The K-91 was a Soviet experimental tank project developed in the late 1940s and early 1950s as part of the Soviet Union's post-World War II efforts to innovate tank designs. It was designed by a team led by the renowned tank engineer Alexander Morozov, who also played a significant role in designing the famous T-34 and T-54 tanks. The K-91 was intended to be a high-mobility, heavily armed medium tank with unique design features, including a rear-mounted turret, which would reduce the tank’s silhouette and increase crew safety by keeping them further from direct fire.
The K-91 was proposed in several configurations, including a turretless variant with fixed guns and a turreted model, both of which were intended to maximize firepower and protection while minimizing the vehicle's profile. Despite the innovative design, the project faced significant technical challenges, such as complex mechanics and issues with stability and ergonomics. Ultimately, the K-91 never progressed beyond the prototype stage, as the Soviet military shifted its focus to more conventional tank designs that were simpler to produce and maintain, like the T-54/55 and T-62 series.
