First flight in my rebuilt Aerolite 103 since my crash seven months ago.
Oil seal install
มุมมอง 2.9K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
Putting this oil seal on the engine of a Piper 180. It was soaked in hot water first so it would stretch over the prop flange.
Stinson departure

Aerolite 103 crash
มุมมอง 31K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
I crashed my Aerolite 103 today. I’m very lucky to have not sustained any injuries. My engine lost power on takeoff and I stalled and went in. It happened so quickly I couldn’t react. My plane is destroyed but I’m alive. Maybe I can repair it.
so what was the engine problem , did you shut off fuel pump, you said you hit wrong switch, this was audible at crash site... ?
Nice
Welcome sir, I'm next your student Of tamilnadu, sir your stay for place, address phone number sending me sir
Watch the landing gear waggle on touch down will explain what those dangling cables were for, but not connected.
Topical stall
Wow, you had an enormous grass airfield in front of you to land on. All it didn't have was a runway marked on it. All you needed to do was pitch the nose down to retain airspeed, close the throttle and land. Glad you got away with it even if your aircraft didn't. This video demonstrates that a little (no?) knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Looked like a stall close to the ground.
Thank you so much for posting this video and I hope you are alright. I cannot believe anyone walked away from that... unbelievable and so incredibly lucky. Obviously, someone thinks the world is a better place with you in it! For future reference for anyone reading this, when your engine starts to mess with you and falter... you're landing, right now, no exception. Whatever is in front of you... is your runway.
I'm sorry about your accident and I hope you have a speedy recovery (if you haven't fully recovered already). That was pretty harsh and I'm sorry about your plane.
All the comments are on the money. More power required or nose down. Low airspeed close to ground will kill you.
Keeping the airspeed up and the aircraft straight when landing would have helped. Off airport landings usually end up as lose of control crashes. Any time you take off assume the worst! That way your are mentally ready for it.
Muy respetable primer vuelo, nervios de acero.
glad you are alive! could definetly hear the engine issue on the roll and right after rotation you had plenty of runway left over to set it down and maybe roll into the mud
were you testing the shocks?... I love this aero 103
Hey, not bad though.
It’s probably no comfort but posting this is a great thing to do if just one person learns from your mistake. It’s normal and it’s very human to make mistakes and as the pain fades the reflection begins. This is a great use for TH-cam. Thank you, I hope your injuries were slight and not permanent. 👍🇬🇧
Congratulations!!
Helmet
You landed!
Hopefully this guy doesn't kill himself. No seatbelt and dangerous landing even for a rookie pilot.
Я бы пристегнулся .
I know it’s easy after the event but things were going wrong way before you ran out of runway to land safely on. It’s called “pressonitis” and you paid the price. An accident that could have been avoided🤔
I had an ultralight instructor decades ago who forced me to practice engine out several times every flight. He would pull throttle to idle and tell me I lost my engine. I then had to figure out wind direction, obstructions, where to land etc. He would watch while I went through actions, then when we were maybe 100' above ground he would bring throttle back up. I quickly got into the habit of constantly scouting landing locations as I flew. Today, decades later, I constantly scout for landing locations as I fly. If there's no survivable landing spots within gliding distance I circle or S-turn while climbing until I have enough altitude to glide somewhere safe. I'm glad you're alive buddy.
That was a series of really dumb decisions🤦♂️
An old flight instructor told me many years ago when I was getting PPL, “if your engine starts to falter (like this did right at rotation), you owe the aircraft nothing. Find the closest place to land and get it on the ground. Don’t try to milk it and don’t hope it will work itself out.” Cut the power and land straight ahead if you had enough runway or a slight right turn and could have landed on the road.
Lovely T6
This is the stuff I miss when I lived real close to the Hazel Green Airport years ago when I was a kid. I literally lived like 2 miles away.
What model Stinson is this? Looks like an old Cessna.
Why!
You still should have been able to land with no problems. I don't understand why you tried to turn so low to the ground ? 🤔 your lucky dude.
This is the same plane he rebuilt after the previous owner spun it in?
I'm not a pilot, but watching this video and going by the sound of the engine, which did not seem to making full power (I assume it was not a throttle problem), it seems like you had enough warning and air speed that you could've landed without crashing -- ?
Wish I could learn to fly
Long, long ago, during the first eight-or-so years of my flying career - the years during which I was working as a flight instructor - I occasionally encountered people who told me of their interest in ultralights. Some - not all - of these folks were motivated by the fact that no pilot license was required. I always took the time to explain that, while no license was required, training should absolutely not be forgone. While this video might or might not illustrate what can happen when training is skipped (I have no idea whether the operator was trained) it certainly illustrates what happens when pilots fail in their first and most important task: Fly the airplane. Readers who have not undergone pilot training might not be aware of how much time instructors devote to preparing students for precisely the emergency depicted here. Every single lesson I gave contained at least some discussion of emergency landings, most lessons contained actual emergency landing practice. My most rewarding experience as a flight instructor came in a phone call from a pilot whom I had instructed for a tailwheel endorsement in the vintage airplane he had purchased. He told me that he'd suffered an engine failure and landed power-off on a small country road. He'd had to maneuver to avoid power lines and poles. He then told me that, during the training I'd given him, he'd thought that I was milking him, requiring more dual instruction time of him than was necessary. The purpose of his phone call was to tell me that the training I'd given him had saved his life. To those who might tell me that, unless I've been there, I just can't understand: In 36 years of flying I've experienced five full losses of engine power in single engine planes. One of these was in an ultralight and four were in an experimental LSA type. One of them occurred at night. Only one of these resulted in any damage - a bent axle when I had to put the ultralight down among hummocks in a marsh. In only one - the night event - did luck play a significant role. In all of these events what saved the day was keeping a cool head and flying the airplane all the way to a stop. The video above depicts what happens when panic sets in and the pilot forgets to fly. The crash was not caused by the power loss, rather, as the pilot states (to his credit) he stalled it in. He is indeed fortunate to be alive. So, if you are contemplating the purchase of an ultralight so that you can fly without a pilot license, I strongly encourage you to take dual instruction to the point of solo and to think about and practice engine failure procedures often.
rofl at the turnbuckle flappin in the breeze im sure that is supposed to be connected to something
Wow! All of that beautiful runway
Great video! I will fly someday!
get some flying lessons before the next flight
you stalled it didnt need to happen
It sounded like it bogged a little right before your takeoff roll very hard to watch Im glad you are ok.
SCAN FOR TRAFIC
Please let us know why it stalled, normally pilot error and I'm not being critical but save someone else. Hope everything goes well for you in the future
property next to a airport... the most dangerous thing on earth
"No license needed..." Great idea.
My first flight was a blast....I forgot to buckle my helmet....lol. you can watch it...search generac 44hp paraplane. Nice Job! I'm looking into an aerolite 103. How is it going?
Shit, I hope my first flight goes that good.
Big MISTAKE #1 WHERE IS YOUR SHOULDER HARNESS ?? Looks like its flapping in the wind You need some basic instruction on flying before you hurt yourself. I hope your flight training isn't from someone on the ground with a radio.
He did hurt himself.
@@greysheeumdo he though?
The title of the vid should be how to damage your new axle seal
Pull the axle, wtf are you guys doing
в первый раз ставите? уверенней, парни!
