Soli Lent and Rapide (as part of Gift is Busking to Build his Own Drum)
Here is a video that Gift Iluyomade and I recorded last week during lunchtime at a Horton, a high school where I am a teacher, he is a student, and we co-facilitate Drum Club. From time to time, when we are the only ones there, we record ourselves playing as part of a fundraiser.
Over the last month or two, Gift and I have been busking in downtown Wolfville (a small town in Eastern Canada) from time to time to raise funds so that he can buy the materials to build his very own djembe.
It's a wonderful process! He has to drum to earn the money to buy the materials. Then, with my assistance, he will shape the bearing edge of a hand-carved hardwood shell, wrap the rings in cloth, do the rope work, soak, stretch, shaves the goatskin, then lets it dry for a week. Finally, he can sand it, tune it, and play the heck out of it!
If you're interested in donating, you may visit the following Facebook link: donate/184909646898386/184909960231688/
You can also join the Djugdjug Ensemble group: groups/149383845155874
Thanks for listening!

Kuku: Non-traditional break 2 (longer)
มุมมอง 1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Here is a non-traditional break we created for Kuku (Yes, I know. One of the players is committing some ugly flams!). It's one of two such breaks we use for our group called Djudjug Ensemble. Although the break is not traditional, it uses elements of the rhythm (ie, dundun and bell parts, djembe accompaniment and solos…). Because it starts with a standard call (i.e. universal break), it can hap...

Soli Lent: Non-traditional break (shortened)
มุมมอง 3393 ปีที่แล้ว
Here is a shortened version of a non-traditional break that we use for our drumming group called Djudjug Ensemble. We use the shortened versuion for beginner workshops. We’re based in a small town in the Annapolis Valley in Eastern Canada, and we don’t have the opportunity to accompany West African dancers as often as we would like, so we use these to add a bit of flavour to the rhythms. Althou...

It's Genius 👍👏
🎉bravo et merci pour tout le videos - c'est super 👍🙋♂️. Et Denadon comme ça - ça groove top
Fantastic ❤️ thankyou
Gracias. Saludos desde Argentina.
Djembe rhythms are incorrect ; at least the first rhythm is. You're playing the passport rhythm of Soko , Dununba and Mendiano (First Rhythm) Not familiar with the second rhythm.
It may be. Or there may be different arrangements of it. This is based on one of 2 versions included in Fara Tolno's Rhythm Reference Project.
Thank you!!
thanks!
Thank you🙌🏽
Really dig this video! Thanks for sharing.
🙏💚🙏
Merci beaucoup
Slaps and tones could be more clear and sharp, sounds a bit muddled would make a huge improvement on sound quality and recreational accuracy
Where's the swing?
You shout try yours, and bring it to TH-cam! 🎉🎉🎉Meaby that will be better than your coment. Respect thats what african masters teach us…
Thanks very much for this
Using this to practice my solos in 2023

Thank you Very VERY MUCHLY🌞😁🌼
These are excellent! Thanks!
What is the time signature for something like this?
It's in 4/4.
Very good channel for working, thanks a lot 👍😜
Thank you so much for these videos!!!!❤
how did you loop it?
I used a loop pedal. A very basic one called the Ditto Mic Looper, but you could use most loop pedals to do what I did. What I like about a mic-specific looper is that it has an XLR input.
what program are you using to make your practice track?
I am not using a program. I plugged a mic into a loop pedal. I used the Ditto Mic Looper, because it was basic, inexpensive, and the sound quality was good, but you could use most other loopers. I liked the mic looper because it has XLR (mic) inputs. When I use it for a class or live setting, I use an instrument mic (SM57) and pass it through a powered speaker. When I do a video, I use a condenser mic, pass it through the looper, then a small mixing board, and send it both to my headphones and to the recorder. In this case, I plugged the mixer directly into my phone with a trs to trrs adapter.
@@brunoallard3975 Thank you!
Nice! I will be taking advantage of the opportunity you've opened the door to. Nice & solid w/out to much going on but enough to give me inspiration
Wonderful! Having practice tracks to practice along to can sure motivate!
Gracias hermano 😊 hay quedó bien ensamblado el ritmo...
Thank you for this!! Amazing videos
Muchas gracias tus vídeos me son de gran ayuda!!😉
Gracias
what software/pedal do you use to loop your drums? I'd like to do the same for my Ewe drumming class
I don't use software to loop the drums; I use a Ditto Mic looper.
@@brunoallard3975 thank you
do you have a specific mic pickup that you use ?
You are off beat
Am I? When listening back, the break it-self sounds a little off. Rushed. Is that what you're talking about, or the specific parts?
Which dununba is this?
probably dunungbe...
Thanks for the recording. I know this melody as "denaben dundun", but it doesn't really matter that much ;) Big up!
Great track!
I love sorsonet thank u
Just recently I was introduced to an African drum nuance called a shofé. Now I'm interested in learning it. Do you have any videos to introduce the shofé?
Do you mean the same thing as echauffement? Echauffement is when you bring up the tempo and intensity, usually by playing all of the 16th notes (or triplet 8th notes/12th notes if it's in 12/8). You sync up with the rest of the drummers, then bring everyone up together. If so, no, I don't have a video about it.
its rather challed chauffé, because it comes from the french word 'echauffement' meaning to 'heat up something'. Its usually played in the end of a solo part to increase tempo for the next solo, or to go into a 'signal - break' or a 'signal - end' part
@@janosch7210 Thank you. I never heard of it up until recently so please excuse my improper spelling. This is the one thing that separates good drummers from great drummers. The group I'm with knows nothing about the chauffé. I'm just learning about it from my current drum teacher and even he does not know the correct spelling. I wish I could spend a month in village in West Africa studying with a master drummer learning how to "really" play the drum.
@@salimthebarefootsage8182 no worries. why not go there sometime? And for the meantime, there is a lot of stuff about djembe drumming on yt aswell. For ewxample: th-cam.com/video/EGkeIe03Bps/w-d-xo.html its not the best video about chauffé i could find, but it kind of gives you an idea
Wat did you put on repeat the second rhym? 🤔
The 2nd rhythm I played on the djembe goes bass, bass, slap, bass, bass, tone, tone, etc. Does that clarify what you were asking?
How do I do this, I have to know the equipments I need 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Uninspiring
awsome
Great idea man, love these tracks
yeaah mis manos están contentas tocando nuevamente mi Djembeee!!
