    I'm sure you know this, but, might modify your Story sticks to have points on each end when you do tapers, maybe just cut 45 degrees on both ends, so, you could flip them over for different scenarios. Not to throw off the measurement on the widths. In this scenario, both 45 tips would be on the outside of the door. In the door's case, using the flat story stick, it was only relevant on the Right side in the video, on the left side of the Right Story stick. Taper going up. Would be more evident on larger tapers though. Nice Mod to Inspire Woodcraft's version of the same.. The mods were definitely needed, and the story stick surely makes it able to repeat with accuracy.. Congrats.

      @bullfrogpondshop3179 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I normally use this technique for 90 deg cuts, but it occurred to me I could use it for this taper cut. Your suggestion is geometrically accurate, however I would be concerned the points would be difficult to align accurately and be prone to getting dinged. Since this taper was around 1 degree (or 89), the tiny error generated by the width of the story stick is nearly incalculable, and certainly well within the tolerances I need for this particular task. If I ever need to use this technique for larger angles, I will try your suggestion! Thanks for watching!

      @@bullfrogpondshop3179 My thoughts exactly. Not an issue for 1/8" over less than a 36" door, but something to consider on finer tolerance work. The limitations are removed as you stiffen and lengthen the board attached to the table edge. Just need the material support and longer stock cuts are surely possible. The basis of the sliding table on sliding table saws basically.. It could also be used when ripping full sheets of 8' plywood, to reduce the pressure on the table saw fence. The side of the table is not going to move for sure. And, 8' aluminum channel probably is not going to flex, or, could probably get a couple of clamps on it. Of course track saws do make cutting panels simpler. But, until you decide to get one. Damn things are not cheap.. Great video..

    Thank you for this add-on video. I also liked your first video. QUESTION: Where did you purchase that "over the saw blade" dust collection system? Did it come with the saw, or is it custom-made? Again, thanks for the videos.

      The blade card with integrated dust collection came with the saw. Not sure if you can see in the video, but it's attached to a mini shop vac that usually sits in my extension table. My main dust collection system is a full size shop vac, and that is connected to the cabinet of the saw. When both are running, the dust collection is excellent! Thanks for watching!

    I like your point about switching which side of the clamp has the nuts attached to it. What I've done with the 'face' of one of the clamps is use some jiffy weld to attach a piece of used sandpaper (Iikely either 60 or 80 grit I can't exactly recall) so that it grips the bar better. I had one incident previously where the bar came free from the clamp and chewed right through the bolt next to it and I was that I had tightened it as well as I could have. It's a Chinese knock-off model, so luckily the bolt was not high quality steel and the chain seemed to cut through it without noticing. I've inspected the chain a couple of times to determine if there was any damage and have located where a raker looks a little extra shiny but all of the teeth are sharp as they were prior to chewing through the bolt. Nice video, these definitely seem like worthwhile modifications

    • @bullfrogpondshop3179
      @bullfrogpondshop3179 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought about doing the same thing with sandpaper. First time using the mill, I checked the clamps every couple cuts and I had no slippage at all. If that becomes an issue, I'll definitely do the sandpaper as well. Cut straight!

    Update: I bought a better start capacitor that was more expensive but closer in quality to the OEM one. And I doubled the diameter of the driven sprocket to cut the torque needed in half. The motor and the capacitor are still getting very hot, even with the air cooling system running full blast AND no meat in the mixer (zero load). Alas, I have decided the garage door opener will not work for this project. I'm bummed because the built in slow speed and ease of reversing direction made this motor the perfect fit for this project...in theory. I just salvaged some parts from a treadmill with a large variable speed DC motor. I have decided to try that motor. Stay tuned for updates!

    Try running a regular sized electric motor through a truck torque converter to gear down the speed. Run it by itself before producing the sprockets to calculate the appropriate speed. Then attach appropriate sprockets and you’re ready to go with plenty of torque. Document via youtube video = win!

      Thanks! Dunno if you saw the discussion below, but the start capacitor blew up after about 2 minutes when I tried to actually mix some meat. I got a replacement cap and redesigned the driven sprocket to have double the teeth, which will reduce the speed of the mixer and the force needed to turn it by half. I had some issues with the 3D printer, so my first redesigned sprocket has been unusable. Will reprint sprocket with ABS in a few weeks and report back.
