The Scale Modelling Cafe with Jamie Haggo
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ก.พ. 2022
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to check out my channel. I have been making scale model for many years and have enjoyed watching TH-cam modelling content for a long time so I thought it may be fun to join in and create my own channel!
I prefer aeroplanes however I have done some military vehicles in the past and my aim is to do again here from time to time, maybe the odd ship too. However the focus will be on aeroplanes. What I enjoy most is weathering and therefore I choose subjects that allow me to indulge my passion. I do have a few favourites though, Cold War Soviet jets, WW2 fighters, derelict and abandoned subjects and even some Post Apocalyptic machines from my imagination.
Thank you again for the interest. It's a cliche but please Like and Subscribe and of course, don't forget to hit that notification bell to be notified when the new videos come out.

Breaking News: Airfix double surprise NEW TOOL announcement
Hi jamie, your spitfires look awesome, buddy. The IBG spitfires look fantastic. Just a question when you spray mrp paints what size needle and nozzle do you use, and what pressure is best.the reason I'm asking is I want to buy some mrp paints and use them for the first time. I hope you don't mind me asking. cheers Gary uk 🇬🇧
A great set of Spits, Jamie. The Burma scheme is particularly good on a Griffon engined Spit. Cheers.
Wow just look at those IBG spitfires! I was eagerly awaiting the 1/72 Eduard MK1 due to be released later this year but this is a really nice surprise and available a lot sooner we hope, after all we need an accurate MK1. I shall be getting some of both brands. Thanks for the video !
Keep those Spitfires coming Jamie, fantastic work as always, can't wait for the 24 or 32scale one
13:37 🤣 Nice update, Jamie - beautiful work as always. Show and tell on the Norseman please, but not at the expense of your mojo 😁
Hiya Jamie. Finished work and your update vid was up! The weekend has started! 😁 Both the Spits look absolutely stunning mate! Painted and weathered to perfection (of course! 👌) Just love the look of the Griffon front end with the nose cone and props. Saw them on Insta, but can't wait for the build vids! You build what you want to mate, please don't lose the mojo and passion cos that's what makes your channel so good! 3 builds for yourself (And lets be clear , Mustang, 109 and Norseman, oh yeah! Any or all, yes please!) and some pictures and a debrief for us mere mortals would be amazing! The IIC Russian Hurricane is one I'm looking forward to as I loved the 2 you did last year. Thankyou for sharing your work mate, really appreciate it, and as ever, look forward to seeing whatever you post. Take care and enjoy your modelling. 👍👊
Would love you to continue in the vein of doing two Spitfires a month. It really helps us all Spitfire fans to grasp the various marks and colours. Great work Jamie.
Hi Jamie! No Paki AF doesn't have any MiG-19-s, neither MiG-19S nor MiG-19P of any kind. They have Chinese J-6A (MiG-19S clone), J-6B (original Chinese twin seater with MiG-15UTI cockpit, which never existed in USSR due to short service time in Soviet VVS) and Q-5A to F (export version of A-5 - Chinese original attack plane based on MiG-19S airframe and engines but with new nose section and air intakes).
2 More fantastic Results Jamie. The LFD MkXIV,s look Amazing and flawlessly finished and Weathered as always). Both are Beautiful, but if I had to choose I think the High Back is my favourite. I have both the conversions in 1/32 for the Tamiya kit and plan to do these soon. Thanks for more stunning footage and reviews. Take care and look forward to catching you again soon :)
Hi Jamie I'm enjoying watching I've even gone in my stash and started on two spitfires in 1/48 a icm mk xvi and airfix mkxii inflight chasing a Tamiya doodlebug in truck driving all week so only got weekends so it's slow going but your videos keep me inspired to finish don't burn yourself out ok keep it fun thanks
The IBG Spits do look gorgeous, and I am glad to see them. That said, I would prefer them in 48th. Let's hope...
Beautiful, beautiful work on those Spitfires Jamie. Really looking forward to the project vid series. Photos rather than videos for some of your work just to give us an insight into what you're doing will be fine for us I'm sure - don't give yourself unnecessary pressure. So looking forward to those IBG early PR Spits.
Hi Jamie, i hope you’re well? Fair play to you taking a break, it’s so important, bin the editing just take some photos of the 109 etc, cheers Liam.
Got to love the Arma Spitty's box art absolutley beautiful.
Hi Jamie. Pakistan Air Force never operated the MiG 19PM. They had early and late model Chinese copies of the MiG-19. The early ones had Chinese ejection seats and the drag chute storage was at the bottom on the fuselage. The ejection seats were soon replaced by Martin Baker PKD Mk 10 and the drag chute got shifted to a tail mounted fairing. All PAF MiG 19’s could fire a Sidewinder. Also, the cockpit was painted standard grey not the Russian Blue. There is wide variety of camouflage finishes to choose from. I have seen a lot these aircraft flying around and on the flight line during many of my base visits. BTW fabulous work on the Spitfires.
Superb work mukka! Now, the difficult question is....bubbletop or razorback? 🤨🤔 I must admit that those bubbletops have really grown on me the last few years! Keep 'em builds and videos coming! 🍻
Awesome work Jamie. I noticed the exhaust staining with some subtle streaking, and wondered how you got that. Thanks for the explanation in the video, it really helps, I'm going to look at the SEAC reference photos a lot more closely and try and see what you were talking about. On my own projects I found that doing the exhausts with ATOM paints over a base colour paint that isn't ATOM allows you to remove the ATOM exhuast streak with Odorless Thinners. the process becomes a lot less stressful, and you can try multiple takes if you want. Just a suggestion of something you could try 👍👍Insiprational work as usual 👊 I will have to try the standard ammo + thinner to get the streaks
You need a full time editor ( not volunteering ) - Loving the look of your Spits glorious!!! ClearProp The Mig 19 looks ace. IBG - Not more bl**dy Spitfires😉 LFD - Go Big or Go Home as they say 1/24 all the way🤣
Thanks for being the pathfinder on these amazing LFD conversion kits, Jamie! Your new Griffon Spitfires look stellar!
I think 1/35 is a great scale because there are many more figures in that scale, making for a wider choice for dioramas.
Great episode starting my build the kit this weekend
Pass this on to whizz kids if you can Jamie. Thanks mate
The Sav’s are now famous 😎 thank you
🫡
As a man in the know Jamie. Can u recommend an end of ww2 aircraft kit with some good detail and maybe some add in extras for me to build for my local club theme competition in June this year. Really enjoying the channel, the reviews and the builds. It's really helping me get back into modelling and improving.
The Eduard Me 109K-4 would be ideal, there are loads of Brassie details you could use.
@thescalemodellingcafe thanks Jamie.
Thank you for the review and thanks for your insight between this conversion and Airfix for a Mk XIV. At your previous reply, the 1/48 sets were out of stock and I signed up to be notified when back in. On the day you posted the review, I received a note they were available. I raced to his site thinking with the review just released, they are going to be all sold out again and quickly. I got my order in, one set on the way. Thanks again and I’ll be looking forward to your build posts for reference for my build. Doug
Nice one Doug, I hope you enjoy the project
Brilliant review. Now you have convinced me to get one set.
Awesome!
Great review, itching to start on mine. I concur about the point about 3D printed parts fragility, I have recently completed a Detail & Wonder landing gear set for my GWH A10C, I made sure I had a clear head and was relaxed and took my time removing the fragile parts. I reckon it’ll be good training for the conversion! Can’t wait to see the build process .
Coming soon!
This LFD conversion does seem like a quality product, no arguments here, but it's also, in equal measure, coming across as a bit of a faff! What on earth is wrong with using Airfix's lovely PR XIX as a base? With care and attention, a fabulous XIVc/e can result. Sorry, but really a waste of money, frankly. 😒
Converting that into a XIVc will be difficult, a completely described wing with added gun bulges, short ailerons, new windscreen and canopy not to mention sorting out the overly deep panel lines, adding a load of detail and refinement plus a full rivet job. And the LFD conversion has been far from a faff as you'll see in the videos coming soon.
@thescalemodellingcafe Sorry, I have to disagree. With respect, Jamie, as an example, you've had to cut the doner kit nose area away and then integrate the new component. This has to be seamless. Perhaps not too difficult for a modeller such as yourself to do but maybe a little trickier for those with less experience. It still requires great care to do properly. The points you've made are reasonable, BUT, isn't that what modelling is all about? Fabricating items from scratch, making your own riveting, scribing panel lines yourself, instead of having everything done for you. I understand this set. I get it. It's just that it seems a lot of effort has to be put in by the modeller utilising components created by someone else's hard work instead of making do with parts that are essentially already present in the original kit and really challenging yourself. Missing features can easily be traced from the spares box. I have no doubts that your finished item will be a lovely job. I just feel it's possible, with care and planning, to get a really good Spitfire Mk XIVc from the Airfix PR XIX and Mk XIVe.
Hi Jamie. Brilliant review of this conversion. 👏 I can see why you love them so much! That Griffon nose looks fantastic! 👌 Looking very cool on Insta mate! Paintwork is wicked (as always!) Can't wait to see the build vids. Take care mate 👊
Cheers Bobby
you have a nice collection of Spitfire's going- would like to see them all side by side
I may well have to do that when I get back for Ramadan
Another brilliant review, thanks Jamie. The Laminar Flow conversions are 'Top Notch' and Mathieu really thinks the process through with the way they go together, just Brilliant :)
Thanks Andrew
Both the Spitfires are looking too good. The choice of schemes is great. The Kotare 109K will be a fantastic build. I got my hands on the Eduard P-40. Lovely kit.
Thanks mate, I'll get the overtures in due course
MIG 21 looks like its going to be a fab kit.
Fact
Thanks Jamie,a little bit for the girls
Wow, thanks mate
Hi Jamie, enjoyed the show as ever thank you. Re the Kotare 109, I don’t mind the lack of an engine, but wish they would include some more rivets like the Eduard kits have. Not sure if the 109 will have them but if following on from the Spit, maybe not. Won’t stop me buying it, but hope it has some, re a wash etc. Keep up the good work.
I'm so with you on the rivets
Kotare 💪🏻 That K4 is looking real good. 😍
Fact!
If it wasn’t for spitfire and 109 kits then there wouldn’t be an industry. Great video Jamie👍🍺
Well said
Yup!
I must admit the Spit' is not my favourite aircraft. But the Belgian job is stunning. 👍🥸🤘
Thanks Mark
Are these new Airfix models still made in India ?
I believe so
Great content as always Jamie and I love your honesty don't change ok
Thank Mark, I'll keep it real!
@ 👍
Hi Jamie. Great to see your news video, thanks .👌 Brought me out the doldrums today! I did see your post on Insta this morning and after seeing more of them both on here, I'm even more excited to see the builds now! 😁 Such a pleasure to see your work, as much as I enjoy building myself! The Kotare 109 looks a cracker, as I'm sure it will be. I was looking on scalemates the other day, checking out which Airfix release your Lynx was in. Was it Evelyn? The HMA-8? Not sure if its possible to get one now , the new version perhaps but not the decals. I do also like the AH-7 though but thought it might be nice to build something that I know somebody that flew it! (I say know! You know what i mean! 😂) Waffling on now sorry Jamie! 😒🤣 Thanks again for the update, enjoy getting the Spits finished and see you soon. Stay safe mate 👊 Bobby
If people want a 109 with an engine they are welcome to pick up a Trumpy K, "oh but it has shape issues" Hasegawa might do well to repop their late 109s at a good price to ride the wave.
True thing!
That new teaser clue screams Caproni CA 60 or another crazy prewar flying boat
Ooer!
Your updates are a must watch for many of us , Jamie. Congratulations, Kotare on the 109K. I agree with your review.
Thanks mate
The only reason I complain on the internet is well because there's no international wool sock appreciation week 🤪
🤓
Fingers crossed on a Mark 5 Jamie.
Hope so!
Thanks for the update Jamie, looking forward to the LFD spits - they look amazing. I have just pre-ordered Eduards 1/48 Royal Class P-40E, that thing looks awesome and can'y wait to get my hands on it. Take care and catch you again soon, Cheers :)
That does look lovely
Generally, I'm not a fan of clipped-wing Spits, but with the bigger-longer Griffon nose, I think they look better. Also, I do like the SEAC colours, and with the white stripes, it sets the schemes-off nicely. Found myself recently getting a couple of kits to sport those schemes at some point!
It does look cool!
Greta review! Bought one for my first foray back into modelling in 30-odd years! 208 sqn XVIII for me! No marks for originality but they're soo cool. That t-shirt tho. :-D
Enjoy the conversion Peter
As Groucho Marx said - you can leave in a huff or you can leave in a minute and a huff.
Good one!
