Amateur Radio On The Road
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 13 พ.ย. 2020
I invite you on my adventures as I meet and interview other amateur radio operators who have taken their stations on the road!
During my travels, you may find me exploring remote trails, visiting historic sites, looking for geocaches, or simply playing on my ham radio while staying at a campground. As a Parks on the Air park activator, I love to stay in State Parks and places I can activate. I also own ClubGearonline.com and am the largest supplier of POTA merchandise. This channel documents my trips and adventures when I'm out traveling to hamfests and meeting other amateur radio operators.
Thanks for checking out my videos, and if you see something you like, leave a comment!! I'd love to hear from you!!

Harbor Freight Apache battery box for Amateur Radio. What would you change?
I thought this was the best battery box! It runs my radios, has a 30 ah battery and changes my cell phones, what more could I want? I was wrong! Since this video, I have built a different battery box with more features, and I like it even more. Make sure you subscribe to the channel to view my updated battery box video when it comes out.

My first impressions of Yuma Hamfest 2022, plus very loud planes and I passed my test!
มุมมอง 3102 ปีที่แล้ว
2022! This is the first year I have ever attended the Yuma Hamfest. These are my general impressions, some of the vendors present, and what I learned I didn't know about the hamfest. I got some one-on-one time with Gordon West and a special announcement about a test I passed!! Is the Yuma Hamfest worth attending? If you not going to Hamcation and you are closer to Yuma AZ, I would take the time...
Antenna build and review - The KM4ACK EFHW antenna kit is simple, compact and efficient
มุมมอง 7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I spent some time building and testing the End Fed Half Wave antenna. It's a kit by KM4ACK. It's a compact lightweight antenna that is perfect for portable ham radio operations. Overall I'm very happy with this long wire antenna and it works great with my ICOM 7300. Ham radio is a hobby that gives me another excuse to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. I enjoy working from remote areas or ac...
Building an air powered projectile launcher. This thing packs a punch!
มุมมอง 186K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Air Cannon? Potato gun? Rocker launcher? After several days of research I decided I wanted to build an air powered launcher so I could launch "throw bags" up over tree branches. A lot of inspiration came from guys who do tree work. This would allow me to deploy my ham radio antennas while operating portable or participating in Parks on the Air. In this video I walk you though what my goals were...
Operating HF, stationary mobile - Man I miss this truck. It's sad I did not know where Aruba was.

I used to travel for work and drove around in this big van with a 30ft lift on it. It was awesome because I could use it for setting up amateur radio antennas. Oh, how I miss being able to use that bucket truck. Now I participate in Parks on the Air and have a couple of different antennas I use. In this video you will see me stringing up a G4RV antenna and playing on HF.
Nice & simple 😊
You took off you're ppe before launching it??
Fun fact : there's a profanity filter.
You are costing yourself too much money. Remove the valve that you have and replace it with a one inch sprinkler valve and connect the sprinkler valve to a 20 volt battery with a contact switch. All you will need is 60 to 90 pounds of air. Should you like to be at a remote spot take a air pig with you. YOU ARE GOOD TO GO. Paul J
Love the honesty
Nice!
Check out the video called "How To Make PVC Pistons For Air Cannons" by NightHawkInLight much better than ball/butterfly valve etc.
Schrader valve instead of tire inflator valve. Not trying to be a smart ass. Cool air cannon
Hi , you should have more views and subscribers enjoy the channel. Was hard to find you with your channel name when you type it in the search.
They make a CO2 cartridge inflating kit that comes with a small psi gauge. You also could just drill another hole and out a cheap dial gauge or make the adapter to put a gauge with the valve.
I think your line is WAY too thick but a smaller line would go a country mile with that pressure. $0.02
Awesome
You are smart Your video is helpfull
Nice setup, but you really don't need that 12v display because lithium batteries give 13.8 volts continuously until they are depleted. I want to find a way to hook up one of those Powerex shunt included power meters that give me a true reading on the health of my battery (the same one you have).
It is wonderful to have 895 subscribers with just 7 videos! That means your videos are truly engaging! 73 de Jon, VU2JO
3:16 The equation you're looking for is T+E=R In this equation; T = Trial E = Error And their sum is R = Results Example; 2T+ 1E= positive R aka "the right direction" Simple really 😂
This is a great invention! It can save people shutting the cord on the opposite side of a river.
.
If you’re not a sissy you can use a propane bottle to charge the chamber.
Subbed bro
TH-cam recommended this to me after three years
Awesome video!
Dont reduce your flow just use the same size pipe for chamber/valve.
For safety, load the launcher before adding air pressure. Last thing you want is to have the gun go off accidentally while loading it. Also, use a stick to push the projectile down rather than tapping it on something to avoid any chance of cracking on the pipe.
Arborists use those "throwbags" as you also said. See SRT climbing on TH-cams. I like your air cannon-potato gun which I could suggest you charge using only air pressure from a compressed air cylinder charged from a gas or electric air compressor which would be a heck of a lot cheaper than using CO2 cartridges. But some use an airgun like that to shoot the weight into the trees or you can use the techniques they use to pitch the weight up by hand which takes practice.. I know... or even use a piece of PVC and attach rubber tubing or bands to pitch the weight up high like a slingshot which is very practical. The throw-line of course doesn't have to be expensive but fence alignment line or string is strong and at any length and cheap at Home Depot which is what you have looks like. One more thing, you can keep your line clean and off the ground if you use a 5 gal bucket or container like arborists (tree cutters) use but that may be overkill in your case but a bucket is perfect. Check this out. th-cam.com/video/vGoH9B9l9Xc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NzFrAp3h7dAzL4LS
Fishing rod with a heavy weight
I would attach a small diameter PVC pipe to the barrel underneath. Put a cap at both ends, the top end being removable. That would allow you to store a ramrod to help you load the bean bag. Also you could add a second tube that would allow you to store your CO2 canisters.
Good job, what a fun build.
2:01 Or schedule 80?
I would suggest a pressure gauge.
When that thing explodes you will be very sorry. Don't think it can't or won't happen. Flying shards of PVC hits you anywhere on your body and you're in trouble. Good Luck!
Soy boy
@@kainoaho4287 I see... soy boy means I'm not stupid (masculine) enough to do dangerous things. Got it.
If my chemistry is correct and to figure out pressure & volume: P1V1 =P2V2 If you know the pressure of the CO2 cartridge and its volume and you know the volume of the chamber, just algebraically solve for P2 to get your pressure. P1 =Pressure of cartridge, V1=Volume of cartridge, P2=Pressure of Chamber, V2=Volume of Chamber : There for (P1 x V1)/V2 = P2
Pressure in vessel 1 X volume of vessel 1 = pressure in vessel 2 X volume of vessel 2 is the equation you’re looking for.
thats pretty neat needed one of these years ago for my property but a dirty lawyer screwed us out of our mothers 20 year old deed.thanks for sharing
13 minutes of wasted time
This is very scary. Please check with the pipe manufacturer, your local building inspector, OSHA, or anyone in the know about using air pressure in PVC pipe. We don't need more silent keys! de K8XQ. Please watch this video about PVC and air pressure. th-cam.com/video/6ALvhbDGJfE/w-d-xo.html
I have made many of these a good way to hel p protect your self is to wrap the air chamber with duct tape or cloth tape. It will provide a small amount of protection.
Next time put a tarp on the ground and place the line on top of it to prevent the grass from slowing line down. Pretty cool. KB3NG
Maybe spring load the handle of the valve and make it a push-release trigger so it opens quicker. I know you do it pretty fast but a spring with the right stiffenes would do it even better and gain a bit more moment of blasting it. Obviously you are very good and will find a way to design it right.
Neat!
simple comment
could this be modified to make a candy launcher?
Nice pretty little launcher. Now watch how we're launching a 10 to 15 ounces weight in Chicago. th-cam.com/video/hIu1WbMukNo/w-d-xo.html
That was really nice Set up overall and I appreciate the video. You might want to provide links for those products in your description.
Looking forward to seeing your improved battery box.
glad nothing went south........great build sir
Hi there I love your design but I have a few questions. Firstly I'm in New Zealand so our PVC terminology might be slightly different than yours. I'm looking to make one of your designs to use it as a bait cannon. Now your design around your brass valve. Both the brass nipples are threaded both sides right? Then your Expanded Pvc bit that connects to the nipples are both Threaded female couplers? Was that bought like that or did you have to make that part? It's the 1.5 inch bit that is connected to the brass valve. Do you know what that is called? Then your 2/3ft air chamber slots into that bit which you then glue right? Plus the "barrel" bit on the other side also glued in? Many questions sorry.
Looks like Darby, Ind.
thats sick. I have a massively overpowered potato cannon and this shoots pretty simalarly. anyways, that. was. awesome.
Sooo you pressurized your tank before loading the projectile?😮😮😮😮.play stupid games, win stupid prizes
Pvc is nasty when it blows.pieces go through u really. Sunlight can degrade it, so stupid is as stupid does. After boom is too late.but u will remember this...
