. This setup allows to vary intensities quickly and avoid lot of programming. A cycling friend of mine uses Zwift. Each his preferred way. I still beat him any day with less tech involved 😉.

      @@gerrysecure5874 Oh cool, if that works for you, it's a fine solution. You can do the same using our app if you ever want a bigger screen and a few other features, even our free app will do that but if you like all your data in Garmin connect than your solution might be simplist. We have stuff like programmable slopes, which is like programmable resistance. Anyway, sounds like you have a fine solution and the price is right :)

    • @alexvanlaningham
      @alexvanlaningham 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just copy or cut all the rows below that row and paste it over the top. I actually think if you just leave a blank row it also works fine and will be automatically removed when you save.

      The easy way is just add it to your favorites and press refresh in the app. All the workouts are in the app as well if you search (click on list icon).
