This means that some athletes, despite being healthy and fit, may be classified as medically obese due to their higher muscle mass.
Doctors consider BMI as a basic tool for identifying potential health issues rather than a comprehensive measure of overall health. The study revealed a discrepancy between BMI and other important health indicators, with a significant number of healthy individuals falling outside the normal BMI range.
This raises concerns about the fairness of using BMI in workplace wellness programs, as it may disproportionately affect and penalize specific groups, such as those from certain ethnic backgrounds who may have lower body fat than others with the same BMI.
