    Jerry is one of those people who believe because they have enough money to buy something, that automatically makes them smart enough to run it. I’m surprised Jerry doesn’t pilot his private jet….he had enough money to buy it. One thing makes about as much sense as the other.

    The movie came out in 1979. Niland was long retired by then. He wasn’t in his 3rd year in the Nfl. Now if he’s talking about the book then he was still on the Cowboys when that came out.

      Was going to mention the same thing. His last year in the league was 1975 and his last year with the Cowboys was 1974. Lee Roy Jordan's last year was 1976. He seems to clearly be talking about the movie so maybe he is mixed up.

    Before my dad passed. He said one night he went to bed . And he fell asleep. Then he said he woke up and people were standing around his bed . The frist person he seen was J F K . then he said Turman was standing behind him . Then he stood up , walked around the back side of the bed and then he seen the most beautiful woman he ever seen .it was his mom. He went to her and she said to him " I waiting for " he said ok . Then he got back in bed covering up and people was still standing around and he fell back to sleep. I hope this brings a smile on people's faces. I was told my Dad loved Kennedy and he cried the day he died.

      Correct, and the movie came out in 1979 and Niland and Lee roy Jordan retired 3 years before the premiere. His timeline is way off.

      The backup QB was the Bible thumper in the movie. Dropped the snap for the PAT and lost the game. I’m assuming his religious lifestyle was based on Staubach. Not much else.

    Bob lilly said the same thing.... he said he was making 27,000 and other guys at the pro bowl..were making 80,000 lilly was the best in the business .... and schramm told him dont you know these guys are lying to you they just want to get you mad at us....lilly tells that story on americas game 71 cowboys

    This is great stuff.... never saw this interview.... Mr Niland ..a great player himself is wrong however about a couple of things... yes michael irvin was there in 88 last Landry year.... and landry would of Drafted aikman but was fired... so as far as most of the team being there for jimmy and jerry that's incorrect in fact check the rosters the team that won in 92 had very very few players left over from the landry era.. Jim .jeffcoat... Mark Tuinea ...bill bates kelvin martin nate newton... and maybe a few others but that is it..and Switzer was there four years and ya it was jimmys team but like barry said ..."people say i won with jimmys team but i coulda lost with jimmys team true enough

      @@gordonreed2736 The whole league was full of greats. Fearsome Foursome, Purple People Eaters, Doomsday, etc. Truax was a Ram too. I grew up a lot in the Cotton Bowl watching Cowboys. But saw the greats from everywhere. Rams were great. I loved Gabriel and the defense.

      @@gordonreed2736 You won't find an argument from me. I've always been a Staubach fan. Remember it was the Rams who sunk him in his final game. It was a great rivalry. But I never argued about who was best. I was always sorry George Allen never took them all the way. I lived in LA area when he left for the "Ramskins" in DC. What a great era.

      Perhaps the best sports movie ever made…definitely the best football movie. The NFL naturally hated it. Fred Biletnikoff was a technical advisor on the film. He said after the movie came out, he applied for several coaching jobs, but had been blackballed.

      Biletnikoff didn't play for the Cowboys and his style always worked for the Oakland Raiders; not a Tom Landry team. But I see the similarities between him and Elliot (the 1 bar face mask and great hands).

      From what I’ve read the character Joe Bob Priddy was supposedly based off of offensive tackle Ralph Neely.

      @@ronniebishop2496 If you google Ralph Neely and North Dallas Forty you’ll run across an old Washington Post article talking about the Jo Bob character. Neely is quoted as saying that certain aspects of Jo Bob are him. The article also mentions that others think that Jo Bob was based on Don Talbert and George Andrie. At any rate, if I had to venture a guess Jo Bob from the book and movie was likely a composite character along with a healthy dose of fiction.
