Holman Hunt lived for a time with members of my family Martha and Thomas Combe . The chapel at Keble was built by Martha to house the Light of the World , the original painting , later copies of the painting , have a crescent moon on the lantern, this was after Hunt's visit to the Holy Land . The lantern was sold at auction for £46,000 plus 15% buyers premium at Bonham's. . The lantern was made by iron monger ,William Hacking of London , Holman Hunt gave the lantern to his patron Thomas Combe , after Combe's death the lantern was sold to JR Mallam , later sold for £10 guineas .
