SUMMITING MOUNT ST HELENS | Washington State | 8/26/24
When Mount St Helens erupted in 1980, it left a swath of destruction across the wilderness of Washington state. Today, you can view the aftermath of its epic eruption by hiking to the summit and gazing into its colorful, steaming crater. I climbed to the top of St Helens in August of 2024 with Annie & Eric, friends from school and locals to the area. The 8.5-mile loop to the summit required 4,655 feet of climbing through forests, boulder fields, and an ash field, followed by a precarious traverse of the volcano's crater rim. We started early to beat the heat and were rewarded with stunning, sweeping views across the Pacific Northwest that I'll never forget.
If you're interested in climbing Mount St Helens during peak season, be sure to reserve a permit at the link below:
www.recreation.gov/permits/4675309
Be sure to plan your summit of Mount St Helens ~1-2 months in advance, and come prepared with plenty of food and water, sturdy hiking boots, trekking poles, sunglasses, sun protection, a face covering, and gloves. Check the forecast and route conditions before embarking on your climb. If there is still snow on the route to the summit, bring microspikes to aid in navigating the snow. Though the route to the summit is nontechnical, come prepared with a high level of fitness. When near the crater rim, DO NOT APPROACH the edge, as cornices could collapse at any moment and are therefore dangerous to stand on. And - of course - bring a camera!

HIKING OLD RAG | Shenandoah National Park | 5/26/24
มุมมอง 963 หลายเดือนก่อน
Old Rag is cited by many as one of the best - and hardest - hikes in the eastern United States. The hike features over a mile of tricky scrambling across granite boulders that requires precise footwork, a level head, and lots of endurance. This 9.4-mile loop has become so popular that it requires a ticket to hike during peak season. Maria & I embarked on this hike over Memorial Day weekend in 2...
BACHELOR WEEKEND AT NEW RIVER GORGE | Climbing, Whitewater Rafting, Hiking | May 2023
มุมมอง 117ปีที่แล้ว
New River Gorge National Park & Preserve was the site of my one and only bachelor weekend in May of 2023. There, with 11 of my best friends, I hiked, climbed, and went whitewater rafting. We saw the best parts of the park and filled our three days in the park with loads of activities & antics that made for some great memories. New River Gorge resides in rural West Virginia. The park protects a ...
HIKING RIM TO RIVER TO RIM IN A DAY | Grand Canyon National Park | 4/18/23
มุมมอง 370ปีที่แล้ว
Hiking from the South Rim to the Colorado River and back in the Grand Canyon is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many. On April 18, 2023, I embarked on the 17-mile hike into the Grand Canyon on the South Kaibab Trail, returning to the rim via the Bright Angel Trail. My dad joined me for the beginning and end, exploring the rim while I hiked deeper into the canyon. It was one of the most epic...
BRYCE CANYON IN WINTER | Figure Eight Loop | Bryce Canyon National Park | 3/12/23
มุมมอง 109ปีที่แล้ว
Have you ever hiked a trail covered in several feet of snow? At Bryce Canyon National Park, the trails are buried in snow through most of the year. My fiancée, Maria, and I visited Bryce Canyon in March of 2023. We hiked the Figure Eight Loop, which combines the Navajo, Peekaboo, Queen's Garden, and Rim trails into one excellent 6.5-mile hike. We wore trail crampons over our hiking boots, makin...
ANGELS LANDING IN THE SNOW | Zion National Park | 3/13/23
มุมมอง 293ปีที่แล้ว
My fiancée, Maria, and I hiked to the top of Angels Landing in Zion National Park in March of 2023. We encountered several patches of ice and snow on the path and had left our trail crampons at our campsite, making the path much more treacherous and slippery than it should have been. However, we safely made it up and down the famous rock formation and had a great (and slightly scary) time on th...
LONGS PEAK SUMMIT | Keyhole Route | Rocky Mountain National Park | 9/2/22
มุมมอง 69ปีที่แล้ว
My best friend Shane and I summited Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park on September 2, 2022. It was my first fourteener. The 12 hours we spent on the trail - which included a detour to Chasm Lake - were some of the most incredible I'd ever experienced in a national park. Check out the highlights of our summit! Note: This is a re-upload of a previous video. Read more about this adventure...

I visited Channel Islands National Park with a few friends from September 14-16, 2022. There - on Santa Cruz Island - we had an amazing three days filled with kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, camping, stargazing, and wildlife spotting. It was an experience we will never forget... Channel Islands National Park contains 5 of California's 8 Channel Islands, which lie in the Pacific Ocean miles from t...
Glissading in Mount Rainier National Park
มุมมอง 1532 ปีที่แล้ว
Eli and I attempted to Summit Mount Rainier on June 3-4, 2022. We were turned around at Camp Muir by bad weather, and descended from the mountain in the late morning on June 4. The descent went much more smoothly, and the highlight was this ~300 foot slide down a glissade trail. Read more about the experience at paulintheparks.com

Great job on your first Rim2River!! One of my favorite runs. You picked an excellent time of the year to go. When you get a chance, head back and do a R2R from the North Rim.

Nicely done, my dude! My fear of heights would never let me do this 😅🤣 also, forgive my ignorance, but what did you need the permit for? 🤔

Never say never! It’s not as scary as the GoPro makes it look imo. You need a permit to hike onto the chains section of Angels Landing, they give out permits through a seasonal lottery as well as a day-before lottery. The permits help keep the crowds on Angels Landing a little thinner
