Land Rover Discovery 2 & Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ take on wet Vancouver Island Trails
Hello everyone, enjoy watching two very closely built competitors take on some of the local trails in the Cowichan Valley. These video clips have been captured during the west coast fall season where we get a lot of rain. This trail is typically very easy and fun to navigate, but two optional obstacles caught us out now that everything is slick and wet. All in all, it was a fun day with some friendly competition. Both vehicles performed well, but it’s fair to say that the Jeep certainly could have aired down lower to best use those Wildpeaks! I also noticed that my rear left wheel seems to have a lazy brake calliper which noticeably affects the performance of the traction control system. I hope you enjoy watching, drop a comment below! #4x4 #landrover #landroverdiscovery #offroad #offroading

Stock Land Rover Discovery 2 takes on slippery climbs and deep water
มุมมอง 59Kปีที่แล้ว
Here is some long awaited action featuring my 2004 Land Rover Discovery Series II. The vehicle is mostly in stock form, minus the “Shadow” off road bumper. It’s sporting factory size Hankook winter tires at default pressures. Watch as I traverse some familiar trails, as well as some areas not shown previously, such as the water main service road (which has flooded after the snow melted, as well...
Introduction to my new 2004 Land Rover Discovery 2
มุมมอง 944ปีที่แล้ว
In the tail end of the summer, I crashed my black 2000 Discovery 2, and unfortunately it was deemed unrepairable. After insurance had settled, I was on the hunt for my next project. - meet Essie, a 2004 Land Rover Discovery Series II. It was originally equipped with the 4.6L V8, but the motor required major repairs. Thankfully, I had purchased back the wrecked 2000 D2 from the insurance company...
Stock Discovery 2 Off Road - How Good Are They From The Factory?
มุมมอง 35K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello viewers! It’s been a while since my last post, I will share some news soon about why. In the meantime, meet Goldie. A stock 2002 Discovery II V8. I put her to the test on some of the trails I’ve shown you previously with the black disco and Toyota 4Runners. I was pretty surprised what this vehicle is capable of with stock all season tires and no lift. The only modification is a simple bum...
Land Rover Discovery 2 and 5th Gen 4Runner TRD Pro take on Vancouver Island Trails.
มุมมอง 8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In this unusual trio, we take my 2000 Land Rover Discovery II 4.0L V8 and set out with a pair of 5th generation Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro’s. A test of old technology vs new. The Land Rover is lifted 2” and sits on 33” BFG mud terrains (285/65/R16) and has both SLS and ACE and is equipped with off road traction control and a center differential lock. The two Toyota’s are the off road TRD pro varian...
Land Rover Discovery 2 Muddy Trails
มุมมอง 10K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Exploring some of the trails in South Nanaimo in my 2000 Land Rover Discovery II, equipped with 33” mud terrain tires, an electronic centre diff lock and the factory 4ETC traction control system as well as a 2” lift. This particular trail is well shaded from the sun and much of the mud remains early in the summer. What makes this trail difficult is the many root systems combined with the muddy ...
Jeep Gladiator Versus Vancouver Island Trails
มุมมอง 11K2 ปีที่แล้ว
While the Land Rover is down for repairs (crank sensor has failed) I decided to head out as a passenger in a 2021 Jeep Gladiator Willys. This Jeep is completely stock, factory equipped with 33” Firestone Destination MT2’s and a limited slip rear differential. We head out on a several hour adventure through some moderate off road trails to test the capabilities. The driver intentionally drives s...
Land Rover Discovery 2 woodland exploration
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
After a several month down time, I’ve finally repaired the disco. The rear differential had exploded rendering it useless until I managed to find a good used parts vehicle. I swapped the entire rear axle assembly since the original housing was ruined. I also replaced the right rear quarter panel and the drivers door since they had been damaged from off road incidents. Enjoy!
Land Rover Discovery 2, testing the limitations of A.C.E and T.C
มุมมอง 51K2 ปีที่แล้ว
My 2000 Land Rover Discovery 2 is equipped with A.C.E, or Active Cornering Enhancement. A system which utilizes a culmination of electronic computers, sensors and two hydraulically pressured rams which stiffen or loosen tension on the front and rear sway bar assemblies. On road, this means very little body roll, confident cornering and stability. Off road, the system completely slackens the swa...
Land Rover Discovery 2 Gate bypass trail
มุมมอง 20K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Here is a short clip of my 2000 Land Rover Discovery Series II V8 tackling a short, moderate trail, a washed out bypass. The Land Rover has a 2” Terrafirma lift and 33” BFG KM3 mud terrain tires run at 15 PSI.
Land Rover Discovery 2 hard off-road driving, CDL and traction control
มุมมอง 21K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Here’s is the second video release of my 2000 Land Rover discovery series II, now lifted 2” using terrafirma front coil springs, terrafirma shocks on all corners, and rear air spring spacers with new air springs. The transfer case has been modified to include an electronic centre diff lock for trickier scenarios.
Land Rover Discovery 2 traction control test, light off road.
มุมมอง 3.2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I just bought this 2000 Land Rover Discovery series 2 and decided to take it out, to test it’s off road capability and traction control system. This looks like a small incline, but it features several sections of off camper ruts which test out the ACE system and articulation, as well as the functionality of the 4ETC traction control. This vehicle has not received the CDL modification. All diffe...
Tyre pressure is king. Let your tyres down 12psi bro
Is that a Boss Audio head unit? How do you like it?
@@ryanhood721 it is, it’s a BOSS BCPA10. It works pretty well, but you need to run a wire from the headlight dimmer switch power supply, as the factory illumination wire doesn’t supply enough voltage. The display will flicker between night and day mode if you don’t.
Hey how long have you been driving it with the ticking going on I'm curious to hear how many mile I have one that is ticking too....
@@johnsmith-oh2xo I drove it that way for a few months. It had 270,000 km on it. I didn’t keep this disco for long, as I found the green one I have now, but as far as I know, it’s still going!
Where did you get the front bumper?
It seemed to me that the soft Cherokee springs had an advantage.
Where can I get that front bumper? Looks awesome
Man, that was fun! What years need the cdl done to them?
I have a 98 Jeep grand cherokee 5.9 limited and love it. Lots of power and easy to work on with parts readily available.
I like the Grand Cherokee a lot. Both the ZJ and WJ. I even like the newest ones too, Wk2 and WL platforms. I drive the green Land Rover in the video, but I’ve also spent some time in the Jeep. It’s much more powerful than my old Land Rover 4.0L. The quadra drive II system works really well too.
If you really want to play outside with your toys you should really think about getting yourself a Toyota 4x4! At least then you know wherever you go you'll still be able to get back home again as well!!!
Both vehicles drove home without issues, and always have. A properly maintained Land Rover or Jeep will always get you home, just like any other vehicle if you aren't thrashing it. Iv'e watched many Toyotas break and have to be towed out of the bush with broken CV's.
Lockers before lifts
‘As slow as possible; as fast as necessary’. LR motto.
Does it not have the center differential lock
Look again. It was engaged when stuck.
Pretty impressive for stock.
Ланд ровер, рядом с джипом конечно не валялся
Super !
Where did you get the front bumper, it looks amazing. My plastic one is falling apart.
Less air in tires to climb it...
The video turned out great! Only the music at the beginning is very similar to the music from Tinto Brass films😅 thanks for the video, beautiful nature
Incredible!
They can do some incredible stuff!
Did you have to fix rubbing?
Thanks 💪
Great video man! I like these trails.
Thank you for watching. I enjoy watching your videos!
A lot of people shit on discoverys and defenders but never owned one. People who I know get one never maintain it no oil changes etc and drive it til it dies then complain saying Land Rover are crap. If that was the case they would no longer be getting built. My dad uncles all have discos and defenders and I've just bought a disco and I've already got a defender and never have any of us had issues. My dads love off Land Rover passed down to me except the freelander which I don't like even though it was Europe's best seller at one point. It's got to be either a discovery or Defender. Great content worth a sub my friend thanks for sharing 👍
Who is cheaper to run on fuel and who most comfortable on road
The Grand Cherokee 4.7L H.O V8 is definitely better on fuel as it is more powerful and the transmission has an additional gear. It is also a little more plush inside and the seating position is more relaxed than the upright discovery 2 seating.
I had a V8 and TD5 Disco 2. I wish I still had the V8, it was awesome.
@@nigelroberson8911 I enjoy the power of it in low range, but I wish I could have the td5 for fuel efficiency
@@VanIsleDisco For normal drive i now have a XC60 Volvo with a Defender 90 300 tdi for fun.
это какая страна?
Pure Porn for Disco 2 lovers. Great watch.
Non-factory front bumper
I didn’t think it was completely necessary to mention that I am referring to the driveline and suspension.
@@VanIsleDisco Driveline and suspension is less than 10% of a vehicle, simply calling it ‘Stock’ because of those components is bold.
Did you run the D2 in Low range and CDL?
Hello Tony, all off road obstacles had been performed in low range. The centre diff lock is used on and off depending on the obstacle.
I know I'm commenting very late on this video, but where did you get that rear bumper? It looks different to the factory bumper (I think)?!?! Or is it just some tape on the tail lights throwing me off?
Hello, it is in fact the factory plastic bumper. It’s just a bit battered from off road driving. Gorilla tape was used to hold it together!
@@VanIsleDisco So it was tape! Thats a shame I need a bumper, thanks the reply
Was pretty cool adding in clips of them both doing the tricky sections in the dry
Mucha presión en las ruedas 😂
That is all driver ability
Gorgeous footage of a gorgeous automobile
what are the brand of the steel bumpers on the rover?
Awsome video
How do you keep your coolant temps at 82 c? Mine always hovers around 92-94 in my Disco 2. Did you do something to the thermostat??
If it is stock, as in standard, why is the front high, and why the steel bumper. My standard 2004 TD5 Landmark is standard, but not that high or with that bumper. This is modified , not stock, unless your specs are different .Great video all the same.
Probably high on airbags
Beautiful demonstration of the ACE sway-bar disconnect. A significant feature of those vehicles.
На этой машине система ТРС не исправна!?
Video never does it justice on how steep trails are! Great Video
They certainly don’t look as steep on video, that’s for sure! Thanks for watching
Drive off the dealer's lot, across the mall parking lot and straight up the hill.
What's cool about Land Rovers is shown here. Still on the 18 inch Hurricane wheels with some modest A/T tires and pretty much just as it came off the showroom floor leaving the mall parking lot and going up the hill.
Land Rover had a video of an ACE equipped Disco doing high speed slaloms with a non-ACE equipped Range Rover on a trailer. It was one of the best demos of what it can do. You can have full sway bar disconnect or a sway bar the diameter of Arnold Schwarzenegger's thighs dependent upon your needs at the time.
Interesting to see the difference having ACE has on articulation, the same as disconnecting the sway bars would. I have basically the same setup - 2001 SE7 with 2 inch SLS lift. I connected the CDL by installing a lever from a D1.Getting close to 200k miles now.
I really enjoyed your video and I subscribed right after watching. I would have scribed for all the effort you put into it alone, never mind the excellent footage itself. I bought my 2001disco new. She has been a commitment. Anyone who's owned one for some time knows what I'm talking about. Yours is a beast compared to my everyday ride to my job sights. Thanks again for such excellent content. Oh Ya! Did I see you use "regular" fuel?
Thank you for watching and subscribing! I enjoy making these videos. I may not release new videos often, but when I do I always try to put a lot of effort in. I enjoy hearing you’ve had your disco since new. I certainly understand the “commitment” comment, as even in the 4 years I’ve had my three disco’s, they’ve all required my full attention. But nothing unusual considering the rough terrain I often drive through. Best of luck with your disco. Stay posted for the next one
At 3 minutes 30 seconds I'm surprised the front driver tire didnt spin more at first before TC kicking in. Were you left foot braking before it lifted?? I know it takes atleast a little spin. In this clip it acted better than modern Rover TC. How???! Hahaha
I would agree. Correctly done.
Have you looked at the prices on D2's lately? It's crazy, they used to be thought of as unreliable, maligned and dirt cheap. I considered it a well kept secret how good they actually are. Wish I had picked up an extra one now but I've still got my 2001 and doubt I'll ever let it go.
