It's hard to see in the video just how deep these ruts were - there was a lot of underbody scraping (the trail was narrow so it was not always possible to avoid having the wheels in the ruts)... luckily it was just packed soil and not rocks.

A long trail up and down a small mountain peak turned out to be more difficult than expected. A stretch (500 meters or so in total, both up and down hill) with large rocks was a bit challenging even for the newly lifted S-Cross. Luckily an unsuspecting friend came along for the trip, so I had a spotter to get through the rockiest parts without having to get out of the car a hundred times.

    • @ZookOffRoad-l3k
      @ZookOffRoad-l3k 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      As far as I know the Freelander is also an AWD with no low range and no lockers. So, if you were going off-road then, you'll be ok with the S-Cross too. Try some easier trails first. It's a capable car but of course it's not a real off-roader; not having low range there will be terrain it won't be able to get through (at least not safely - you can get through almost anything if you don't mind damaging a car, of course). Ground clearance will be its limit before the lack or low range or lockers could. I lifted mine recently but was using it off-road for an entire year before the lift. The one thing one needs to do before anything else is put a steel engine and gearbox skid plate on (the factory plastic one is ok for dirt roads but not for rocks).

    • @ZookOffRoad-l3k
      @ZookOffRoad-l3k หลายเดือนก่อน

      It doesn't have hill descent control. However, on most AWD cars that do have it it is too fast (like 10 km/h), so not of much use on steep descents. I put it into manual 1st gear and use brakes (when descending steep hills off-road). I also use manual 1st to climb steep hills or any terrain with large rocks and other such obstacles.

      The Suzuki AWD system is pretty good. The limiting factor for this car is the ground clearance. I just installed a 4cm lift, and now it can go through more difficult terrain. (Like this, for example: www.wikiloc.com/offroading-trails/montenegro-kavac-kotor-mt-vrmac-donja-lastva-189305018 ...if the slope was very steep and had such large rocks, then it might not be able to climb through it; one needs 4L for such things... maybe the S-Cross could still do that with more throttle but the risk of damaging something would be high.) So, the Jimny can definitely do much more, but it doesn't drive as nicely (and fast) on roads. :)

      @ZookOffRoad-l3k 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To be honest, I don't remember which mode I used on that particular one. However, I usually use the following off-road: when climbing really steep hills (incl. if the ground is rocky), Sport + ESP Off; on hills that are less steep but have rocks or mud or similar, typically Lock (ESP On or Off depending on conditions); and in other (less challenging) terrain mostly Snow. I've found that climbing 30-40 degree slopes Sport + ESP Off works much better than Lock + ESP Off. (The car of course doesn't have low range, and neither does it have sufficient torque for those sort of climbs, but the Sport mode helps in such situations. There are limits...I doubt it would get up anything steeper than 40 degrees, especially if the soil is loose or rocky or has other obstacles - in such a situation even a 35 degree slope is already plenty difficult to climb). Also, for climbing (and of course also descending) steep hills I put it into manual 1st gear.
