Walk around Canberra ACT Speedway Stadium - Fairburn Forrest - Looks closed down
มุมมอง 1575 ปีที่แล้ว
Took a ride out today to check out a few options for testing my bike and explored the ACT Speedway Stadium. The speedway is situated on Pialligo Avenue Fairbairn Canberra ACT. The location is between the Canberra Airport and Queanbeyan but to be honest looks pretty much abandoned given the state of it and the lack of updates on their website and socials. The track is in a sorry state.

Took me a while to find it and was heavily secured with cameras but finally made it to the old Tralee raceway or what's left of it. Tralee Speedway opened in 1970 and was a "D" shaped oval made of a dolomite and clay mix. Many types of cars raced at Tralee - super modifieds, Sprintcars, Speedcars, three quarter midgets (TQs, later to be named Formula 500s), stock cars, Solos, Sidecars, and prod...

Just picking up the banjolele for George Formby songs, thank you very much for this
Hi there. Thanks so much for teaching. I am so wanting to know how to tune my banjo ukulele to make it sound higher like George Formby did. Mine is tuned to G C E A. BUT, how can I tune it upward sound wise - to A D F# B ? I am wondering what the # means?? Thanks so much for any answer sir. My name is Bruce, I am in eastern Canada. Where are you?
Hello there, the # means ‘sharp’. So the Formby tuning being taught here requires ‘F sharp’ on the 2nd string. If you get yourself a chromatic tuner you will be able to tune into F# very easily. Or in other words, find F, and then tune up one semitone (one fret) to F sharp. Hope this helps
@@benfrost91 Thanks Benny, Have a great new year. Even with my elderly Alzheimer's disease days, thankfully Lord Jesus helps me play both the banjo uku and a piano. Yahoo!
@@canadacalling6892 you are very welcome, happy new years year to you too. I am sorry to hear about your health condition, I hope you have many happy years yet of playing the uke and piano!
This fantastic love this what make model is the uke please?
This is the best version of how to play this stroke. Others were confusing.
Nice
That was great!
Very enjoyable and easy to watch for tips. Thank you.
When I tune my a string to a b it just snaps and I don’t know why
What kind of Bangolele you got - this is class ?
Fantastic
Thank you .. any insight if you have a floating bridge .. where it needs to be ?
Loved the pace of this video! Thanks!
Great lesson , you make it look so easy but it isn’t . So must practice .
I don't have a banjolele, I'm trying this on my ukulele, and it's hard. Need a lot of practice
Thank you
Sounds good to me, but would be better if you smiled a bit & sang too👍
Hi love your videos, what ukulele banjo do you use please? Can you recommend me one to start with please?
👌
Thanks for this video. Where did you get the chords for the songs?
Hi John, I worked them out but plenty of GF tabs online at Ultimate Guitars app
He carried around 4 ukes with different tuning... I've figured out the following.... Key D A D F# B - When I'm Cleaning Windows, Chinese Laundry Blues, In My Little Snapshot Album Key C G C E A - Fanlight Fanny, Leaning on A Lamp Post, Little Stick of Blackpool Rock, Little Ukulele Key Eb Bb Eb G C - Lancashire Torreador, Aunty Maggie's Remedy
Awesome, thanks Warren. He 100% did have a few ukes.. Andy Eastwood has a great video where he reunited two of them as the backs were swapped by george years ago.
Many thanks dan , I’m getting there .
No problem Kath, I hope that helped. Happy strumming. :)
Hi dan , when I asked you a question about banjolele strings you said you use Aquila strings , are they just basic strings for ADF#B tuning. Can you advise please, many thanks.
Hi Kath, I just uploaded a quick tuning and string guide for you :)
Thanks dan I will pick it up next week , and have a go tuning myself
At the moment my banjo uke is at the music shop , for new strings to be fitted. But the technician said he cannot tune it to ADF#B he says the strings are snapping . I am very disappointed , because I wanted to learn George formby music
Not sure if you have used that shop a lot but I would get your Banjolele back ASAP, sounds like they are doing something very very wrong. It’s only tuning up one full note.
Hi dan I will try that , your banjolele sounds good , I am trying the split stroke . Not easy my banjolele is a tangle wood . Not a cheap one £200
Hi dan .i took my banjolele to the music shop to have new strings and I asked them to tune it to ADF#B so I get the George formby sound the technician said he tried but the strings kept snapping , it cannot be done. Very disappointed, Any ideas please.
Hi Kath, it really shouldn’t be snapping strings. What is your Banjolele? I use Aquila strings. At the start of this video I run through the tuning so you should be able to get a rough tune from that. It’s only 2 half steps up on each string so shouldn’t be snapping at all.
My advice would be tune your banjolele to GCEA and the go very slowly with a tuner on the G string, should only be half a turn on the peg then repeat for other strings. If you are turning for a while you are missing the 2 halftones and heading for snap town.
Hi dan , what are the best strings to use on my banjolele for ADF#B tuning.
Very sad to see it like this I used to frequent this track I it’s day as a spectator
100% bud...I can't image it will be there much longer.
Hi dan many thanks for your advice, I will do that.
Hello I have been playing my banjolele for five months , I am tuned GCEA I am learning when I am cleaning windows, but it sounds flat especially g major can you advise thanks
Hi Kath, try turning to A D F# B. That’s what I use and what George used most the time. Once I started using that tuning it just sang! Make sure your drum is nice and tight too. Let me know if you need any more advice as happy to help. Happy strumming! Dan
Very good , but you look very serious.
Kath Jordan Formby is serious business.
Very good
Hi i have just started . Learning the strokes . Please correct me if i am wrong the fan stroke , the thumb stroke and the split stroke are all triplets ? Is this correct?
Now time to jazz this track up woohoo let's go
🤘
In my opinion, this is the ONLY tutorial of this song on YT that gets the chords right!
Thanks Steveteb :)
Just enjoyed your excellent demo of the split stroke. Could you possibly explain how to combine it with the thumb drag. (Ray)👍
